Hi! I am planning a 1-day trip to Disneyland on Tuesday, November 11th and discovered to my surprise the park is open until midnight that night. Is there any specific reason for this? I thought this would be a quiet time of year to visit, but is there some event I don't know about that is why the park is open so late? Or do you think attendance will be particularly high that day due to the late closing?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts!

Veteran's Day is November 11th this year. It's a state and federal holiday and the schools will be out. Obviously DLR is expecting large crowds. Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings.

FYI Some schools in the area also have monday the 10th off... As if they give us a middle of the week holiday the parents usually keep them out the day before. So this Thursday thye are out for the Jewish Holiday. But also off on Friday. But we are not off for columbus day on Monday.

I don't get it.

Also they give us the entire week off for thanksgiving..

Not to be a stickler for details, but Veteren's Day is actually November 11th every year, not just this year. The day it's observed gets moved to either the friday or monday closest to the 11th. The only reason I happen to know this is that Veternen's Day is my birthday. :goodvibes

matth2812, we will be there starting from Nov. 9th. I am hoping that the majority of the crowd shows for the weekend and will clear out by the actual Veteran's day since it is on Tuesday. Guess we will both just have to wait and see. Maybe we will get lucky and it will be one of those days when the crowd that was expected doesn't show up.

Thanks for your replies!
So does anyone know how heavy crowds typically can get on veteran's day? July 4th heavy? Thanksgiving heavy? Christmas Day heavy??? :) What are people's opinions on visiting on Nov 12th instead (park hours 10am-8pm) in terms of getting around the park and on the attractions? Could I actually get more done that day even though the park is open 6 less hours?

If I had the choice between going Nov 11 or 12, I'd pick the 12th. I HATE crowds.

I'm a veteran, so it's cool to go to Knott's early in the day and they usually close at 6 then go to DL for the rest of the day. It the only day I go to Knotts cuz those rides hurt my head. But I love to give my kids a Double Amusement Park Day!:cool1:

If you do end up in the park on the 11th try to make the flag retreat ceremony !

What is that?

The flag retreat ceremony is held at the flagpole in town square about 4:30 each afternoon. It's the lowering of the American flag. Two children are picked to help. There's a color guard to properly lower and fold the flag. There's also a barbershop quartet who sings God Bless America, It's all very patriotic and brings a lump to your throat and tears to your eyes, especially because you can tell the soldiers and former soldiers as they stand at attention and salute (and I have to admit, makes me so proud of my son who's in the Army).

I've lived in California all my life and have been going to Disneyland since I was a little girl and it wasn't until 2 trips ago that I discovered the ceremony. Now I won't miss it.

Hope that helps.
