Disneyland Park Hoppers

My mom and I are planning our long awaited return trip to SoCal in July. We haven't been there together since 2001, and we can't wait! I was there with a friend 4 years ago, and I remember we had park hoppers for our stay. However, I can't remember exactly how they work.

We are going to be there for 5 days, and I figure we will visit the DL parks at least 3 of those days. My question is: Do 3-day park hoppers have to be used consecutively, or could we activitate them on a Saturday, then use them on Monday and Wednesday?

Just like at WDW, you have 14 days from the date of first activation to use them.
