How long of a walk is it to get from the hotel to the parks? Is there a monorail or other means to get there easily? Also can you get early entry on your check in day?

People estimate that the walk takes approx. 20 minutes... although I don't think it really feels like a 20 minute walk, because essentially you are walking through downtown disney, and there is a lot to look at :-) The monorail station is much closer to the hotel, probably a 5-10 minute walk, it will take you from the downtown disney location to Tomorrowland station in Disneyland.

As to using early entry on your check in day...I am not sure about this but in order to get the early entry you must present your room key, which you would not get until you check in...and since early entry is super early, I don't think that would work out. ENJOY your stay it is a MAGICAL hotel!

Obviously it depends on how fast you walk, but for us (medium speed walkers), it's 2 minutes from the DLH to the Monorail (which goes only to Tomorrowland and back) and about 8-10 to the esplanade.

In my opinion, yes some of the other hotels across the street may be closer in feet...but it they are still farther away from the magic, since when you stay in a disney hotel you never leave the magic for one minute!

I am also a fast walker, so it doesnt take me long at all to walk from one end of dtd to the other...I am used to staying in Garden Grove, so any disney property hotel is CLOSE in my opinion :-) Looking forward to my stay at the DLH next month.

I thought of switching my upcoming res to DLH so I read some reviews online and they weren't very good. What's worse than a magic-less hotel is paying for magic that is less than magical, apparently.

That is funny, I was just looking at reviews a couple days ago and they all seemed really good once you realize what the people are actually complaining about!

I get so caught up in reading online reviews before going to the hotel or travel destination...The funny thing is after reading all the awful reviews I show up and come to find out that most of the reviews were WAY wrong, and blown out of proportion. For example, when I was looking at DLH reviews I noticed some were simply unrealistic...such as expecting a free breakfast with the price that they are paying etc. etc. If someone is upset because they spent a lot of money on the hotel and then they didn't offer them a free breakfast, then it seems to be on the part of the reviewer, for not doing the proper research and for having expectations that are simply not possible. The biggest complaint I see about the hotel is the price, and obviously it is ridiculously overpriced....no hotel room on the planet is literally worth up 300 bucks a night. I think what I am trying to get at here is to take online reviews with a HUGE grain of salt...because for the most part, experiencing something and forming your own opinion is 100 x better than reading what someone else has to say online.

Well, even the Ritz gets a bad review every now and then :rotfl:

Having said that I have stayed at the DLH twice so far this year, as a matter of fact got married there last year, and I have to say both times have been excellent.

My DH and I will be staying there next month for our fall/just the two of us/early anniversary trip.

We find the service top notch, and the rooms very, very clean, and comfortable.

Every hotel can get a bad review, and at times maybe even more then one, but, I can say from having stayed there, it really is a wonderful hotel, very full of Disney magic, and for us, worth it.

Hope you give it a chance one day.

This is interesting. I knew some off-property hotels were closer but I didn't realize so many were. I thought the Fairfield was bit of a hike but it looks like it's closer in feet than most Dis rooms?

Yes indeed! We have stayed at dessert in a few times because it is soooo close to esplanade much closer than DLH.

That's what it took us, with a stroller, 20 minutes seems too long. We also stopped at Haagen Daas for Pete's coffee on the way.

I felt it was totally worth it, loved staying within the magic. We stay in med/high end hotels for business travel and felt DLH was comparable. It's not a bargain, but it's not supposed to be, and we went in knowing that.

Everyone has a different set of criteria. I'm price-sensitive, it has nothing to do with 'affording', it's just in my genes. I've stayed at DLH and had poor service there and I've cruised Disney and found it overpriced overall (though Castaway Cay was amazing). I've stayed at several WDW properties. The parks, to us, are worth the premium. Most of their restaurants and lodging, to us, aren't. But we use the hotels to sleep and aren't into characters, pools or branding. :)

I loved staying at the DLH last year for race weekend. My sister and I were there for just three nights and we had a blast. The location, cleanliness and size of the room were excellent. We especially loved the twinkly light/ music headboard! Have fun on you vacation whereever you choose to stay....DL is a magical place.

I was wondering how far it was as well because people said DLH was far. So there is a little short cut by the ESPN Zone. Also the Adventure Tower is closer. I don't think it's that far but my children are 8 and 11. The monorail is is a three minute walk. I had my snail paced son time it. Lol but under Mickey's Sorcerer Hat is the way to go!

I wish I had that Disney feeling at work.
