Christmas tree catches fire at Disneyland hotelAssociated PressANAHEIM, Calif. -

A 35-foot Christmas tree caught fire in the lobby of the Disneyland Grand Californian Hotel early Wednesday but nobody suffered serious injuries, a fire official said.
The hotel's sprinkler system kept the 3 a.m. blaze in check and firefighters were able to quickly put it out, said Maria Sabol, a spokeswoman for the Anaheim Fire Department.
The 745-room hotel in the center of the Disneyland Resort was at full capacity with about 2,300 guests, said Rob Doughty, the resort's vice president of communications. They were evacuated to three locations in and around the park, and hotel officials hoped to get them back into their rooms by 7 a.m. Pacific Time, he said.
Guest Lee Crice of Phoenix told KTLA-TV that he saw the top six feet of the tree were ablaze as he fled through the hotel lobby after being awakened by the fire alarm. Television footage showed firefighters spraying water on the artificial tree and gray smoke wafting through the cavernous lobby.
About 18 firefighters responded to the alarm, Sabol said. The cause of the fire is under investigation, she said.
Two guests were treated at the scene for minor injuries and released, Doughty said. One complained of a strained back and the other of stress symptoms from the evacuation, he said.

glad there were no serious injuries.

Okay, I have no doubt it wasn't fun to be evacuated from your hotel in the middle of the night, and while I sympathize with the strained back, who else smells a lawsuit based on "stress symptoms" ?

they were stressed b/c they found out it wasn't a fresh tree and that is so unDisney like.

How in the world did an artificial tree catch on fire?

Workers were changing the lights on the tree, and when they plugged it back in an electrical fire started.

Glad everyone is ok - with the hotel at full occupancy it could have been very bad - glad it wasn't.

Signs of stress could be something as simple as the individual was hyperventilating and had a rapid pulse...not necessarily surprising if they had to walk near or could see the burning tree (I am guessing a dried out tree would burn pretty dog gone well!). Just because they were treated isn't necessarily mean they are lawsuit happy! Fires are scary things. Many of the guests were probably disoriented and scared.....but it sounds like an accident, not negligence. With the drought trees are quite dry this year. Good reminder for all of us to check OUR trees!

But wasn't it a fake tree anyhow? I don't think Disney uses real trees since it takes so long to put them together with the different themes they have and everything.

Yup, I was thinking the same thing. I'm sure Disney will get a fair number of stress-related claims from this one. I'm also curious about the details surrounding the strained back. This should be interesting.
