Disneyland Hotel or Hotel Californian

We are going to Disneyland in a few weeks and heard that Disneyland hotel is under construction. Is this true? Should we still stay there or move to Hotel Californian?

I believe construction at the Disneyland Hotel is now complete but haven't been in some time, so can't 100% confirm.

The only construction reports I’ve seen were the slides both of which are now open. BTW, it’s the Grand Californian

If you can afford the price of the Grand Californian, that is always our first choice.

I like both hotels, though I prefer Grand Californian. It's more my style of decor and you can't beat the closeness to the parks. But I love many things abut the DLH too, and if I were taking kids I might lean that way for the pool and water slides. So, I think it really depends on what you are after for an experience since I don't think construction will be an issue.

Grand Californian is nicer, and closer to the parks with its own entrance to to DCA.

DLH has Trader Sam’s, though, and I’m a sucker for a Tiki Bar.

We really like the Grand Californian. Stayed there about 4 times. But the DH is also great. Been there 5 or 6 times, but not in recent years. Can't go wrong either way.

One major way to make up the savings lost on your tickets is to stay off site, if you are open to that. At DLR, staying on site is not as necessary as it is at WDW and it does not come with as many perks. Some off site hotels are technically even closer to the park gates than the on site hotels! We like staying at DGC. The walk thru DTD is a nice distraction tho. Either way, hope you have a great vacation!

DH and I LOVE the GCH, but the final bill always elicits my DH’s tired but fave go-to...walk the corner or sell a kidney?! Lol!! Still, if you can swallow the price, it’s location is really worth it. You will not believe how much can be done just steps from the parks.

GCH is nicer but not as overtly Disney. Can't beat the closeness to the parks.

DLH is more nostalgic. I believe just one of the pool slides is closed currently as far as construction.

Love them both but if money is no object and you don't come frequently I would pick the Grand.

I used to put them as even, but our last stay at Grand Californian a few weeks ago was SO GOOD that I will have a hard time going back to DLH. We had a deep discount, though, so I didn't have any regrets. I love the renovated rooms at GCH so much and the beds were very comfortable. The new pool bar is great also! I wanna go back!
