Disneyland Survey Cast Members approached us for a survey - What did we miss out on?

I got asked to take a survey at Hollywood Studios on my 2008 WDW visit. If I recall, they wanted people who had eaten at a table service restaurant in the park that day (in my case, 50s Prime Time.) I don't recall there being any specific reward for it, but it only took about 10 minutes or so to complete.

I've participated in a number of surveys at the Park & haven't won anything. But then, all the surveys I've answered except for 2 of them have been the kind where the CM inputs the answers into a handheld device, rather than the surveys in the room on Main Street. I keep hoping that someday I'll win one of the gift cards, though

:faint: ...Excuse me while I pick myself up off of the floor after fainting at the notion of turning down a $200 Disney gift card!!!!:scared1:

I am all for quality family and friend time, and I applaud the folks who value it so much.

However - and maybe this is a little insight into me as a person - my friends will simply have to fend for themselves for 2 hours while I go do a survey and collect my $200 gift card!:rotfl2::rotfl2: (IF I were offered one, that is!) They would also have to fend for themselves for 2 hours if I got a $100 gift card, or a $50 gift card! You get the idea! Those Disney gift cards are like gold in the parks, and will go a long way towards making a dent in my Disney expenses.

I have heard of folks being offered $100 in cash or in gift cards at Disneyland Resort - some folks have accepted and collected the cash/gift cards, while others have turned it down. :faint:

I hear ya Sherry! I'm fortunate enough to spend at least 5 park days, so 2 hours out of my time is nothing...the rest of my party can go down to the Uva bar if they don't want to wait...lol...I'd love a survey with a gift card attached! Mine have only been 5 minute at the front gate or online once I get back home.

Same here! I always get the quickie surveys at the front gate or online - nothing that offers money or gift cards! I don't mind doing them because I do a lot of surveys anyway, but hopefully one day I will hit the jackpot.

Yep, I agree - my friends can go sit at Uva Bar too, or sit in the GCH lobby or eat somewhere (or whatever) if I ever get offered a gift card!:rotfl2: They won't miss me for a couple of hours!

I have some regret I didn't accept the invitation because of curiosity of what this "evaluation" would have been like. And I would have the same regret if it was $50, or no dollars. I love doing surveys and the like. I would have had fun, I'm sure. But, I would have been guilty missing my wife and son.

So if I pay 3K to take my family to DL for 5 days, then my vacation is costing me $37.50 an hour (not counting the time I spend sleeping.) No way I am giving up time to do a survey!!!!!

But if there were an offer of $200 for 2 hours, that more than covers the cost of those 2 hours! I'm with Sherry--the rest of my family can go nap or eat if i get an offer like that!

A few days ago, on a week day, my husband was stopped by a survey cast member as we were leaving California Adventure Park - she asked if he could take 25 min. or so of his time to fill out a survey, and he said he wasn't interested to do that. Me, being the curious one, asked her if he would have received a 'reward/prize' for committing that much of his time to the survey. She said she was not at liberty to say. I said that I was with him, it was my family, and that I was interested in completing the survey but she claimed that you have to be 'randomly selected' and if he didn't want to do that, then it was no go for me. She seemed to be smirking at me, like she had been irritated my spouse hadn't wanted to complete the survey, and she looked like the cat that ate the canary (looked like she figured it was a good prize that we lost out on.) So my question is, to those of you who filled out the customer survey....

WHAT, if anything, did you receive?

Thanks! :)

As we were walking away she called out, "Have a nice day." I retorted, "Not anymore, we won't." ;) It was just so irritating. I had filled out every single survey whenever I had been stopped, but this one time, no go for me.

I've re-read your post a few times and have to say your irritation was misdirected if you were irritated at the Cast Member, which is seems like you were since you were, I don't know the right word, snippy?, with her by saying, "Not anymore, we won't" upon her saying, "Have a nice day."

She asked your husband to do a survey. She did not ask your family or you. She asked your husband. He said, "No." She has to move on to the next randomly selected person. That's how the surveys work. Sort of like sweepstakes. They randomly select individuals (or sometimes families). You cannot self-volunteer, you have to be randomly selected. She was not just "claiming" that, that is the law. She's not just simply standing out there asking every person who comes by and giving out X. She has specific rules she has to follow.

If anything is being given away, it actually has to be that way legally. Additionally, your participation cannot legally be based on the promise of a reward. That is considered paying someone for their opinion, which legally is different than winning something randomly as a result of randomly being selected to participate. Finally, she may not have the knowledge of whether or not the participate will receive anything. That too could be randomized. So... if you were irritated with anyone, it should be with your husband. Not with the CM who has to follow a certain protocol for her job. (Yes, I ran sweepstakes for several years.)

She spends hours on end asking people to complete surveys. Your husband said no, she wishes you a good day, and your reply is, "Not anymore we won't." Really? All because she couldn't tell you IF your husband would have received something after he turned down the invitation to participate? Seems kind of harsh towards her, no?

Anytime the topic of in-park surveys surfaces it is always interesting to see the varying views on the element of "value." Some people view it as being paid for their time and a chance to make money. Others view it as losing money spent on their vacation by taking time out from their trip. Always fascinates me on the two sides of that coin. Interesting to me.

I would have taken the survey. If not, I'd be wondering what I missed out on just like the OP is. Knowing my luck it would have been a night in the Castle Suite or something.

Last week we were approached by a CM at the exit to the Alice ride. She asked me 4 questions and then asked if I would be willing to participate in a 10-15 minute survey in Fantasyland, on camera. She said me and my husband would each receive $20 for doing this. I wanted to do it, but DH didn't. Now I am kicking my self for not doing it...!

Kayla's Mom -

Wow! That is very interesting, indeed! Sure, it's not a whopping $100 or $200 payday, but I am actually shocked that Disney is starting to give out $20 (or $40) for 15-minute surveys! I wouldn't like being on camera - and why are they filming the sheer excitement of guests taking surveys?:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:- but I would probably do it if I were not in a rush somewhere.

Let me put it this way - if I am either by myself or with people, and I am able to actually stop to take a survey, I will do it, whether it pays or not. Usually it's just an issue of timing for me - if the survey takers try to catch me when my group of friends is racing towards the exit to leave, I can't stop to answer questions. But if I am by myself and I get stopped, I have no problem answering questions. I do surveys all the time, every day, anyway - and I should only be so lucky as to get a topic that is interesting to me, such as Disneyland Resort! Too often I get boring subjects to answer questions about - like banking! - so if I can be at my favorite place and answer questions about my favorite place, and those questions may actually somehow help shape what happens at DLR in the future, I am all for it!!

The money - $100, $200, $50, $20, etc. - is all just icing on the cake. I have never been so fortunate to get one of those paying surveys at DLR, but I will continue to answer questions for them anyway!:cool1:

In April of this year I was stopped by a CM and was asked if I would take a different kind of survey, they gave me a blackberry and asked me to record every purchase I made for the whole day. At the end of the day I called a # the CM gave me and we arranged a time to meet so I could give the blackberry back. I was never promised anything but when I returned the blackberry she gave me an envelope with $20 and some fast passes for the next day to any ride I wanted for up to 6 people. I have been approached several times before and I always do their small surveys but this was the first time I have ever been compensated for one!

Id do it again if they asked too!

The last several years we have been stopped and never received anything.

We did the entry survey at DCA and it consisted of "where do you live?". We said Canada, we were then asked what city/province and received a "thank you". In DL, I saw someone receive a sticker at the end of their survey. Normally I am eager to complete surveys, but with the limited time I spend in the park I am happy with a few answers and then on my way...even if $ would be involved.

On Sept 14th, Wednesday, we were at DCA Hollywood Backlot at around 10:30 AM, and we were asked if we wanted to participate in a 90 min experience thing. For legality issues, we can't give too much away, but if you ever are around DCA Hollywood Backlot at around 4 PM and you see random people running around with strange costumes or aluminum foil anywhere on their bodies, they're probably doing something similar to what we did. We got $15 meal vouchers each for doing the 90 min thing. We thought we would get more, but the experience itself was wonderful and well worth the time :)
