Hello everyone! I am going to Phoenix for Easter, and am planning on swinging over to disneyland for a couple of days. I tried looking on the Disney site for info on the hotels, but could not see pictures that satisfied my concerns. Here is the deal - I have two children who are pool freaks! They have gotten the taste for Storm Along Bay, and now nothing else is acceptable! The Grand Californian looks the best, but the pools do not sound exciting enough. The Disneyland Hotel kind of looks run down, but seems to have better pool options (waterslides). Can anyone help me? Is this hotel okay? Are the pools at the Grand C. more exciting than those at the Wilderness Lodge? All customer service could tell me was that nothing was as nice as Storm Along Bay! I want this to be just a pleasant for the adults as the children. Any comments will be greatly appreciated!
I stayed at the Disneyland hotel for 4 nights about 1 1/2 tears ago and really liked it. I had wanted to stay at the Grand C. but it was booked solid.
The Disneyland Hotel is an older hotel, but it has been renovated and is pretty nice. The rooms are clearly larger than most of the WDW hotels. The pool is nice, on a par with most WDW pools. There is a water slide, but it isn't particularly wild. The pool area is large but does get crowed on hot days. It is a short walk to the Downtown Disney area and the parks. There are several on-site dining options.
We have stayed at both in the last year. If it is the pool you are going for then the DLH is where you want to stay. They rennovated the pool area a couple of years ago and it looks like lots of fun and themed very well. The rooms are large and very nice. I do have to say, however, that the Grand Californian is my most favorite Disney hotel on either coast. The rooms are a little smaller than the DLH but more luxurious. It is attached to DCA and DD and is a wonderfully peaceful place for a short vacation. It is very much like the WL at WDW but a little less rustic. Either are very nice hotels and I would certainly stay at the DLH again but just prefer the ambience of the GC. There is a DL vacation planning video that you might get that has some nice video of all the hotels. In addition, go to www.laughingplace.com and I believe they have a little more detail on the rooms, as well.
I may be completely wrong, but I thought at one time, if you were staying onsite you could use any of the onsite pools. That way no matter where you were staying you could pool "hop" to the Disneyland Hotel pool. Everything is within walking distance out there so I wouldn't consider it a big deal. The GC has the absolute best location of any of them, but all three of them are fairly close together. We loved Disneyland when we went to visit last year. We did not stay onsite because we were saving our points for the cruise. We ate at Goofy's Kitchen in the DH for Thanksgiving. It was just off the lobby, so that was as far as we got into the hotel. Whatever you decide, have a great time.
