does the train stop during fantasmic or fire works ? im hoping to get from one land to the next with it at night

Good question! I actually was planning to do the same thing. We're hoping to get from Tomorrowland to New Orleans Square to avoid the fireworks and Fantasmic crowd. Then, we will try to sneak in the backside to find a spot to watch the second Fantasmic.

Another question I had, which I feel stupid for asking: Is the railroad treated like a ride? I mean, do you line up for it or does it cost extra? I feel stupid for asking, but for some reason I've never been on the Disneyland railroad.

Yes it's treated like a ride and you have to line up. Usually lines aren't too bad when I've been there, depends on where you board. I think at most I had to wait for a second train. No it is not extra $.

No it doesn't operate during the fireworks. Since Fantasmic! is just before and after Fireworks, there is a possibility that it will not be running during Fantasmic! Once they get the green light that everything is ok backstage then they will start the train again. It usually takes 20 minutes after the end of the fireworks for engineers to get an ok to start the train again.

Also, you do have to wait in line for the train but there are 4 stops and you can board the train in any location and unload at any location. If you really wanted to sit and ride it all day, you technically could do that.

They also stop the monorail during fireworks. Anyone know why?

I think they stop the trains during the fire works because the cars are open and for safety, if a fireworks spark went into where people were sitting, someone could get burned.

My 13 year old son is a Disney train expert and has read everything he can find on the subject. He says they close the trains during the fireworks because debris can land on the tracks. After the fireworks are over, the engineers walk the tracks to make sure they're clear of fireworks debris. Then they give the all-clear to resume operations. :)

The monorail stopped running during RDCT, it does not stop during the new show.
whats RDCT ? so the monorail will be running when I m there? 19th thru the 26th ? I really would rqther take this from down town disney to tomorrowland during the high traffic times of fire works, and fantasmics

Remember Dreams Come True, the old fireworks show.

Yes, the monorail will be running while you are there. Well, related to fireworks anyway. It could go down for other unplanned reasons, but yeah, it runs during the current fireworks show.

From our train experience from last year (August), the train did not stop during the fireworks. We got on at New Orleans Square…we were tired and wanted to get back to the hotel…we knew main street was crazy crowded, and decided the best way to get back to the main gate was by train. The conductor made an announcement as we approached ToonTown, it would get very LOUD :scared1: (an understatement!) You could FEEL the fireworks. We were warn that it was best to cover our ears, and especially the ears of any children. Stopped at ToonTown, some got off, some got on, and away we went...did I tell you it was LOUD, :scared1: what did you say?

The question about the fireworks and the DLRR was asked at another forum,

and here is what David "Darkbeer" Michael wrote:

"FYI, the Railroad stations never close during fireworks, but the trains do not use a certain portion of the track during the actual performance. A good lead can plan and does a good job of not making folks wait long."

- Darkbeer (May 7, 2009)

I wonder what "certain portion of the track" he was referring to?

HTH :earsboy:

ETA: The above comment is with regard to the RDCT fireworks -- and doesn't refer to the Magical fireworks.

You son had done his research! He's correct.

It's the track between the Fronterland Station
and the Toontown Station and the track
between Small World and the Tomorrowland
Station.

They stop the trains if there is little to no wind
of if it's blowing to the north. They often allow
the trains through if the wind is blowing east
or south.

So sometimes catching the train to miss the Main
Street crowds works very well.
