Disneyland Hotels - Doubts (UPDATED)

Has anyone stayed in the Best Western Park Place Inn opposite Disneyland before?

We're booked there but I'm feeling a little antsy about it - not entirely sure why. I'm putting it down reading two reports on trip advisor stating that a couple of guests forgot items when they checked out and that they were never seen again. Hrm.

I would love to stay at a Disney hotel (Disneyland Hotel) but I'm not sure I'm comfortable paying an extra $500-$1000 or so to be onsite. Especially since we're a couple of guys and we zoom around everywhere without taking any breaks or much 'downtime'. I figure if I'm doing this then I'm not going to waste a couple of hours in a hotel room doing what I could be doing back home. I need to be out experiencing Disney happiness. - On a side note I buggered my foot from walking too much in Disneyland Paris but I WASN'T going to let send me back to the hotel to rest and hopped from Frontierland to Discoveryland. Damn you physical body, but I have defeated you.

Hojo's is not on our radar because it is more a kid-appeal hotel and we have none.

Is Disneyland Hotel worth the extra or should I shut up and be happy with the BWPPI?

Stayed at BWPPI and don't plan to go back.

It is a further walk but where I like to stay if not on site is the Fairfield Marriott. You don't get swamped with kids and the beds are comfy and it has everything you need. (although no microwave from memory...if that were important to you)

I don't think the DLH is worth the extra. But I wouldn't recommend the BWPPI either.

We stayed there and we're perfectly happy with it, but it was a long time ago. 2005. The location was fantastic, it was quiet, the room was clean and a little more spacious than the average as it had two queens and a sofa bed. Microwave and fridge. The breakfast is served in the restaurant next door, standard, basic continental American breakfast.

The pool was a bit ordinary but we were there inJanuary so that didn't matter to us.

However, it was a long time ago, hopefully someone has been there more recently.

We've booked Fairfield Inn and got a great rate on Webjet but can't review it yet, let you know in 3 months :goodvibes

We stayed at PPH which was great, but again, we got a great rate on it $100pn (back in 2009)

Distance wise I don't think there is all that much difference between DLH, Fairfield Inn or Hojo's.

Yes, I stayed there in February and was very happy, so much so that I’ve booked there again for November. It’s certainly not luxurious, but it does the job and you can’t beat it for location (which for me is the most important thing). Rooms are clean and quite large, the staff are friendly and the little shop inside the lobby is very reasonably priced for a hotel store. The photos on the Best Western website are an accurate indication of what the rooms look like.

we stayed desert inn & suites for our last trip as it's just across from the pedestrian walkway, which we found was closer than the onsite hotels (with maybe the exception of the grand californian, and then only just...

not as many kids there as hojos, and a short walk. free breakfast is pretty meagre, but it's free so we didn't expect much.

for our trip this year we were planning on del sol in (again, across from crosswalk) just 2 adults in a room. have heard good things about del sol, and free internet for at night if you need to write emails/check facebook/upload photos etc.

we were planning a short stay (3 nights) out of our 11 night stay to be onsite. our 3 nights onsite were going to run us approx 1400, versus approx 1100 to be offsite for 8 nights... lol. it was a pretty big no brainer for us in terms of value for $

KCMike posted pictures of Fairfield Inn recently. http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=45539813&postcount=257

He would have been there in the last month of so.

I know that mvf-m11c (Bret) stayed at BWPPI for the CL previews. Can't remember if he had any pictures of the hotel room on his TR. But I know he didn't have any complaints about his room.

I like staying at Residence Inn Maingate and/or Candy Cane Inn.

Thanks PrincessInOz.

We thought about Candy Cane. It looked a bit dated though but the Trip Advisor reviews are glowing.

Fairfield Inn looks nice!

BWPPI also doesn't have a safe for passports etc. Hrm. Need to do more research maybe.

CCI might be a bit dated but the people that run it seem to constantly have maintenance going all year round to keep it nice. But I have to say that it is really a very nice, clean and comfortable motel.

I went back to Bret's TR. He definitely stayed at one of BW...but I don't think it was BWPPI.

Don't write off Hojo's because it markets itself aimed at families with kids - there is a really nice "quiet" pool and the rooms overlooking are well away from the pirate water playground carry-on.
If you check out their website they have a forums section where they go into the ins and outs of different rooms and their pros and cons - more details than you will ever want to know.
We have stayed at Hojo twice and found it great -friendly and v. welcoming to Kiw and Oz DIS-ers

If you ring their reservations number, make sure to ask for "in house" reservations and you get the actual hotel front desk who can help you choose a good room - otherwise you are just dealing with a booking agency who know nothing!

Thanks for all your responses!

How do these hotels compare with what you get at the Disneyland Hotel?
I understand that Hojo's, BWPPI, and Candy Cane etc are motels really. Would you pay the extra to stay at DH?

My other half has been saying that if we're flying across the globe we might as well splurge on the Disneyland Hotel. Not sure if I'm convinced or not..

If you get a super duper special to a dlr hotel - go for it. You get the full immersion of Disney and you are in your own world for a few days. We did this at the grand Californian , one of the best hotels I have ever been too. I wouldn't have stayed if I didn't get 30% off though an already inflated room rate.

We did stay at the Sheraton hotel ,caught the free shuttle every day which took a few minutes and like it too. Just not the full Disney hype though but at a 1/3 the price wouldn't complain about quality or service.

I am not sure though of the motel style ones. Haven't stayed there.

I would splurge to stay at the Grand Californian - the DL Hotel - not so much. It seems nice but not the OMG!!-level nice that I would expect for the prices.

However, (OT) don't miss out on going to Trader Sam's bar at the DL Hotel - it is our new favourite thing at DL Resort (and they don't mind if you drag the kids in too - there is so much great stuff to check out while Mum and Dad knock back a cocktail - they have great mocktails and a good bar menu too

This is just MY PERSONAL preference and everyone will have their own opinions and preferences.

I tend to stay off-site at DLR. The other hotels are so close and cheaper that I always look at the difference in cost and think of how much more shopping money I have.

You can always walk through the DLR hotels and enjoy the dining places.

If you were going to WDW, that is a completely different set-up. I tend to stay on-site at WDW. I did stay off-site for the first time and there is nothing wrong with staying off-site....but the Disney immersion is all encompassing at WDW.

It will come down to whether you think the immersion at DLR is worth the money or not.

UPDATE

Thank you everyone for your advice.

We finally made a decision and we've decided to move from Best Western to the Disneyland Hotel.

We thought we'd do it properly since we've never done this trip before. Yes, it's expensive but it's going to be a special trip so we had a 'bugger it' moment.

So Disneyland Hotel here we come and Disney gets to bleed us dry!

Yay.

I think the other thing that convinced us was the early entry on every day for either DCA or DLP, we can get a lot done. Especially with Carsland.

I hope we made the right decision - expensive but eh.

Yaay! At least you can stop wondering now and look forward to you holiday!

I would love to stay there, but it's just that little bit too much for me to say bugger it unfortunately.

It's a bit like that. We thought the price was over the top but paid it anyway like crazy people :scared1::crazy2:. It means cutting back on things at home for the next several months and not going anywhere! I think Disney somehow invades my computer with subliminal messages when I'm on iTunes 'staaaaaaaaaay with us....staaaaaaaaaaay; come to the dark side, we have Mickey taps'.:scared:

Good choice, it is nice to stay at a Disney hotel, even though it's so much more expensive..we were going to stay off site our first trip but then my husband convinced me that we were spending so much on airfare and going so far, we may as well stay somewhere a bit more special. So of course now I'm spoiled!
