Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

I am completely devastated (probably too strong of a word, but still...) at the Frozen show being cancelled. That was our favorite thing to do in California Adventure. We would go to the performance multiple times per trip. What a loss.

Edited to add: I think I'm most angry that it didn't have to come to this. Had this got taken seriously in the first place, we wouldn't be in the mess we as a country are in right now. People would still have their jobs, their livelihoods. I was staying pretty upbeat about everything, but this news along with news that some of our local business are being forced to close has just got me so down. I don't know when things will ever recover.

I'm bummed about Mickey & the Magical Map going away. The woman who played Tiana has an amazing voice. That show was fun. On the other hand, I am not upset over the Frozen musical going away. We saw it 3 times. Once was enough for us. However, I could have gone multiple times if it was the Aladdin show.

HOWEVER, with the amount of money that Disneyland spent on that huge expensive screen as the back drop/set for the Frozen show, I guarantee that they will find a way to reuse it on whatever show they replace it with in the Hyperion theater.

There WILL be shows again in both of those theaters. But there just won't be any shows in ANY part of DL or DCA when they reopen. The no show thing will be temporary. We just don't know how long "temporary" will be.

EVENTUALLY, parades, fireworks, Fantasmic, and World of Color will return. They won't **not** be running forever.

The first step is to just get DL open.

Nov 7-9 DVC still alive. Getting close to UY Mar cutoff. Also have 63 banked from Mar 2019 that's getting into no man's land as booked some Jan+feb dates with them but prefer to rebank to mid-end 2021 since VGC still out of commission. Really insane that we're approaching 8 months.

At DTD now. Nothing special to report. *Still* haven’t run into anyone I know. I asked a security CM about two other security CMs I know. She was only acquainted with one of them but at least said that she was well and still employed :-).

Just this one pic today (unless they happen to open the park unannounced;-).

Dvc points can only be banked once, so your banked March 2019 cannot be banked again and will have to be used by 2/28/2021. That is why I am trying so hard to keep re-booking my 26 banked 2018 December use year points that expire on 11/30. I have 12 more that expire 1/31 from my February 2019 use year that I have on a January reservation. Soonest I plan to travel to wdw is March so I would really love to use at wdw. The only way to push forward again is to move them to rci which will need to be done by 45 days before the end of your use year and will have to be used at a rci resort.

I doubt this changes anything. It's probably related to the upcoming holidays. But California updated their guidance for gatherings. Prior to yesterday, gatherings with others outside your home were technically prohibited...Yesterday they updated guidance for gathering with others outside of your household. Groups larger than 3 households have to meet in a common area (i.e. park, beach). This could be another argument for theme parks to reopen, as now the state is allowing you to be with others outside your home.

talk about unhelpful. I got busy yesterday so did not get a chance to call. And was out quite a bit today. Will try to call tomorrow or Monday.
UPDATE: I received a phone call from Member Services this morning! EXTREMELY HELPFUL!!!

The MS rep verified that I had received two (ambiguous) emails about the cancellation of ONE Oct reservation. She said the notion of sending emails on cancellation is entirely new to the Disney process and noted my suggestion to identify the reservation in the message. We discussed:
  • Email confirmation is GOOD; I'd like to receive an email confirmation of ANY cancellation: handled by MS during a phone call; initiated by me through the website; or Disney-initiated for unexpected reasons.
  • This email confirmation was confusing both due to the delayed timing (a week after the cancellation took place) and because of the lack of identifying information.
  • Possibility of re-opening the resort, specifically the DVC-side, prior to Park re-opening. The MS rep initiated this topic; she volunteered that Disney is exploring a California opening similar to that which took place at WDW (DVC resort opened before parks). Maybe??

I am guessing that I will get our modify/cancel email from WDTC on Thursday because our dates are October 25 - 31. Can anyone give me an idea of how long it has taken for a refund to show up on your credit card / gift cards after you request the refund? We paid primarily with gift cards so I am guessing that they would issue the amount back to each one of those used.

I am so torn on just trying to keep pushing back DL dates and just having to reschedule as the time comes or getting a refund and booking WDW. We were at WDW July 24-27 and we had a blast. It was HOT, even by local standards, and wearing a mask in that heat was tough, but the low crowds were so nice. I've been tossing around if we want to try and get there in November or December this year or just push it to January/February 2021. We've been there during the holidays so we won't be missing out if we don't see the parks decorated.

I don't know...for people who have done both DL / WDW, what do you suggest? We've never been to DL so this was going to be a special, first trip. I think that's why I'm having a hard time cancelling and getting a refund. I really still want to go to DL. I just don't know when they'll open up, and then you have the possibility of not being able to get park reservations depending on how those allotments go. We're at the Tropicana so we wouldn't get the guarantee of on-site resort guests.

Suggestions???

I would probably just cancel DL at this point. The amount of stress involved in trying to keep planning and replanning a trip, plus worries about the actual trip itself would just be too much for me. Especially for a first visit to DL, which you want to be special!

We've bumped all DVC reservations into Jan. Have expiring March banked points and booked them for Jan in hopes of them opening. Otherwise really stuck in the mud with those points with RCI cut off at Jan 15 and then close in WDW folk for rental or quick jump there for us (probably not)

From LAist:
Newsom said that state officials will be visiting with theme park representatives this week as they continue to work on those guidelines. The state is also sending out teams to places like Disney World to examine how they are working to safely reopen.

"We'll be visiting with some of the larger theme parks, continuing those conversations back and forth," Newsom said. "We continue in good faith to try to work to get where I know everybody wants to go, and that's to get people back to work, and also create more entertainment options. But we need to do so in a safe way, and we need to do so with a health-first frame, and we are going to continue that hard work. And a lot of that work will be advanced even further later this week, with some insight visits and some deeper collabration, even beyond some of the larger theme parks. But many of the smaller theme parks that want to maintain some distinction from those larger, well-known brands here in the state."

The state will be drawing distinctions between different types of theme parks, according to Newsom.
