Headed to DL Monday with my 2 year old son, husband and friend. As my son won’t be able to rude big thrill rides, we will be doing rider swap. I’m interested in max pass for the photos but wondering if only I purchase it can I reserve fast passes for a big attraction but have us all utilize it since we are doing ride swap? Or does every party member (besides toddler) need a fast pass even doing ride swap?

Any other tips, must do etc. I’m open to them. Even though I’m a west coast girl I usually go to WDW.

No, you can't reserve passes on MP for people who haven't purchased MP themselves. They must still use paper FPs.

I don't know how MP or FP factors into rider swap.

I think OP is asking if they can just book one FP through MP for the person who purchased it, and then use rider swap so the other two adults can ride as well. Yes, I believe you can do that. I'm not familiar with the ins and outs of rider swap, but I'm fairly certain that only the person/people going in the first round need a FP (or they can do standby), and then the second group goes through the FP line because they have rider swap. Also, when you go to redeem the FP, they don't check whose ticket it is, so you can take turns being the one who has to go alone.

The people doing the rider swap do NOT need a FP but the person with MaxPass will have to ride alone and then the other riders (up to three) will ride together using the swap.

So I'll just add my experience (and this has happened consistently over three trips) that the CMs at Star Tours always ask to see MP/FP for our whole party before issuing a rider switch in the MP/FP line. I don't know why. My husband and son will take their MP up and ask for a rider switch, and then they will ask to see my MP for ST before giving me a RS. Has anyone else had this experience before? The one time I didn't have a MP, it was such a hassle trying to convince the CM to give me a RS that I never tried it again.

That is weird. I have never had that happen and we have used rider switch many times! However, I have never used rider switch with MaxPass, only with legacy fastpass. I don't see how or why there would be any difference though. The second party has never needed a FP to ride in the pass. Otherwise, what would the point of the rider switch be? You would just both get fast passes and both ride separately one after the other and be done with it.

I agree; I haven’t had this happen either (and it defeats the purpose of rider swap, as you mentioned).

I believe rider switch is one of the greatest areas of CM confusion, though, so I’m not surprised to hear that other people have had this experience.
