We will be staying at the Disneyland hotel when we go next year for the 50th but it's been a few years since we'd stayed there and I had a few questions for all the people in the know! :cool1:
1. Mom has a bad knee and I was wonder what would be the best tower to request that is closest to everything? (ie parks and restaurants and DTD)
2. What is the transport to the parks, when we went last they had a tram, or do you have to walk? If it is walking, what is the average walking time to the parks and DTD?
3. Can you use your room card to charge in the parks and DTD and will they deliver your packages to the hotel for you too?
Thanks ya'll for any and all help to my questions! :grouphug:

1. can't help
2. it's a "walking resort" now, no tram available. It may help to cut down on walk time to take the monorail from Downtown Disney into Disneyland but that depends on which part of the park you are heading to and how long the wait is.
I would say walking about 15 minutes for an average adult walking at an average to brisk pace. Since you have an "injured party" (and again, depending on crowd level) it could take you from 20-30 minutes to walk.
3. You can definitely use your room card to purchase things from the parks and downtown Disney. Yes, they deliver to your hotel. Not sure if the current policy is to deliver directly to your room or if they deliver to the front desk of the hotel and you pick it up from there.

I love the Disneyland Hotel and it's where I want to stay for the 50th too, but realize that there are off property hotels that are techinically a closer walk if that is a big concern. Otherwise perhaps renting a wheelchair for your stay if only to help your mom for longer distances or if she'd appreciate the chance to "rest" while in line (wouldn't have to sit in it the whole time).

1. I don't know that any of the towers are going to make much difference with as the parks being at the other end of the resort. You might save 1/10 of the walk in one tower over another to the parks.

3. A slight clarification on charging on room key. It doesn't work the same as WDW where your key is used for the charge. You actually get a little slip of paper to use for charges instead of your key. DL seems to be behind in the times vs. WDW on this one.

Sierra Tower is slightly closer to Downtown Disney but not so much that if you are assigned another tower you should worry about it. Stayed there last week with my elderly, disabled mother who is a slow walker (plus had two walking toddlers) and it never took longer than 15 mintues to walk to the park. If you are worried about this, have you maybe thought of the Grand Californian? It is definitely closer. Paradise Pier is definitely a longer walk which puts that out of the running. Hope this helps you with your planning!
