We are surprising the kids whith a Christmas trip And staying at the DLH! So excited, this is our first time to stay at the DLH. We usually stay off site. I am just not sure, how the extra magic hour works? Does the monorail station open for the extra magic hour? Any tips would be greatly appreciated!!

I don't believe the monorail starts running until official park opening

yeah made my first trip to DL this past February....and to say i was surprised at what the "monorail" is there compared to WDW would be a giant understatement....its more like a ride then a form of transportation

Since you are staying on site you get into the parks and hour early each day with the days alternating between DL and CA. When we stayed there at the end of August we made sure to get to the security check point at the Esplanade about 30 minutes prior and were usually near the front. Once through security you then wait at the actual entrance to either park. Once you are into the parks you can get in only so far before there is a rope that you wait until the actual start of EMH at "rope drop".

The monorail opens when the actual regular park opens. We rode it once at park opening and arrived 30 minutes prior to get through the security checkpoint for the monorail station. At DL it is more a ride than transportation like at WDW. Its a nice way to get back to the DLH at the end of the day or when taking a break!

I hope you enjoy your stay! We loved the DLH!!

Make sure everyone in your group has their room key with them. To get in for the early hour, you need your park admission ticket AND your room key to prove you're staying on-site and eligible for EMH.

I'm assuming this does not include children? Or will they have a room key too?

The hotel usually has a fairly large sandwich board sign with upcoming EMHs and at which parks. It's also printed on a sheet they give you in your packet at check in. They seem like they want to make sure their guests know about it, and they always make a point to tell us about it at check in.

Also, beware the monorail!!! We conveniently "forgot" how it worked at DL, after a great trip to WDW staying at the Poly. Some nights, we just rode the monorail around, looking at all the amazing views of the Grand, the Lagoon, MK, the Contemporary and the Mary Blair murals. So, we wanted to do a roundtrip monorail ride at DL, just to kill some time, relax and enjoy the sights. We eased over to the DTD Monorail station from our hotel rooms, kinda still a little groggy from our midday naps, rode the monorail to Tomorrowland and... they kicked us off!! It's only round trip if you start inside DL, not at DTD. We kinda forgot that? But they said we could get off and get back in line to go back to DTD and we get off and I swear the line for the monorail was so long it spilled out past Autopia. It had to be over a 30 minute wait at least. So, we ended up having to walk from Tomorrowland all the way back to DLH!! At least we weren't wearing our PJs!!

Both times we've been to DL we've stayed on site. Our kids each got a room key, but we never had to show them for EMH. My DH carried all of our tickets and his and the little's room keys, but he would only give them his room key along with our tickets and they never asked to see any of the others, not even mine.

We decided to just have all 5 room keys at all times, just in case. Sounds like sometimes they do check for everyone's room keys.

I wonder if when they scan one room key, it tells them how many people are on the hotel reservation so that they don't have to scan every key for a large family. That seems like a good way to save time getting people through the turnstiles with minimal chance of people abusing the system.
