I know this has probably been talked about before but wonder if you can help

I know the DLH is undergoing some refurbs at the moment - I think someone said to the rooms. There are so many different room types I was hoping to choose a room away from building work. I tried to select a preferred or a pool view but only standard view rooms are coming up for our dates. If you have stayed there recently how did this affect you?

Also this years Unofficial Guide talks about a resort fee to cover parking, wifi etc - does this apply to ourselves who won't have a car?

Thanks

They are working on the pool area, so that is a construction zone right now. That would be your "view" if you went right now. There is one pool open (they typically close one for remodeling, and the other is open), but when we were there in November most people avoided it because of all the construction the other pool (which is right next to it). It just isn't relaxing to hang out there with all of the very loud outdoor construction going on.

Here is a video of the construction. Here is a recent picture of the construction

I believe they are finishing up with the Wonder Tower refurbishment right now (they could be done, I don't want to give out incorrect info)--and are starting the Magic Tower. These towers are all in the same basic area with the pools in the middle of them. This is how you can get a pool view from any tower. It is just that with the remodel, the pool view isn't what you would consider a relaxing vacation view!

You actually want a "preferred" room--because that is code for a refurbished room. These rooms are beautiful and everything in them is new (from carpet to bathroom to furniture. It is worth it to pay for this upgrade, but not the view upgrade--so a standard view in a preferred room is actually what I would recommend, unless you can get a downtown disney/themepark view in a preferred room. If you get the downtown disney/themepark view then you are not looking at the remodeling in the pool area at all. The Dreams tower is the completed tower and it is totally remodeled throughout. You can request this tower, but may not be placed there. We always request Dreams Tower (seems to be the favorite here)--but only get it about 60% of the time.

Here is a video of a preferred room:

And yes, you have to pay the resort fee (for internet and parking) whether you have a car or not. Most high end hotels have this--at Disneyland or anywhere else.

The magic tower is the one under refurb now. Wonder and Dreams are done. So request one of those and hopefully you won't end up in magic.

And yes, resort fee is gone, so no extra fees if you don't bring a car!

Do you pay to park if you are going to a restaurant (Goofy's?)

We stayed in the wonder tower one month ago. Our end of the tower was complete but they were working on the other end. I didn't hear any construction noise at all. They did a good job of keeping the noise and mess to a minimum.

Resort hotels recently did away with the resort fee, which included parking and now charge $15.00 per car for parking, free Wi-Fi and no resort fee...so no car, no fee.
