Two years ago we attended the Disneyland Birthday Party when DD turned 1 years old. It was fun but I believe she was free of charge and the rest of us only had to pay $10. So for $30 bucks total, it wasn't too bad on the wallet.

Now the fee is $15 plus tax and we will be going for DS's 6th birthday. It is going to cost us $60 for the 4 of us to go this time. I am wondering if we should try to talk DS out of the "party" and put that money towards dinner at Goofy's kitchen.

What do you all think?

If it makes a difference, we would be doing the "party" on Mother's day (Sunday, May 10th). We will also be doing Magic Morning that day too. We could schedule GK for a non-Disney day so it wouldn't be time out from the park.

Personally, I would do Goofy's instead. But that is just me. Unless your DS has his heart set on it, talk him into Goofy's.

Another vote for Goofy's. Goofy's almost never disappoints. Fun atmosphere and characters and a large selection of pretty good food.:thumbsup2

Have a great trip.:)

I would do the plaza party. The only reason why I say it is because we had a bad time at goofys kitchen when we had a waiter who didnt even say my daughters name correct after telling him a number of times and the characters didnt come around much and we celebrated another birthday that was at the table next to us which I thought that we would get personal attention for a birthday for the price. I love the mickey mouse cake decorating and pat e cake guy was funny and my kids love mickey and minnie so its hard for us to go towards goofy's kitchen.

I thought we were the ones who got the shaft treatment at Goofys! I guess not. We wont go back for similar reasons.

Us too, GK sucked and we won't go back. I'd do the bday thing at PI if I was you. :)

If it was between Goofy's and PI bday party, I would go with PI. We did however do a breakfast brunch at Lilo and Stitch and it was so nice :) The characters came and sang (stitch and pluto) and they got a cake (albeit it was kind of gross tasting) but we also ordered a bday bucket :)

If I ever go to DL for my birthday I am going to sneak cupcakes on to PotC and ask to sit on the back row and my family and I will have "birthday cake" with the pirates! :) Shhh... dont tell the CM's. (Gotta dodge those cameras!)

What a bummer that so many of you had bad treatment at GK's. How hard can it be to provide good service at a BUFFET????:confused3 I would not be happy with poor treatment when the prices are so high!

We have done GK once for breakfast and once for dinner and both times were fine.

On the other hand, $60 bucks for some little birthday cakes seems a little much. DH and I won't eat the cakes at all and DS & DD will most likely only eat the frosting (and get it all smeared over themselves).

Decisions, decisions.....

I know I'm not answering any of you actual questions... but I'm planning our trip for my DD's first birthday in September :cool1: Did your DD enjoy the birthday party? Jordyn is my first child and I don't really know what a 1 y/o will be into at that point.... I want to do it, but I don't want do take her to something that she's still too young for... :wizard:

Thank you for suggesting this! That might be a good compromise! I just called and the CM at Disney Dining (in usual Disney style) and he didn't have much info because they still haven't hammered out the details....including price!! I am going to guess the price will be about what the other character meals are. I may go ahead and make ressies (when I can) and wait to hear what the reviews are like. We love bbq and love that "Woody" area of the park with the petting zoo.

I think my 1 yr old enjoyed the party as much as she enjoyed any of the other aspects of DLR. To be honest, it was fun because we had our 3 yr old with us and he really got into it! If it would be fun for the rest of your group, I would totally do it.

There are no characters at the party except for Mickey and Minnie who come out at the end. The music is VERY loud. The frosting is very bright and sticky (bring lots of wipes to clean her hands & face). When we went, the party was at 2pm so that was in the middle of nap time too - another consideration!

We had the same experience! The buffet was really small and goofy never came to our table. One character was not in character (told my son to just pretend she wasn't there and smile for the picture, ds was not fond of her, the fairy godmother). Minnie was the only other character to come to our table and she let me take a pic of her then zoomed to the next table. We went this past Sunday night and don't plan on going back there.
