Hi, this August I will be visiting friends in California, I'm going to sneak in 2 days at the resort. I have never been and I am a regular at Disneyland Paris (a Brit with a annual pass). Do you have any suggestions on what to miss and not to miss. I will be staying off site in a Hilton nearby. (Your prices are eye watering compared to ours!!)

Also do you reccomend a park hopper or a whole day in each park, here a park hopper is a must as studios is small.

Should I buy tickets here? Or from American vendors? We do get different deals to Americans for WDW, not sure if that applies to Disneyland.

Welcome. We went to DLP back on a vacation to Paris a few years ago but only for 1 day. It was cold and beautiful. Snowed while we were there. Not something you'd get here.

Yes, on park hoppers. With the Genie+, you can easily go back and forth booking rides. That said, one day per park is what I'd recommend. But the flexibility, especially if there's an after-hours event, is nice. DCA closes earlier than Disneyland so you'll have the option to move back over to DL after closing.

I would say focus on the classic Disneyland portions, though you may want to go to Galaxy's Edge if you're a Star Wars fan. There may be some overlap in the classic dark rides. I can't fully remember all that DLP had. Alice, Matterhorn, Mr. Toad, Canal Boats, Casey Jr, Sleeping Beauty Castle walkthrough, and Indiana Jones are exclusive to DL. You do have a good amount of overlap since DLP is somewhat of a copy of DL. Pirates and Haunted Mansion are very different as DLP has the WDW version of Pirates. Big Thunder has elements of the previous attractions that stood on it so you may want to check it out. Sadly, the Paris version was being refurbished when we were there. Space Mountain may or may not have the Hyperspace Mountain overlay when you're there. Last year, it was added around May 4th and through most of the summer.

California Adventure should be wholly different with the exception of Little Mermaid. I think you have that at DLP. Avengers Campus may have some overlap but I don't think the Paris version has Webslingers. Tower of Terror was converted from a scary ride to Guardians of the Galaxy which is more exhilarating. Cars Land is a must. Fantastic theming and Radiator Racers might be the best ride in the park. Pixar Pier is very enjoyable. Soarin is a must. If you want to get wet when it's hot, Grizzly Peak will soak you.

As far as tickets, you should check some of the online sites like Getaway Today or Undercover Tourist. Each would offer digital tickets that you can load in your Disneyland app. You can also take a print out to the gate.

Your reply is brilliant! Thank you. I'm really pleased you like my local park. It's such a shame you missed on thunder mountain, lots say it's the best of all the parks.

We do now have avengers campus with flight force and web slingers. (The latter being a clone but with a dodgy french voice over). But I really need to go on your GOTG mission breakout! Huge rocket fan here. It's basically a re skinned version of our Hollywood tower. But it has rocket! Yes I think DCA has only one cross over ride and that's web slingers so that whole park is exciting to me.

I probably will miss the same fantasy land rides we have peter, pinocchio and snow white. (Albeit 2 of the 3 are just in French). Your space mountain looks fun and is very different to ours as it does not throw you upside down and I hope it's not star wars like ours. #bringbackthemoon (we are trying to get the of back).

I really would like to do rise and runaway although I feel we will get runaway soon as DLP park has not had a new ride in cough... 25 years!!!!! (Not the studios). Rise is best at night and is not included in genie+?

Speaking of genie plus is it easy to use and to link etc? Will I need an American mobile number for texts? We have premier access but its not the same.

Do the firework shows end the day like here? Or does the park remain open after?

I looked at your ticket prices and was shocked a 2 day 2 park ticket here is $141 yours is $320! That's crazy!

While I am at it any tips on where to eat? I hear great things about ronto wraps. Could you suggest any place in disney village?

It was 6 years ago that we went to DLP so my memory may be fuzzy but we loved every second of it as my wife and I never went alone to a Disney park before we had kids. The whole day was great as the park was not crowded and the snow made it even more magical. Loved taking the RER train from Paris. The stop was right outside our flat near the Eiffel Tower.

So Rise is an ILL ride meaning you pay for it separately and the cost changes based on which day you are there. It is totally worth buying, IMO. I would do it simply because the ride is prone to break downs and you would have a pass to return whenever it goes back up. Galaxy's Edge is great to walk through at night. Rise does get cut off around 9pm.

If you have Webslingers then I would skip it at DCA and focus on Cars Land, Pixar Pier, and Guardians. Rocket is a part of the Guardians pre-show so definitely try to get in the center of the room to see him and hang back for a bit for a fun part at the end. That's also a good one to ride at night so you could always rope drop Guardians and save the Genie+ selection for later in the day.

Space Mountain is worth a ride for sure. No loop but it's still fun. I am not a fan of the Hyperspace Mountain overlay either. Not everything has to have something Star Wars attached to it. It's criminal that they changed the DLP one. That ride was fantastic. I love Jules Verne so that whole land is incredible and the look of Space Mountain II is amazing.

I completely forgot about Runaway Train. I think that's just a normal Genie+ selection now. It's at the very rear of the park so I don't know if you want to make that the first thing you do.

You will need data for Genie+. There's wifi in the park but it's pretty terrible. You might want to look into data plans for going overseas. Or maybe get a SIM card for your device when you get here. There should be some temporary options. Not my area of expertise though. Genie+ lets you choose a ride from the current available time. You can only have 1 at a time but once you enter the hour window for your ride or 2 hours from the last selection, you can choose another. But honestly, unless the park is super busy that morning, most selections are within 10-30 minutes of the current time meaning most rides are walk on or low waits. I always recommend people ride Genie+ rides without the Genie+ early in the day if they can so you have the option to re-ride later with the Genie+ when the parks are more busy. My kids were so proficient at Genie+ that they were able to ride multiple Genie+ rides on standby and then later with the Genie+. There's also multi-experience passes that you can get if you ride goes down and you have a Genie+ selection in that same time. Then you can use it for most of the other rides, minus Rise and probably Runaway Train.

One important tip I learned on the Indiana Jones ride is to walk into the standby queue for it before booking at Genie+ selection for the ride. If the line is outside the building or only going up the ramp, do not book the Genie+ selection. If the line is in the switchbacks to your left and is pretty full, book the Genie+. All you accomplish with Genie+ on that ride is getting past the outside queue. The Genie+ redemption stand is right by the entrance to the building and you still have to make your way to the preshow area.

Depending on when you go, there may be two fireworks shows. And you really need to take in Fantasmic and World of Color if you've never done so before. Typically Disneyland closes at midnight in the summer and DCA closes at 10pm. World of Color goes at 9pm, I believe. When it's over, they usher people out of the park. DL stays open so people can shop but the ride lines cut off at midnight.

Definitely take a look at online ticket sites to get a little bit of a discount. As far as food, Ronto wraps are good. I like Jolly Holiday for a quick bit. Honestly, I try to stay away from sit down restaurants because there's just more time for other things. Bengal BBQ, Tropical Hideaway, Rancho Del Zocalo are all good. You'll need your phone for mobile ordering at some of the locations. Like if you want a Dole Whip while you watch Enchanted Tiki Room (a must), you will need to mobile order for the stand outside the attraction. Otherwise, you can wait in a line at Tropical Hideaway.

So if you're into YouTube, I recommend the following people: Disney Food Blog (she's more Orlando but does some good Disneyland videos), Provost Park Pass, and FreshBaked. The latter is more things happening around Disneyland but Provost and DFB have some good recommendations for how to navigate Genie+ and Disneyland/DCA.

Thanks for your in depth guide. I will be buying genie for sure then. I just don't want to be on my phone all the time if you get me.

Tickets are weird. I don't get why a 2 day pass is more expensive than a 1 day pass x 2?

Well I think I will sit down and make a list of all the rides I want to do. I am glad you had a nice snow day at DLP. I enjoy this time of year and October. It's crazy how much busier the park is these days since your visit. The 30th celebration has really made the park popular.

Thanks for the you tubers, I will defo give most of them a watch. I've tried Disney food blog and find it to click bate for my liking but the other 2 sound good.

Can you buy tickets just through dreams?

Hey there! We were at DLP over new years 2020 and had a great time! Loved the ease of the two parks. You will find a similar ease between DCA and DL. I would definitely do all of Fantasy land. small world and the Bobsleds. We really liked the DLP Casey Jr even though we are adults, LOL. Radiator Springs Racers and Sorin are also must dos. And of course all the Star Wars and Marvel stuff. Enjoy the warmth! We have pics of Ice on Dumbo when we were at DLP in December! It did warm up and we loved it! Enjoy DL!!

One day tickets vary in price depending on the time of year/tier of the ticket for the day you are going and 2 (and more) day tickets are a set price no matter what time of year/day you go. There are some dates where it is cheaper to buy 2 1 day tickets instead of a 2 day ticket so once you know your dates and the tickets for those dates come available you can see which way makes more financial sense. Prices for dates are 120 days out so you have a couple of months until the prices for August are available.

Mansion. Do not miss Haunted Mansion.

Check the attractiontickets direct website. The German site has cheaper offers than the park sometimes, and I know they have a UK site.

Regarding phones, I have had texts from restaurants coming through fine on my German number. The parks have Wifi and it works better than Paris. ;) I'd still advise looking into a cheap US Sim Card though. There's cheap offers on Amazon with data and even free calling to the UK.

Not sure if it will still be open in August... Earl of Sandwich is temporarily open outside the Main Gates if you get a little homesick for DLP. ;) I like Black Tap in Downtown Disney (what is known in Paris as Disney Village), but be aware, the portions are huge! Other than that nothing too exciting. Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen has recently remodelled and looks a bit generic now, I think they changed the menu too.

In the parks pretty much everything I would recommend has already been named. I'd maybe add Pacific Wharf Cafe, but August won't go well with soups.

Thanks for all your tips, basically I need to do everything in 2 days lol. I'm not a parade guy but I want to see magic happens as I really enjoy our 30th celebration show and I feel they have both hit the nail on the head.

Is magic happens a 2x a day event? I was thinking of viewing that as it starts on main Street but then wonder is it impossible to go up main Street after for a time?

Magic happens twice a day, yes. I've done "parade following" but it is not pretty. That is where the Paris Arcades definitely come in useful.

This is true, however, if you want to have parkhoppers it will be cheaper to get a 2 day park hopper pass than 2 1-day tickets with park hoppers.

Hi everyone
Visiting family in Cali in Aug and we heading over to DL and DCA adventure for a bit. We haven’t been in 7 years and our son is 9 now and dying to go back. We are WDW veterans and we are used to spending a week there so I’m a bit overwhelmed with the planning. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Do you think 2 day hopper with Genie plus or 3 day pass with genie plus? Thanks in advance for any help!

We went to DLP last July and loved it! We go about 1x a year to Disneyland in Anaheim

Definitely get park hoppers & Genie + - different than Premier Access

DLP is beautiful; and far more beautiful than the American parks. Just feels more spacious and easy vs Disneyland.

Also make your decisions about how to ride Rise of the Resistance in Galaxy's Edge. It is NOT to be missed!

The biggest difference between DLP & the American parks is the snacking and the quality and quantity of restaurants in the park as well as in Downtown Disney.

Also - the only alcohol in Disneyland is at Oga's Cantina in Galaxy's Edge (GO if you even just like Starwars - so much fun) Blue Bayou and Club 33 vs grabbing a beer at a cart in DLP. Alcohol all over the place in DCA.

The only thing we did in Disney Village was go to Starbucks on our way to rope drop.

Snacks: Dole Whip, Clarabelle's Ice Cream, Hideaway, Churros, the shwarma cart in Avenger's Campus, bakeries and Marcelline's Confectionary. We were *so* disappointed in the snacks at DLP and lack of ice cream & churros.

Regarding Ronto's Roasters: we like getting the breakfast ronto as a mid-morning snack as we are rope drop people. It's really good!

See the Parade although we LOVED the Dream & Shine Brighter parade and the drone shows are very cool at DLP.

Don't miss World of Color in DCA and the fireworks. Don't know if Fantasmic will be back any time soon but that is a big part of Disneyland night time entertainment that you don't have at DLP

There's some great fast casual: they don't do buffets or prix fix meals at Disneyland like they do at DLP so be prepared or a la carte dining.

Make a reservation for a sit down meal every day is my advice. We love Lamplight Lounge, Carthay Circle, Naples in downtown disney for lunch - dine outside - great break from the parks. Blue Bayou is an institution and similar to Captain Jacks. If you want high end go to Napa Rose at the Grand California Hotel

Go to Trader Sam's at the Disneyland Hotel - love it! Fun Tiki Bar and sometimes there's live music outside.

Go on all the rides is my advice! Even if they are similar to the ones at DLP it's a lot of fun. Space Mountain, Matterhorn, everything in Fantasyland, Haunted Mansion, Pirates, Indiana Jones, Big Thunder all fun.

In DCA go on Guardians, Incredicoaster, Soarin', Grizzly River Run, Toy Story Midway Mania and everything in CarsLand are always fun & different

Our castle isn't as impressive (the walk throughs at DLP!!! That castle is stunning!) but it's the original that was Walt's vision.

Have fun!
