I know that the forecast will likely change before next week, but right now the extended forecast is for rain next Monday, Wednesday & Thursday. Three of the 4 days we're going to DLR.

We don't mind rain one bit, and I've been to DLR in the rain before - do you think that rain will help keep Thanksgiving week crowds down, though?

Nope, because the majority if these people have vacation plans that they can't cancel. Maybe they'll leave earlier if the rain is bad? Otherwise go and enjoy, buy a Mickey poncho! : )

I'm interested an any tips you might have for doing Disney in the rain. We will be there all of next week also. Layers and ponchos will be a must but any other tips?

Changing into dry socks and shoes is a great thing, you can take them into the parks and put them in a locker just in case. Or wear boots. Watch the puddles at DL, it wasn't really built with rain in mind so when it rains it can flood easily which makes for large puddles to walk through. I take an umbrella and a coat (not a big fan of ponchos), gloves, scarf, beanie and layer up!! Get a hotel with a dryer so if necessary you can run a quick dry, or just hang your stuff in the bathroom to dry. :)

I think rain, especially heavy rain, will always diminish crowds to a certain extent. The catch is that when the sun finally returns the crowds are even bigger than they would be otherwise as everyone who didn't head to the parks on the rainy days will all be headed to the parks at once.

The crowds will diminish if it is heavy rain or goes on for hours. We saw this in December 2010 - we were there the week before Christmas and it was crazy busy. One day it rained. And rained. And rained. We stayed and walked on Nemo, Space Mountain, Star Tours and more. People do leave. They relax in the hotel.

But, as previously mentioned when the rain stops, the crowds come in droves. So enjoy your rainy time because it may be the slowest times of your trips.

It will keep local day guests away but those who have planned vacations, it won't likely change those.

We were there in Feb this year and had a day with light rain throughout and I was amazed at how many people left. We had the best time ever with walk on rides, low lines and just a bit of dampness. Keep a positive attitude and bring those ponchos! I second the extra socks/shoes or wearing boots too.

Find ways to enjoy the rainy weather! Bring some rainboots and enjoy your little ones jumping in puddles. Although DBF and I only have experienced heavy rains once during our trip, we've found that we really enjoy riding Screamin' in the rain. Also, we encountered extra characters in the Animation Academy building. Pocahontas, Lilo, Stitch, Goofy, and Donald were all there.

We've only done DL in the rain!! It seems to rain on us every time we go!!

We HOPE it rains this time too! It does help reduce the crowds IMO. Esp if it's in the early evening. Many young families decide to leave, get dinner and make an early night of it. Works for us! :thumbsup2 We wear our ponchos, so wet seats on rides don't bother us 1 bit. Hot coffe/cocoa and layers are very helpful too! ;)

I love the idea of leaving dry socks/shoes in a locker!! Good suggestion! Thanks!

I could have wrote this post! We have experienced the exact same thing.
In fact, my daughter had two Green Army Men ducking behind things and looking through their binoculars at her in the Animation building, discussing how best to approach the "enemy". :lmao:

We love Disney in the rain. :umbrella:

As opposed to how it is when it isn't raining? ;) :rolleyes1

LOL, just passing along what I've read here. I don't know personally, as I haven't been to DLR for 2+ years! I'm really hoping we have some dry weather when we head down in a few weeks, specifically because I've read in several threads that even the tiniest bit of rain seems to bring down RSR.

If there is a light rain do they still do both the World of Color and the firework show at Disneyland?
Both are more contingent on if it is windy with the rain. Light rain, no wind, show usually goes on. Rain will stop Fantasmic! as it is dangerous to the cast.

Another positive when it rains..... You can take some amazing photos! Some of my favourite Disneyland photos have been taken right after the rain. Everything shines and the walkways are deserted. I love Disneyland in the rain!

I purchased a poncho per day per family member for our vacation in February, in case of rain (the cheap, Dollar Tree ones).

Rain or shine, we are from the Pacific Northwest, so all is good with us! Although a chance to go in the pool at the hotel would be neato!

If this holds, Tuesday could be pretty wet:

I was looking at weather.com this morning and the forecast was 20% chance of rain on Monday and either partly cloudy or sunny for the rest of the week. I'll take that over the 40% chance of thunderstorms I saw yesterday. Of course I know that can change, but it gives me hope. (Monday is the one day I really don't want it to rain!)
