Just wondering if anyone has stayed at hte Disneyland Hotel? Good or bad? Anyone stayed with a family of 5? And has anyone booked normal rate and then requested a free upgrade with no issues?
Cheers

I haven't but there are plenty on the Australian side who have and loved it. You can also wander over the main boards and read what people have said. Just don't ask about free upgrades or you'll get flamed. It's a touchy subject with some people.

I've stayed at each of the on site hotels now - my favourite is actually Paradise Pier. It has the advantage of being the cheapest of the three, the rooms are pretty large, and feel larger due to their light and bright decor, and if you cross the road and cut through the Grand Californian lobby the walk is much shorter than from the Disneyland Hotel. Downside would be the pool is pretty plain (although the kids loved it anyway, especially the waterslide).

Disneyland Hotel is nice and has great pools, but I was surprised how far the walk is to DL. And the walk back after a full day in the parks is even longer!

The time I stayed at Grand Californian we got a free upgrade (my sister asked, I am too shy for that kind of thing), we had booked a standard view room and got one with a view of the pool and DCA. But that was 2 years ago, and I believe now that the occupancy rates are much higher at all 3 Disney hotls, so upgrades may be harder to come by. Doesn't hurt to ask though.

havent stayed at DLH but at GCH...the location of DLH is awesome, at the end of DTD and a 4 min walk to the gates....it has just finished a huge refurb and we called in and had a little look, pool looks amazing and it has a great feel.....as for asking for upgrades.....do it, cant hurt and who knows you may get a bit of pixie dust....I think the aussie disboards are a bit diff to usa..we like to see what we can get free!:thumbsup2

We have stayed twice, the first time just before the start of renovations and en again just after they finished. I love it. We like to walk up to start the day and monorail back. The walk through Downtown Disney is always great with musicians playing. We have only ever stayed in a 2 bedroom suite because we have done a 3 generation trip and like the space. The pool is fun with a great kids space. Goofys kitchen is Great for a first morning breakfast and allows the kids to begin meeting characters in a quiet environment.

The princesses read bedtime stories on a tv channel. The magic just stays.

We've stayed there but have 4 kids so we booked 2 rooms so can't help you with five to a room. The rooms were pretty spacious and we had a glorious view. I love being able to just go downstairs to goofy's kitchen for breakfast. The disney touches are cute and we quite enjoy the walk through down town disney but it is a long way. I'd say it's as far as the Howard Johnson but much more scenic. My favourite hotel is still The Grand Californian but I doubt I'll be able to afford to ever stay there again. :( Oh and we go at christmas time and dh loves hot egg nog that they sell in disneyland. They sell the same eggnogg at the cafe at the Disneyland hotel so that was a bonus :)

We stayed after renos, loved it. Family of four though. We had an eighth floor (from memory... something like that lol) room with a view out over DL so we could see the fireworks with the music piped in through the TV... awesome. LOVE the light up headboards and the large sized beds.

This time, we are booked to stay at Paradise Pier, and waitlisted to stay at GCH villas (depending on whether anyone has points to rent/there's availability). I wouldn't be sad about any of the three!

I stayed there in 2009 before the renovations and liked it. I've just had a girlfriend who is a family of 5 stay there and they had to get adjoining rooms for some reason. They loved it though.

Cheers for the Feedback. I think we will book it - get abit of the Disney feel whilst we are there. My DS saw the slides and fell in love with it - even though it will be Nov, I haven't told him it might be abit too cold. He might get lucky with a warmish day. But then being a kid, it is never too cold to go swimming!
We will be nice and close to Goofy's for breaky on their birthday, so I like that option.
