I rang the Disneyland Resorts reservations section looking for a room from the 10th Jan 05 for several nights, we want to stay as a stop over on the way back from WDW, I was told that the rates not released yet, and may not be until later this year. Sounds strange to me.

How hard is it to book at DLR, or what is the best way to stay close to DL.

Just keep checking on Expedia and Travelocity. In a month or so, prices should become available then you can call directly again. It souldn't be too crowded Jan 5th and after.
The Disneyland resort is not like WDW as it is situated in the middle of the suburbs. Consequently there are loads of motels, Inns and hotels right next to it. See this link. http://www.beachcalifornia.com/dlmp.html
You can get a less expensive places to stay and be closer than two of the three Disney hotels though most of them are not as fun or nice as the Disney Hotels.

I believe Expedia has that first part of January available for booking right now. I got on that site the other day checking out dates around that time and was able to get info. Also in my experience, Expedia is always cheaper than going directly through Disney's website. Also, that is a great time to go. After all the whole world is broke after Christmas so most people don't think about travelling!

It's true that Expedia has a significant savings, but does anyone know if that price includes the tickets? Our tickets are a very large part of the cost on the Disney site.

I wasn't happy that the entire room rate would be required upon making the reservations. I supposed if you save enough, it's not so bad...

In general the prices at the Disneyland hotels via Expedia do not include tickets unless you specificaly click on some box or link to add them to the room.

In which case, this is what I found:

Disney: $1267.00 for 5 nights in low season, including my parkhoppers--a $486 value--and two adult character breakfasts. Trip insurance was included in the cost, $79.00. In all fairness, this price is lower because Disney will give one free night as part of the promotion they're doing at this time of year.

Expedia: $745 for 5 nights at $149 a night.

If you take the parkhoppers and the insurance out of the price, then Disney is the better deal for me at $702. I like having insurance, so I would be buying that anyway, though I hear that you can get it for less elsewhere.

Getawaytoday came up with $1237.00 which included my room and parkhoppers, but I don't know about trip insurance.

I love this list. I have waaay too many options...
