Thanks so much! I already see that your ISO is waaaay more than I'm able to get on my D50, which explains a lot. I'm glad to see how clear your photo looks with that high of an ISO though. I would have been afraid to use it!

You're welcome. Yeah, the D90 has a newer sensor than the D50, so I guess that's why we can use higher ISO settings. My lens is a slow lens though, just the 18-200VR. I think it starts out at f/3.5 and increases the more you zoom out. I think if you have a faster lens you may be able to get some shots of the brighter lit scenes. Perhaps if you sat closer and used a prime lens like a 85mm 1.8 or 1.4? Sorry I couldn't help you more. I was about 3/4s of the way up from the front of the stage to the back of the room at 135mm, so if you had a faster prime and could get in closer you could probably get some usable shots, you just wouldn't be able to zoom.
