DCA
Superstar Limo -- 1/10/02 - 9/26/03

As always with Disney, it is subject to change. :)

Michelle,

Why would Superstar Limo (which has only been open a short time) need a 9 month rehab?!?

They are totally revamping the ride, as it was sort of a "dog" from the beginning and not popular at all. They're adding Goofy in somehow and changing it to Goofy's Superstar Limo. :)

Oh woe is me Michelle:( Last fall when we went on our first trip to DL the Matterhorn was down, and looks to be the same for this year:( Guess I'll just have to keep going back now doesn't it until its running;) :p :p

Try a different time of year, Disneyland refurb. is pretty much on a set schedule, the same attractions are down during the same time each year (for the most part)

Well, unfortunately, the fall is when we head west, so until we can go at another time of the year, we will miss the Matterhorn. No biggie, I'd ride it, but doubt my spouse would get on it, so I probably would pass it by anyway. Looks like the other things she listed will be back up by the time we visit, so all should be well.

Oh, and of course, they could just arbitrarily just not run some rides at DCA, like they did last year while we were there, cause attendance was down. Thought that was strange, but again, it was something I wouldn't get on anyway...so I didn't worry too much about it.

Actually, according to an e-mail I just received today from Diane Elizabeth at Disney.com, King Arthur Carrousel is scheduled to be closed for rehab until Jan. 30, 2003.

And Michelle, is Superstar Limo really closed until Sept. 26, 2003 ? I thought it was opening sometime this fall.

Thanks!

Pixie Glitter, yes, it is 2003. Superstar Limo is definitely not opening any time soon.

As for the others, as stated above, it's all subject to change and it frequently does. :)

Really??!! WOW!! I was under then impression that it was opening THIS September sometime.

Nope, it still shows as closed for as far out as Disneyland shows their hours, which is through November 9.

I heard from a higher-up over at TDA that Superstar Limo and Hollywood and Dine are being re-themed and slated to reopen when the Tower of Terror opens in 2003 or 2004. She said that she bets Tower doesn't get open until Spring of 2004. She said that they are basically going to "re-commemorate" The Hollywood Backlot area....media blitz, ABC stars, TV special, the whole works. Also, they're in talks for another Broadway show to come to the Hyperion to coincide with this. Until this happens, she says, the Backlot is basically going to be a little weak. It's going to continue to open late and close early and there are no plans that she knew of to replace Millionaire with anything right away. Hollywood and Dine and the Backlot area COULD still be used for corporate parties and things like that, though. She said that DCA is being more and more thought of as a big failure even among those (including her) that were involved in it's design and construction. I guess she hadn't heard the one about "the old parking lot generated more revenue than DCA does" and when I told her, she really thought about it awhile and said that it was probably true.

No offense to her, but she and her kind are exactly what is wrong with Disney right now. She was a designer of products for a major healthcare company and was hired away by Disney to help plan DCA. She really knows nothing about Disney history and doesn't even go into the parks that much. She's a nice lady, but she really doesn't understand the Disney magic at all. She might as well be designing a new Mitsubishi SUV or a new kind of soda pop.

Anyway, that's my report.

Roy

P.S. She did get us in Club 33, though....I guess she ain't all THAT bad!

I think the Haunted Mansion is closed as of today also and getting decorated for the Nightmare Before Christmas. Which is a bummer because I am visiting for the first time in 4 DAYS!!!! Yipppeeee
