Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

I've been seeing articles about spikes, but then things keep opening lol....this whole pandemic thing is confusing.
That’s why is would have to be a dramatic spike. Threatening hospitals to fill to capacity type spike.

I’ll be honest that everything opening so quickly scares me.

I literally got the DL reopening news the same time as my friend told me she tested positive for COVID (she’s fine, and she’s a front-line ER worker, in case you were curious).

Talk about mixed emotions, hahah

So what do you all think will be happening by October?

Since all my summer plans went out the window and school will start for us in July, we won't be able to go until fall break.

I simply canNOT bring myself to even make a speculative hotel reservation on-property for the money Disney wants. I know we are all thinking that admission could be tied to Resort hotel stays in the early days of reopening, but what's your opinion on whether the same will still hold true by October? I'd love to hear your thoughts. If it matters, I have an AP and my family will have PHs that are already purchased and loaded into my DL app.

I predict much higher capacity, but not fully at 100% either.

Just to buy time, I would personally simultaneously book an off park hotel AND on park just to see how things shake out.

if you’re for sure not wanting to stay on park, just speculate with your preferred off site hotel and tuck the cancellation deadline into your calendar.

You should know at least 5-6 days ahead whether you got a reservation or not for both AP and PH, well before the deadline.

I don't think disney flat out cancelling OOS visitors is a good way to go. And are a lot of Locals staying at the hotels? It seems trying to go through hotel reservations and only cancelling OOS people would be a pain to do and would you have enough occupancy at that point to be worth staying open?

I'm in Georgia and have no DLR trips planned but if I did have a trip planned and parks were open and the on-site hotel I booked at was open and I got cancelled just because I was out of state I'd be pissed.

Should people reconsider trips with all the restrictions? Absolutely. That is different then disney cancelling it themselves Or saying "yeah you booked a 7 day trip in November of 2019. You can go the one park one day".

I don’t recall ever saying Disney would target OOS, but their policies would imperil a lot of OOS based trips, or at least the uncertainty would make them less palatable.

not many people want that degree of uncertainty when traveling > 500 miles and have airfare potentially enter airline reticketing hell.

So I am thinking that they finish the year capped off at 50%. This is their chance to come out clean, they haven't posted 2021 yet, so if they cap at 50%, they can teach, train, and prepare if this goes longer. Plus, I think the Shanghai plan was to only increase by 5%-10% per 2 months.

I know the state will say your clear, open full, but Disney knows they don't want tons of people getting sick after leaving the parks. The only way to protect yourself is to keep it limited.

IIRC Chapek said something like +5000 per week for SDL, which seems so high that it almost seems like he misspoke.

My guess is that the real number is more nuanced based on observations.

ah crap, due to time zones I fell asleep and missed all the fun :)

Well finally a date, and well done to all those who said July, I tried to stay positive for a June date but hey, I was wrong.

So glad I bought my tickets last week, even though my rescheduled trip is October, had a moment of panic and checked the AP to make sure they were still there.

So now the wait begins, what will the new reservation system be like, fingers and toes crossed that all the AP holders here on Dis can get the days they want.

Now that the day is here, just gotta say:

The speculation thread was late to the game, but became way more fun than the official thread. And in less than half the posts!

This confirms there was some good scoop posted here in the last couple days. Well done to those folks! :thumbsup2
Just gotta say: much of the scoop was originally posted in the "official" thread and moved over here later -- doesn't matter which thread it goes in, DISers are on the ball, Period. ;)

So strange that the parks are opening before the resorts. Why is that? I am coming from the east coast and have booked 7/16-7/22 with 5 day park hopper tickets. What will happen tp my reservation? I can not move my dates. I made a back up reservation at a good neighbor hotel after I found out GC wasn't opening. Not really sure if it is worth going now.

I am just wondering how it will work for onsite. We purchased tickets as part of the package, but won't get them till checkin. Seems like they would need to either send e-tickets so we can attach, or use our confirmation codes. I will be interested to see how this is worked out.
This is the same thing I've been wondering. We are booked at Tropicana Inn & Suites for July 21-26 and have 5 day park hopper tickets with MaxPass attached. I'm waiting to see about these park reservations. It doesn't make any sense for us to fly in from Wisconsin if we aren't guaranteed entry to a park each day. I can understand they take away Park Hopper for right now because of the limited capacity...

Does anyone know how Costco DL vacation packages will be handled?

Does anybody can imagine how third party hotel reservations for Disney hotels will be handled? We do have a reservation for PPR, but we made it through Expedia, not via Disney direct?

It doesn’t matter how you booked the room, you do have an onsite reservation. You’re in Disney’s Resort data and will be included in whatever reservation system they are developing.

WDW Resort guests book through Expedia, Orbitz, and other discounters without any problems being part of the advanced Dining and FP system.

I just looked at hotels and PPH and GCH are available to book starting 7/23, with DLH showing unavailable until 10/1. I would assume this is the planned reopening date for DLH as of right now

Most likely want to see how things go with local AP holders before dealing with hotel bookings as well.

I would recommend booking on property hotels if you’re out of state. It’s what I’ve done as the most likely situation to cover my butt. Disney hotels are fully refundable up to 4 days before arrival, for everyone but the “opening week guys” that should be plenty of time for Disney to announce how they’re handling reservations for park access. Think for a moment though, if you were a corporation would you turn away $2,000 + likely higher food and beverage sales from an out of state visitor that needs to book four nights at your hotel just to be “fair” and let someone that had a 75 minute drive get into the parks? There is a likely chance that the local residents might not blow $100 for dinner in the park for two or three people and instead just get a small snack (corn dog or pretzel) and just leave a bit early to get dinner somewhere cheaper on the way home.

I think on property hotel reservations will be the gateway in since it’s a huge revenue driver for Disney, don’t hold off on booking until everything has been announced. They could close bookings at any time or fill up if semi-locals (think 2 hour drive etc) decides its worth a two night stay to have a good weekend, etc.

Look to when Galaxy’s Edge opened and on property guest had guaranteed access...

I totally agree. This is entirely why a couple of weeks ago, we made a PPH reservation for Labor Day weekend. Friends of ours thought we were crazy...they thought that Disneyland wouldn't be open yet by Labor Day. At the time, I told them, "Disneyland will be open for its anniversary in July. Just wait and see."
