Hiya, if I'm on crutches, when I go to Disneyland and we have to walk to DL every day... This could be a problem, how do you deal with this? WDW too, please reply! Thanks :) Walking from a hotel for DL. Getting around for both parks, how do you deal with it? :confused3

I know that, I mean how do you get to and from DL and WDW/parks from your hotel if there is no shuttle?

:headache: Sorry - your font is actually so tiny that I had a hard time reading it... You rent a wheelchair from an offsite vendor for the entire trip. That way you can use it all the time you want.

It is a long long long long hike from DLR hotels to the monorail station let alone parks. Some hotels drop off guests and that is a block long walk at least. DLR requires tons of walking and DCA is undergoing a 5 year expansion and before that started had some inclines like a bridge and the raft area. Toontown is entered by going under the railroad bridge which is rather steep for some folks.

ECV or wheelchair? ECV is great for a person on crutches as they can use the ECV to get from the hotel to the park and then to rides but get out of the ECV and hobble onto the ride using the disabled or fast pass line.

Wheelchairs fit smaller areas and allow the user to elevate their leg. The chair can be folded which may make things easier. The only bad thing is that it can wear out the pusher if they are the only one pushing like me pushing mom.

Definitely get a chair of ECV from offsite to make it easier on you. Been there many times and no longer go as the walking killed me. Check FAQs for more information.

From the hotels in DLR have to walk to the monorail station in DownTown Disney. The Grand Californian is half way between the monorail and park entrances so you walk either way. Guests of the Grand Californian may enter DCA through an entrance at the Grizzly Rapids area. All guests may enter the hotel via that entrance but only hotel guests may reenter the park that way.

Music is "Long long Way to Tiperary" lol.

To answer about WDW, if you are staying at one of the WDW resorts, there is bus service to go from your resort to the parks and back. You can bring a wheelchair or ECV on the bus. There is more information about using the WDW transportation in the disABILITIES FAQs thread.

If you rent from off-site, you can often get crutch holders fitted, to keep them out of the way while you're in the chair / ECV. If you want these, make sure you talk to the company about them when you phone up to reserve your chair / ECV.

HTH! :thumbsup2

When I was recovering from a knee injury I much prefered using crutches in the parks. The first 2 times, we rented a wheelchair and brought that. I had to have the kind where your leg sticks out in front of you. I lost count of all the people that walked into my bad leg, it's like they don't even see you in a wheelchair. I started using the crutches the third trip and it was amazing the difference. People never ran into me and always made room for me to get by and were much more considerate in general. I suggest if you're proficent with the crutches to just use them in the parks and save a lot of stupid guests running into you. Just make sure you stop at guest relations and get a GAC. A lot of the turnstyles are much too narrow for crutches at WDW.

In DLR, stay at the Disneyland Hotel. This hotel is a 5 minute walk to the Monorail staion (in DTD) and it let's out in Tomorrow land, in the park.

Also...The security lines are much shorter at this station.
