I am going to LA for a convention June 21-25 sans DH, DS, & DD. The convention is in Downtown LA but I am going to stay in Anahiem. I think it would better to go to LA in the mornings before the convention, then trying to get to downtown LA by myself after I have closed down DL. I will be in DL everyday I am there after 4:00 pm. I have only been to DL once (bad trip: went with church youth group and my "buddy" found a boy and ran off with him, leaving me all alone, crying, in a bathroom at DL :( )

Is there anything that I must not miss at DL and California Aventures? Is it bad to go by yourself, or do I need to find a friend to go with me?

Fun fun fun to purposely be by yourself there! My January quick trip linked in my signature was solo. :)

You don't need a buddy to have a great time at DL!!! :hyper:

The only time I've ever been there was by myself & I've been to WDW lots of times alone. It's nice not to have to worry about keeping up with someone else's pace or slowing yours down :rolleyes1 plus you can eat when and where you want, ride what you want when you want, decide if you think the line is too long and skip it or come back later, rest when you want, etc. Plus when it's obvious you're alone you get extra attention from cast members in restaurants, etc.

Go and have a great time!!!

I'm going alone June 26-28th. Can't wait. My family is going camping I'm going solo to DL. Yay me.

Yea!!! I am commando at Disneyworld with my family. (Maybe that's why my friend left me!) So maybe I can get my commando ways out of my system before the "official" trip in Sept to WDW. Where are good places to eat in DL?

The trip report in my signature was a solo trip(as most of my trips since 2006 have been). In short, you're free to do whatever you want to whenever you want to with nobody to say they don't want to do something or other.

Not to be missed in DCA(presuming your WDW trip takes place):

Aladdin Musical
Monsters, Inc.
Grizzly River Rapids
California Screamin'

Please note that Soarin' the ride is identical to Epcot's version, albeit DCA has a better queue and Tower of Terror is better in DHS, though still enjoyable at DCA.

Not to be missed in Disneyland(if I can't say the whole park):

POTC(twice as long as MK)
Space Mountain
Fantasyland(far better both in theme, detail and attractions than MK)
Splash Mountain(tells more of the story than MK)
Haunted Mansion
Walt Disney's Parade of Dreams(incredible float detail)
Remember Dreams Come True(best fireworks show ever)
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
Star Tours(I'm a huge Star Wars geek so I can't miss it :) )

DL as a SOLO? Fun, fun, fun! Different than with family certainly, but still very, very fun. You can do so many things - and they don't need to all be attractions, either. You don't have to worry about having a consensus for what to do, where to eat, when to take a break or hit the restroom - and nobody is there to watch what you eat (like when you want to have icre cream before dinner or something like that).

I just got back from a work related trip to So. Cal a couple of weeks ago and had 2 days SOLO at DL. Here's link to my trip report... it says part 2, and it is, but there's a link to part 1 in it if you're interested.

stopher1's SOLO DL trip report - Part 2 of 2

Go - have fun, get some magic for yourself!!! :cool1:

Wouldn't it be easier to stay in downtown LA?

Staying in Anaheim:
Driving to downtown LA in the morning - major hassle
Driving from downtown to Disneyland at 4:00pm - major hassle
Going from Disneyland to your hotel in Anaheim - easy

Staying in LA:
Going to the convention - easy
Driving from downtown to Disneyland at 4:00pm - major hassle
Driving from Disneyland to LA late at night - easy

I am going to stay at DL until MN and I do not want to go back to Downtown LA at 12:00 to 1:00am by myself. I do not plan on driving to the convention center. I am taking public transportation.

With encouragement from Dis'ers, I added a couple of extra days to an upcoming trip to LA, to go to DLR too! :goodvibes I've done some more reading since deciding and going solo is going to be a hoot for me, I think. :thumbsup2

I understand you not wanting to head back to LA so late at nite. I decided to stay in Anaheim for a few nites rather than commute, but if you have to go to LA everyday then that's what you gotta do - it'll still be worth it! :goodvibes

I checked out the public transit schedule since I'm going to take it to LA - hope you noticed how long it takes and build that into your schedule. If it was me, and I had to travel every day back & forth, I'd rent a car and stay in LA. There are some pretty good rates available cuz LA's a big market.

Have a fab trip!

cheers,
:flower3:

How funny! I am going to be getting there as a solo about the same time you are leaving! My park days are the 24th-26th. I've been solo several times and I love it!

Make sure you take advantage of the single rider lines at Splash Mt., Soarin', and Grizzly River Run! They move fast!!!!

Where are you staying?

I live just south of Atlanta.

Staying in Santa Ana (just a few miles from Orange County/John Wayne Airport).

Maybe we'll bump into each other on the 24th or 25th?

I wish I could just extend my trip but I have to get back to work the day after the convention. I am torn between getting a car and taking public trasportation. My options are 1) paying 13.00 to ride metrolink for one and a half hours one way or 2) renting a car and sitting in traffic for one and half hours, then paying 12.00 to park (+ gas, rental fee)

Depending on where you stay in Anaheim/Orange County area, many hotels offer a free shuttle to DL. Not sure if they would run one as late in the day as you are planning to go, but you might check into it.

Looking over these boards about DL and DCA has got me so excited!! I can not wait to hit the parks. I think I will just rent a car. A couple of the days of the conference, I do not have be there untill 11:15. Surely the 30 mile trip will be shorter than an hour and half during non-rush hour times. However, I have never been driving in LA - only Atlanta. I know in Atlanta during non rush hours you can get where you want to go fairly quick.

It truly is a magical place. Enjoy it! :woohoo: Take lots of pictures to capture some of the magic and bring home with you...
