disneyland hotel

Becky... I hope your first visit to DLH coincides with mine... I don't want to be the only DLH virgin! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Don't worry Tia - I think there are still a few of us left on this board!!!! :teeth:

I just had to join this thread after people started saying that staying at the DLH would spoil them or "ruin them for life"! :rotfl: Here's what happened to me!
We stayed for a week at the Sequoia in dead winter in 2004, thinking time after time how wonderful it would be to be able to warm up in the room whenever we wanted and not have to walk or deal with shuttles when we wanted to get back to the room, etc etc, and I could not stop dreaming about the DLH after we got back home. So for our next trip, which was a week Jan. 2005, I decided come what may, we would do the DLH. But I divided the week. Our first 2 nights we were at the Disneyland, and not just the Disneyland - but Castle Club!! It was absolutely wonderful and I don't regret a minute of it. BUT, here's my point - with all my worrying that after two nights at DL, moving to Sequoia would be beyond horrible, it was NOT!!! Even though staying in Castle Club was dream come true, and really really special, we felt just fine moving to the Sequoia for our last 5 nights! I was surprised to feel this way! Rather than be spoiled for life I sort of had a "been there done that" attitude about CC and was fine at our old favorite the Sequoia, which cost as much for the whole 5 nights as the CC had for one! So... just a suggestion for the rest of you. If you dream of DL, do it! It wont "ruin you for life" - it will be a nice experience, but you won't be doomed to have to find the money for it every time or risk not enjoying your trips! Promise! And this year (This WEEK!!! OMG!!! WE leave Monday!!! :Pinkbounc
I decided to book the entire week at the Sequoia, after a lot of thought I decided I'd rather use the money to eat wherever we want, get whatever souvenirs catch our fancy, and whatever, rather than do the DLH thing again. So, sorry this got so long! My point, and I do have one :) is the DLH is wonderful, fantastic, everything everyone said, BUT it's not the be all and end all of the holiday experience, and if anyone wants to feel better about NOT staying there I can even tell you a few reasons why I like the Sequoia BETTER! :teeth:
I'm definitely NOT one of those people that says "its only to sleep and shower so who cares". In fact I think that the hotel can definitely make or break the whole holiday. I'm just saying that as nice as DLH is, there are others that are nice as well AND sometimes just a taste of the best is all you need - sort of like one bite of that really rich cheesecake filling you all up.... (oh wait.. that never happens... :rotfl: does it.... oops, off topic!! )

:sunny: :sunny: I have to admit I agree with JodyB. I would LOVE to stay at the DLH It looks fabulous but the money I save by staying at one of the cheaper hotels means I can spend three nights there and have that little bit extra to make the holiday special. When you are on a budget for these things it can make a huge difference to how much you enjoy yourself, I think. :cool1: :cool1:

Jody, I'm not worried that it will be that bad!!! :teeth: But I still don't want to visit DLP and wish I was staying at the DLH again, even a little bit!! At the moment I love whichever hotel I'm staying in - and I'd quite like it to stay that way!!!

Totally agree Jody that is why I'd like to try all the hotels :)

Becky that's exactly how I feel. Anyway, to me it's all about being in the park, once you're through the gates, it's the same for everyone, no matter what hotel you're in. So far I've never spent time at any of the hotels I've stayed in, not even for breakfast, we always have it in fantasyland. If it wasn't for the fact that I want to try all of the DLP hotels, I would be quite happy to stay at the Santa Fe and spend the extra cash on Disney goodies. :goodvibes

I too would really like to try all of the hotels and am getting there slowly. I tend to be a bit of a drama queen-don't really believe I'm ruined for life :rotfl2:

I had the holiday of a lifetime last year at the DLH, really fantastic and would always stay there if I could afford it. However, this year we had the "holiday of a lifetime" at the Sequoia Lodge!!! It is all about the parks, and I kind of agree with Jody about the "been there done that" attitude. I didn't keep walking past the hotel wishing I was staying there - although I did have a couple of pangs - mainly at the distance factor. It certainly doesn't spoil you for the other hotels.

What I do think though is that the Disney hotels as a group spoil you for offsite ones. Don't make the mistake I did which was to book one night at the Movenpick Dream Castle after 4 nights at the DLH. Talk about a comedown!!! We all felt awful, like we had stepped out of the magic completely. I could see that the Dream Castle was a beautiful hotel, but the atmosphere was totally missing, and I don't think I would have felt that way at another Disney hotel. We're going to Florida 1st time in April and we didn't even consider an offsite hotel, despite the big price difference.

We were really glad we went on-site at WDW, especially when you see how distant some of the supposed 'five minute drive' villas and hotels are. You could easily be in a villa 30 miles away. For this reason we've booked DLH for our first visit to DLRP next pril, and intend to book the Contemporary when we go back to WDW.

To get this topic a little bit up I will post one of my favourite pics of the hotel!
