Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

Also, I find it interesting how 2 years ago, City of Anaheim was all against Disney, and now that they have lost $100 million, they are trying to cozy up to Disney.

Money talks, and $100M absolutely screams. Time to jam through the Eastern Gateway project one more time, lol.

Look, I’m a healthcare professional with lots of family in the prime demographic for Covid injury, and even I think we are at the breaking point for all things being shut down. DL needs to reopen, it’s not even about us anymore. I won’t go, but I know someone else will...and that’s a CM’s rent payment. People are hurting, finances and marriages are strained. It just sucks.

how’s this for speculation...if we reopen DL and cases spike, I don’t think closing things AGAIN is in the books. someone mentioned it above, maybe DL wants to reopen now knowing public appetite isn’t there for another round of closures. It would just be open rebellion at that point.

in any inevitable surge, an open Disney is easier to keep open.

I agree with this. I think once the theme park genie is out of the bottle, there will be no way to close again; that is why they are taking so long to hammer out the guidelines. I wonder what kind of contingencies they have in place if there is an outbreak. Was that discussed in yesterday's press conference?

Yes. They reiterated that a county must have the metrics for a consecutive 14 days to either move forward OR backwards in terms of the color categories.

TBH, it would probably be quite difficult to meet worsening metrics for 14 days straight. It would require a MASSIVE outbreak, the likes of which we haven't seen yet in CA. (In terms of having a giant spike in cases occur in such a small window of time). I don't think that is likely to happen in OC, in particular. Our numbers have been on a steady decline for awhile and even when they were higher, it was a very gradual increase.

That seems to be protocol for a county as a whole. What I'm looking for is the steps Disney has or will have in place if employees test positive. Are there cleaning procedures? What is the time elapse allowed between positive result and last time in the workplace? How/will they inform close contact coworkers? Will these procedures extend to hotel guests? To resort guests?

Those are the boring things I'm looking for.🙂 I think they had a situation early on when DTD re-opened. They could have used lessons learned then as a template to show the state they recognize the risk of an outbreak and the procedures they have to deal with it.

Looks like Newsome has press conference slated for 10:40 about a new carbon initiative. Probably no chance he slips anything about Disneyland in there.

Press conference is right in front of the old DCA CALIFORNIA letters?!
Are you sure those are the exact letters or a similar type at like a fair ground? I'm not familiar with the fate of the letters🤣🤣🤣 if they are that would be quite the coincidence
