Disneyland Paris

Has anyone been to Disneyland Paris? If so, which hotel did you stay at, and how was it? Was transportation (shuttles maybe?) available to transport you from the hotel to other sightseeing places in Paris?

Is the park pretty identical to the American Disney parks?

I've never been anywhere in Europe before, and I'm thinking that my DVC points might be my ideal opportunity to get there.

We've never been there--But I personaly would wait until Disney Studios opens in 2002--more "bang" for your stay.
Also the brochure we received a couple of days ago states you can stay at the Disneyland hotel for $167 at value season which will do very reasonable seeing how the moderates are going above and beyond that price.--more expensive to use DVC points.

Been to DLP twice. Enjoyed it a lot. First time, stayed at Newport Bay, and second time, stayed at Hotel Cheyenne. All hotels are walking distance to DLP and the Downtown Disney type area (if I recall, it was called Festival Disney or something like that). The hotels are quite nice, although the rooms are somewhat smaller than the WDW counterparts. I also think maintenance of the hotels wasn't quite up to snuff with the WDW hotels. Hotel Cheyenne and Santa Fe are the 'budget' hotels, and don't have swimming pools. Sequoia Lodge and Newport Bay are next higher up, then Hotel New York, and finally
Disneyland Hotel. The park is quite similiar to MK, but with a lot of French influences, and a few different rides.
Festival Disney has several attractions, shows, clubs, movies, etc. Also, Planet Hollywood, Rainforest Cafe, and McDonalds. And several Disney restaurants.
A new 'studios' park is scheduled to open in April 2002.
There is a train station right in the middle of it all. I understand that some of the Eurostar trains from London go directly to DLP now. Also trains to other locations in France.
You can also take the RER train to the center of Paris (perhaps 40 minutes). And from there, the metro or other RER trains will take you anywhere.

Scott: Where did you get the brochure with the prices? (request thru the DLP web site?) I'm planning on going again next year and want to begin planning.

We stayed 5 days in London at the Royal Garden Hotel and then traveled to DLP via the Eurostar high speed train under the Englsih channel, We had reservations for the Disneyland Hotel, when we checked in they apparently had overbooked the hotel, they asked us if we would change to the Hotel New York into a one-bedroom suite, which was more than twice the size of the room we would have had in the DLH, this way my wife and I have a separate bedroom and our kids had the living room with a queen sofabed, they also had a half bath of their own, and we had the full bath in our room, plus I am very glad we did it, you need to look at a map of the parks and hotels to see what I am talking about. because of the layout of the area, the park and DLH is all by itself and you have to walk by the train station where it is very dark and spooky as you walk to Downtown Disney and if you continue on you then hit the Hotel NY and then the Sequoia and then the Newport Hotel, the 3 hotels are clustered near each other around a lake and because of the 3 hotels there are more people and it doesn't feel so deserted and desolate like DLH does.

Plus there are 2 other hotels that are cheaper that are very far away and there is no transportation, you actually need your own car for one of them, Hotel NY is closest to DD where most of the nighlife and eating is, although each hotel has there own restaurant, we did a character dinner one night at DLH.

If you have any questions feel free to ask, we also took a tour into Paris from the hotel, the tour buses pull up to the front of the hotel and it is about a 45 minute ride to Paris.a

Info packet was from disney.com and I just clicked around until I found where to receive the brochure from the site.
Seems very reasonable for Disneyland hotel considering the going price at one of the WDW moderates.
Not planning on using our points if its so cheap when we go when the Studios(our FAVE park) opens.
just have to find reasonable airfare if that can be done.

Is is like the magic kingdom but on a smaller scale, like cinderellas castle is much smaller and looks very different, also Mainstreet was shorter, but behind the shoppes on each side are corridors for you to walk down to avoid the crowds on mainstreet, they have things there in one park that we have in 4, like star tours, honey I shrunk the kids, plus other things that we don't have here, like the walk thru Capt. Nemo's sub was cool, go to the disney.com site and do the virtual tour, it will show you everything.


It is well worth going to DLP, the biggest thing I didn't like was the smoking, Europeans smoke constantly. And don't eat the popcorn, they put sugar on it insterad of salt, and don't let them put their secret sauce on your hamburger, it's barf city.

Thanks for taking the time to give me a lot of details! I did not know that Disney Studios would be opening up there in April 2002. I think that Disneyland Paris will be a strong possibility for us for 2003.

I also had no idea that any of the hotels of fer 1BR type units. I was assuming that all of them would be just plain hotel rooms. There are not different point values listed for different size units, only for the different hotels. Or does each hotel have its own specific size of units?

Normr, you also mentioned the Royal Garden Hotel in London. We also have that in the hopper for consideration. Any feedback on how that was?
