Disneyland Resort 2020: A Group Trip

Hey there fellow Disneylanders,

I know I am getting an EXTREME jump on things here... but I'll be organizing my first group trip for 2020 to see both Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge and also the supposed opening of the Marvel expansion that same year. Since it is a group trip and I know that can feel like herding cats at times... I just wanted to get a few basics down first and go from there as time trudges on.

First, I really would like to stay in a suite or some such thing at the Disneyland Hotel to really deliver the proper Disney experience to all the new-comers I will be travelling with and showing the ropes. I will be travelling with at least 6 guests (including myself) but potentially one or two more than that and we will be slicing the cost between us all to make it a little more tolerable in price to stay there for a full week or so. We are looking to most likely go towards the end of October to catch the end of Halloween season or potentially at the beginning of November to catch the beginning of the Christmas season (but before Thanksgiving). At what time would you suggest looking to booking hotel (aka about when do reservations open up for that time)? What type of room would you suggest? I'd LOVE to stay in the Big Thunder Suite, to be honest... but that's probably deathly priced, especially for a week... but perhaps a regular suite wouldn't be too bad in price. Would getting two rooms be a better idea??

That's the biggest concern I have at the moment is figuring out how the hotel situation is going to work. I want to get an idea of what I want to do now so I don't miss the boat when the time comes to book and I wind up with no availability to fulfill my request.

Also a quick side question here... I'm planning on doing the 50th at WDW in 2021 so I was thinking of getting the Premier Passport for both coasts as my ticket for DLR in 2020. Is this something that you'd believe to be worth it. The DLR trip will be around a week and a half and the WDW trip will be close to three weeks. Can you get this pass online or do you have to buy it in person? If that's the case, I doubt I could get any hotel discounts for DLR if I have to wait to get the AP. Any thoughts on this?

Oh... also... any thoughts on when Marvel may be slated to open? Would late October/early November be safe to plan the 2020 DLR trip?

Thanks everyone,
Stephen

The Big Thunder Suite looks awesome (but I also think the price is probably way out of most people's budget). I did read online that it has a capacity of 6 guests, so it might not work for you if you do end up adding some additional people.

Currently, the Premier Pass can only be purchased in person at either DLR or WDW. Overall, I do think it's worth getting the Premier Pass given how long you're planning on going to both resorts (you'd need an AP at both places to go for the amount of time you mention). The Premier Pass gives you the highest level benefits of both individual passes. Now the caveat is that all of this is based on the current prices and benefits; no one knows what things will be like over two years from now.

In terms of Marvel Land, all I've seen just says 2020 without any indication of when in the year. I'd say the later you go in the year, the better chance you have, but given that it's still a ways out, things could happen that might delay it.

You might want to consider a Villa at the Grand Californian. Check the DVC board here on DIS for more information about VGC and the logistics of renting points.
