I was wondering how disneyland was in May? Me, my sister and a friend were planning to go to DL at the end of Aug this year, but due to going of to university and such things we couldn't do it. So we decided to go instead in May. So, what is DL like in May? How are the crowds? What is the weather like?

Thank you all very much in advance for any advice or information.

Well the weather is anything but predictable right now, it was HOT last week, and COLD this week, but I think it is supposed to get back to normal in the coming days.

As for crowds, this weekend will be busy, being a holiday, but next week should be okay. Weekends are just about always crowded, and once school gets out in the beginning of June, the summer season will be in full swing.

If you go next week Tues-Thurs you'll be in for a good time, less crowds, but shorter hours. This weekend and next weekend will be busy. Good luck!

We went the first week of May this year - it was FABULOUS! Weather was warm enough for us (being Canadian we are used to cold) - mid 70's most days - a couple afternoons in the 80's. Kids needed jackets a few evenings, but I got by with shorts and tank tops every day!

As for crowds, the weekdays were great - almost everything was walk on first thing in the morning - we had no concept of crowds till Friday morning - it was an eye opener!! We skipped Saturday and went again on Sunday, which was still busy, but probably not as bad as Sat. We used the FP system whenever we could. I think our longest wait for a ride was about 15 minutes for Astro Orbiter, later in the morning. We did FL on a non MM day first thing in the morning, and the only real wait was for PP - about 7 minutes. Dumbo we waited one round, and many of the other rides were walk ons, even later in the morning. I'd definitely go in off season again!

ETA - d'oh! I see you are Northerners too, therefore weather shouldn't be much of an issue for you either! Guess I should pay attention to where people are from, since the terms "warm weather" are so subjective! We still had snow on the ground when we got home, so to us the weather in Cali was pretty darn nice!!

Thank you both. So it looks like the weather will be nice if we go, not too hot hopefully (which is great, I melt like the wicked witch of the west in the heat). We are planning to go earlier in may as opposed to later, if at all possible. It all depends when we get out of university nest year.

I found May to be the busiest of all of the times I have been to Disneyland (October twice, November, February and March). We were there May 5-9th of this year.

Indy often had a 45 minute wait, while other rides ran around 20 minutes. We were spoiled by 5 minute waits during our last trip in November '06 :)

May is probably better than August though, crowd wise and weather wise.

We always go in May to celebrate my birthday and we always have a fabolous time. We went last week and it was SUPER HOT.

I agree with the PPs on going on early May. The weekends are busier than the weekdays, but if you plan right, they're still managable..

HTH!

I have only been in May once, in 2004. We were actually there memorial day weekend, like now. The crowds werent as bad as other trips, but then again, crowds dont bother me, unless im hungry!! The weather actually surprised me. Our first day in the park we were all dressed in shorts and I had on a tank top, well, needless to say, after the first attraction, I made a pitstop to the bathroom and changed into cute Bebe sweats and sweatshirt. I was so cold. Being from NorCal I expected some sunny Socal weather!!

But I would do it again!!

Early May, after spring break but before Mothers day, grad nights and Memorial day, is good. After about the 2nd week it starts getting busier and busier as you get close to summer vacation.

I was there April 27 to May 2. The day I arrived (Sunday) it was 101! By midweek it was high 60's! So it varied. Crowds were big on Sunday but the rest of the week it was not crowded.

I went last weekend. The only day that I thought the crowds were bad was on Satuday. Sunday I thought was actually kinda slow. Did not have the crazy mad crowds for fireworks or fantasmic. Maybe it was because it was a school day on Monday.

Definitley use Magic Mornings (early entry). I did it Sunday morning. I saw only about 10 people in fantasyland. Walked on to most rides for that hour. Had Mickey all to myself for pictures.

Have a great trip!

Yeah, Satuday was a mad house. We stayed at DCA majority of that day until it closed and went back to DL. But the rest of that weekend wasn't bad.

I actually decided to sleep in a little on Saturday (I was on vacation, ya gotta do it once in a while) and headed over to the park about 930 or so. THe Esplande was a circus. School groups all over. huge lines to get into both DL and CA. I had tickets for the Chivas USA game that night, so I knew it would only be about a half day in the park, so I just kept walking to DTD and went to the AMC Movie Theater and saw Prince Caspian. Dedicided to use my ticket for Monday instead. Best decision I made all weekend I think.

Thank you everyone for the replies! So from what I gather I should take Saturday slow, sleep in, hang by the pool, ect. I do hope we can go earlier in the month, but right now it all depends on when we all get out of school and everyones schedule.
