Disneyland is going to the dogs!!!!

And I mean that...literally!!! We have been at DLR since Sunday evening, and we have seen 9 (that's nine) dogs in the parks!!!!! One was a security dog, and 6 were service dogs in training (not with a disabled person..just being trained) that actually RODE THE RIDES!!! And one was just a dog.. not a service dog, not security, just a dog on a leash. He was on a leash in a grassy area outside HM, then a little later we saw his owner pushing him around in a doggy stroller!!!! I have NEVER, EVER seen any dogs inside the park. I understand service dogs, and even securtity dogs (even though it must be a fairly new thing), but I cannot figure out how that "regular" dog was allowed in!!! It has been pretty weird! Me and DD are having fun counting the dogs!!
We saw the fireworks tonight, and they were great! I loved the snow on MS, even though we get snow where we live! It was so fun to see all the little kids get excited about it! Plus, snow in 70 degree weather is ALOT better than snow in the cold!!!!
The decorations are beautiful, and I cannot get enough of SWH!!! It is so incredible with all the lights on it! Well, I need to get some sleep so we can get up in the AM and head back into the parks!!!!

When we went in late October/early November, we saw a service dog too, riding in the boat in front of us on Pirates. The dog was actually someone's service dog, and they (the owner and the dog) both looked like they were having a great day.

I couldn't help but wonder what the heck was going through that dog's mind when we went down the drops on Pirates.

My experience is that 98% of dogs are better than 98% of adult humans. As long as they don't try to cut in line or steal my mickey bar, this hound has no problem with puppies in the park.

i saw a service dog (puppy in training at goofys kitchen) jasmin stoped and played with it and my son was like look jasmin has a puppy lol

I then saw like 3 or 4 ppl walking there dogs out side the park.
Yes we did see security dogs too but id rather have them there for protection i know each time i saw them even at bus station i felt safer knowing they would catch bombs and stuff before anything bad happined

Well they can't keep service dogs off the rides. LOL And ya, I wonder what that dog was thinking on any of the drops it went on! LOL Too funny....my dog would LOVE to go to DL but he's not a service dog and I would never try to push my 45 lb dog in a stroller! LOL I wouldn't push the new puppy we are getting soon in one either, and she will only be around 12 lbs tops! LOL When we were there the first weekend of November we saw a couple of service dogs, my girls always want to pet them and get sad when they aren't allowed to.

First let me say I am a dog lover. But, I do want to see dogs in DL. Of course, Disney being so giving to service organizations I can understand the service dogs, and because of 9-11, I understand and welcome the security dogs as DL has been on the top ten hit list from Al-Quada ( I don't care if I spelled that right you all know what I mean and they don't deserve my respect to spell the name correctly). As far as the person with the dog and the doggy stroller shame on them. I wish security had seen them. DLR provides a kennel outside the gate for dogs. I have always believed DLR to be a no dog park. And on a lighter side, yes I do wonder what the dog was thinking in the drops on the POTC ride.

I think its great that the service dogs in training are getting to go to DL - after all, how else do they learn... and there is plenty they have to ignore in DL! except for a few rides (Space, splash, big thunder) service dogs are allowed on all the rides.

We once rode the monorail in WDW with a service dog in training. It is so hard not to want to pet them, but when they are "on duty" you are supposed to leave them alone.

Service dogs are cool, but I don't think they should be allowing pets to roam around the parks (on leashes or otherwise). To me it's asking for problems. Dog poop, dogs getting scared or nervous around crowds (possibly biting someone), getting stepped on. So many issues I see there. Not everyone is dog lovers, and DL isn't really a place they should have to deal with someone else's pet. JMO

Trained service dogs are, as a rule, not viscious. however, if pets are allowed in, how do you know that it is not a mean animal? how do you know it was not trained to fighting? i agree that service dogs are cool, but disneyland is far too crowded for pets...

can you imagine trying to maneuvery through the strollers and scooters with "Fifi" your 3-lb yorkie? she'll get squished! sorry, but no dogs other than service/seeing eye dogs in the parks

I agree with you. There are all kinds of problems with allowing pets. For both the guests, the owners, and the dogs! Just not a good idea.

I am not an expert on service dogs, but I suppose these dogs need to be exposed to every sort of place. I've seen service dogs in training and actual ones at the parks as well as the Disney Magic. I never considered that they would ride the rides as well, but I suppose it makes sense.

The non-service-in-training, non-security dog...well, that's a different matter. Wonder how he managed to get it past the security and entrance turnstiles (did the guards think it was a baby?)

The "person with the dog and the doggy stroller" could also have had a service dog. Many more debilitating diseases and syndromes are getting animals to help them.

People, who on the outside may not look look like they have any diseases, can have diseases on the inside.

I don't look like I have 3 different diseases that cause Fatigue. I have bad knees because of a motorcycle accident although I have pretty nice looking knees. I can walk a little but I have no stamina for long distances. So, I rent a off-site scooter when I go to DL so I can enjoy my days without pain and without spending most of my days in the hotel sleeping.

In all seriousness, regarding offical Service/Assistance dogs, at least in Australia there are no limits where they can be taken. Even on planes in the cabin with their person (non service dogs need to do normal animal transport), theme park rides, all restuarants, etc. The dogs are more less treated as a person.

I'm all for service dogs being allowed at Disneyland and I understand that training runs are important as well.

But last trip there we saw a group of folks who had 4 dogs in training with them. They were causing quite the bottleneck on Main Street. I'm thinking a little common sense and courtesy would be a good thing. Did they really need to congregate in a very busy place with all 4 dogs? I'm thinking that was not a necessary part of training.

They were also letting kids pet one of the dogs. Bad idea in my opinion. I think if the dogs are in the parks they need to be "on duty" and the trainers need to explain what that means to any adoring young fans so they know it's not OK to pet a working service dog.

I've also seen characters playing with service dogs. Cute as can be, but from what my friend who owns a service dog tells me, not the best idea either.

i agree with the desies and problems. I have bad legs too and wish i would of just gave in an rented a scooter but next time i will. But I also have seen some ppl have to keep dog with them becouse they can since something wrong befor the owner has some heart problem and they get the meds they need before the problem happines
