Disneyland Railroad long wait time?

I've been stalking the app to check wait times for my upcoming trip and have noticed that the Railroad has had 30min wait most of the time, as far as I recall in the before times I don't think I ever encountered more than a 15 min wait.

Anyone have an idea on why? Are there covid protocols? I just find it really bizarre.

If there is a long wait it is usually because they are running fewer trains. I’m not sure why, I know I was riding a train recently that they pulled off the track after we completed the circle. This was around noon. Sometimes the wait time is correct and sometimes not. When we were there about 10 days ago the wait was listed as 20 minutes but the trains came about every 10.

You can usually figure out the railroad pretty quickly while in line. If you get in line, they load a train and it doesn’t seem like you’ll get on the next one, bounce. If you get in line, it doesn’t seem that long but you’re waiting a long time, then they’re just not running that many trains.

Point is, 30 min may be the average but if you get in line at the right time, it can be a lot less, or a lot more. This matters more for the railroad, because the time between trains is so long, creating variability.
