My husband and I are heading to California next year. We want to do 2 nights in Anaheim and visit the Disney parks. We plan on a hotel right across the street.

How busy is early June for Disney? Are there days better then others?

It can be very busy. First, there's the last few days before the lower level APs get blocked. In past years it has also been the last few days to use up the So Cal resident discount tickets that they've offered. This year the tickets ran out in March prior to the 60th, but with the new fireworks and parade beginning Memorial Day weekend that brought in crowds who wanted to see them. You can try for the days immediately after the AP blocks start, but first, the blocks start when they do for a reason, and second, Disney tends to start in park promotions right about then to draw the higher level APs, so it can be hit or miss.

Another thing to consider is there may be a Grad Night going on the night(s) you are there.

I've gone in June three of the last five years I've gone. (I went once in July & once in August). I like going in June. Grad Nights aren't fun but you can work around them. June Gloom is there but it does clear off. To me June isn't nearly as busy as August and July are when I've gone. The crowd levels were around a 5 according to Touring Plans when we go in June and when we have gone in July and August it was a 7. If you go in early June you can go before the kids get out of school you just have to deal with Grad Nights. The day is wonderful! Nights not so much :(. If all goes well, I will go back in June next year too!

The SoCal Select AP blockout begins on June 10, 2016 so there will probably be a slight bump in crowds the preceding weekdays (Mon to Thu) as those folks come in one last time before they're blocked out for the rest of the summer. Otherwise, as the PPs have said, there are grad nights to contend with (the schedule has not yet been announced).

I used to go the first week of June and really enjoyed it. January is my other top choice, but June has better weather - although there will be more teens out and about.

I went this year from June 20-24 and was terrified of the crowds since it was the week before they blocked out passes. But it wasn't NEAR as bad as I imagined. Sure lines got long, but we took advantage of the extended hours and early morning hours. Disney is amazing at having a lot going on at once so while it's busy, there's plenty to do and the crowd is pretty well dispersed. I loved having the park open so long because it allowed us to take our time and not feel like we had to cram everything into a short day.

Early June is waaaaaay better than July and August. Obviously try to avoid weekends and I would do everything possible to avoid Grad Nights.

We've gone twice now in early June and I like going at that time. Actually, I prefer going Tues-Thurs the week of Memorial Day. Or if I can't do that, the week after that.

Grad Nights are going on at that time and on Grad Night days, it results in more teenagers roaming in packs. We haven't had issues with that. We kind of get around it by going on the big E Ticket rides early in the day...think rides like Space Mountain, Indiana Jones, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Star Tours, Matterhorn, California Screamin'.

I like this time of year for a couple of reasons:
  • longer hours of operation
  • fireworks are scheduled each night
  • weather is nice...but isn't hot & muggy like July and August are. June usually has slightly overcast weather with clouds/marine layer in the morning and it burns off in the afternoon. Not too hot and not too cold. You *might* need a light sweater or sweatshirt but that would only be for evening after the sun goes down.
  • most of Southern California schools are still in session.
What you WILL see is a lot of Utah and Arizona license plates in the parking lot because a lot of Utah and Arizona schools end their school year just before Memorial Day. So on week days in early June (aside from the Grad Night packs of teenagers) in the middle of the day, you get a lot of families from other states who are there on vacation.

On week nights in early June starting about 5pm, you can also see a fair amount of So Cal locals (i.e., people who live within an hour's driving distance to DL) at DL & DCA in the evenings. That population of visitors usually will be there on an AP and are there to have dinner and go on a couple of rides, maybe see fireworks before their So Cal AP blocks out later in June.
