Disneyland in August

My wife and I are thinking about taking a quick trip to DL around mid-August. I am not sure how the crowds are or how hot it is going to be, but I guess that however hot it gets we can always ride GRR. We are trying to make this a fun long weekend. Can anyone help me with any ideas on how to save some money.

1. Stay at a good neighbor hotel

2. Get a hotel with a refrigerator and microwave, and eat in as much as possible. Buy some groceries ahead of time.

3. Take snacks with you into DLR (they allow this within moderation) and avoid buying snacks at the parks

4. Do not rent a car - it is not necessary at DLR

5. Buy your entrance tix ahead of time on the DLR website or thru discounters like Ares Travel - these are much cheaper than buying tix at the gates if tickets are multi-day.

We always go mid to last August and have a blast. It may get warm and busy, but who cares. It is what you make of the situations.

Hydroguy has wonderful suggestions.

- Stay at a good neighbor hotel which has a free continental breakfast and pick up a couple of extra pieces of fruit.
- Bring in your own water bottles as those are never questioned.
- Register for ESPNZone online and you'll receive a 40 point card to use in their arcade. You can also receive first available seating for dinner in the restaurant.
- Use Priority Seating advanced reservations to cut down on waiting for sit-down meals if you choose to eat within the DLR.
- Check out the GCH Lobby for resting/breaks from the parks.

August is HOT during the day and can get kinda cold at night. Stay off property - That time of year the DLR Hotels are EXpensive. USE FASTPASS. The rides that run out of fast passes early are Splash Mountain, Space Mountain Toon Town Cartoon Spin and Indiana Jones Adventure. Do those in the morning. Utilize single rider lines at Cali Adventure for California Screamin and Soarin'. You will move through much faster. Don't worry too much about the wait time at Tower of Terror. The line moves faster than it says. Also, Matterhorn lines move pretty fast too. . .but don't go during parade times. . .

I think most of the time you will find most places more expensive to stay at. I would follow Trey's advice and accept the fact it is busy, but we love the weather.

We are also heading down in August - most likely the last week, over Labor Day. We are expecting crowds, and heat, but can't complain about that!
I definitely agree with the earlier posters about staying off-site at this time of year...we are looking at some of the *suite* hotels, Doubletree, Residence Inns, etc. Larger rooms, free breakfasts and parking (at the Residence Inns), and some of the hotels are much farther than the Paradise Pier and DL Resort hotels.
While at WDW, we always stay on-site, but it just doesn't seem as important here!

Please be sure to use sunblock! We always see so many bad burns, especially with little ones. It cools off in the evening sometimes. You may want to stash windbreaker in a locker. Take time during the heat of the day to have a table service meal. Get a FP early in the day for Splash and GRR and use them later when it warms up and the lines are 2 hours long. Have fun!
