Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

Uh oh! Not good! I wonder how they will address that?

Phantom ride voice! I’ve heard it on Pirates when they tell people to get their hand out of the water. It usually embarrasses people when they get called out too and social embarrassment is the best enforcer. 😂

But seriously, they should just do this. Once people know they’ll reprimand you on the ride then it would stop. Do all rides have the phantom voice (sorry... microphone) on them?

I think when I was reading about SWGE at Hollywood Studios, the CM's on Batuu enforce the masks by saying there is a virus going around on the planet in the coverings helps protect everyone. They should do spiels like this in all areas to give reminders.

I don’t think the reminder is enough for some people. They’re purposely taking it off on the ride because they think they can get away with it. And if they do, more people will follow suit. And it’d really suck if rides becomes a higher place of risk when that’s the only thing to do when they reopen. Ugh, frustrating. 😞

Honestly, I hate to be That Person, but the only way they are going to keep people from taking their masks off is to evict them from the park. If they can see people on rides through cameras or whatever, those people need to be stopped as they disembark. Their ticket gets scanned and they get one "educational contact" about Disney's mask rules. If they get caught again and their ticket is scanned a second time, then they are escorted out. No exceptions, no excuses. Otherwise, this is going to snowball fast and hard.

And Newsom isn't going to be very impressed with Disney's rules if they aren't enforced. There's a lot riding on this. Why can't people just behave themselves?!

I read that if you take your mask off on a ride, they won't show your photopass picture. But other than that, there isn't any other repercussions.

I agree. And this is a great idea of how to handle this too. Unfortunately, as a society we’re dealing with a lot of denial with this situation and those same people are going to be at Disney like you see them at your grocery store.

I agree!!! The sooner people take this seriously, the sooner business owners can continue running their businesses, people can get back to work, and others can engage in activities like DLR but modified!

I think they do that here. That is how some counties were ahead of one another in regards to reopening. I think a big misstep they didn't think about were neighboring counties being open at different rates. For example, I think San Diego county reopened dining early on. I knew a TON a of people who went down to San Diego to eat, hang with friends, and go to the beach. Next Orange county opened dining, malls, salons before LA County, so people from LA could easily drive to OC and do what they wanted. On top of that, you also had different rules with masks.

This time around, when Newsom shut things down, basically all of SoCal was shut down at the same time. Even Mayor Garcetti said it's better now that the region has the same rules and we can't go across county lines because one has more open than the other. I'm wondering if they will put a quarantine on surrounding states (looking at you AZ & NV), who technically have much worse case rates than California.

And that ruins the picture for all the other people in the boat/vehicle, same as with pictures in which people 'flash' or flip the bird.

Hey, all you people who can't follow the rules: It's not 'cute', it doesn't make you look 'cool' or 'hard'. It just makes you look like the entitled and selfish idiots that you are.

The counties do have to apply. Everything that was reopened here in San Diego County was approved by Newsome and our public health officer. There may have been some leeway, but most had to be approved by the state, and I know Wilma Wooten approves everything. She tends to follow the Governor’s lead. Go watch Supervisor Jim Desmond’s latest update for more information. Seems like people either want everything closed or everything open and those of us who want moderation are lost in the chaos.

I do agree with Midnight Star that a big issue is people traveling to neighboring counties, and people coming here from other states. I wish everyone would just stay home in their home city/state right now. We’ve decided against coming up to DtD because we don’t live in OC and it’s smarter to stay closer to home.

I think a September opening for Disneyland is looking less likely. At this point, it’s anyone’s guess.

Looking less likely for sure. There's no way he's going to approve an opening date for Disneyland after closing down so many businesses, the negative press would be a force to contend with I think. We also have to remember these governors are also politicians and trying to do a balancing act as well between the warring opinions of those that are politicizing all of this.

Outside of our Disney bubble, WDW is getting absolutely slammed for opening right now in Florida- I am sure he also wants to avoid that. It wouldn't be good press to be like 'Newsom closes these businesses (many of them small businesses...) to combat COVID but approves a Disneyland opening.'

I think we're back to square one. I'm hanging onto our September dates for now but looking at November instead or 2021. I think for me, personally, I want this to be fun and if I'm having anxiety about people taking off masks on rides or crowding me in walkways- it won't be fun. Think we all have to evaluate our own comfort levels with this to help make our decisions.

Hm. Well application is good. I had the impression that Newsom just turned it over to the counties because "local control". That's my mistake. I still think it will be interesting to see how the process is different--or not different--the second go-around. Obviously whatever system they had in place the first time didn't work out so well. I will say our governor closed bars and nightclubs when all the states around us did, even though our cases were relatively low then. He said he didn't want our border cities becoming attractive nuisances for individuals in surrounding states that couldn't go to their own bars. So having a more regional approach rather than county-by-county might make sense.

Target was open during the hard lockdown. I think it falls under grocery so it doesn't have to close.
Yes, I believe that, due to their selling groceries, Target is considered an “essential business,” which means that they were allowed to stay open, even throughout the “shelter in place” order.

I really wish that California would make people who travel out of state to CA quarantine for 14 days, and people who are from CA who go out of state and reutrn home quarantine for 14 days as well. I feel like that could keep people from traveling because no one is going to be able to quarantine for that long. (also that it would be enforced, and if not they would face a hefty fine and possible jail time.)

I am now leaning towards Disneyland not opening until next year, our numbers keep rising and I feel like it is going to be hard to get people to follow the rules and if people can't follow the rules there is no way that we can successfully reopen anything big here.
