Disneyland Half question

Hi! First time posting in this area.

I started running for the first time in December. With my running and my 24HR fitness trainer, I have lost 40 pounds :yay: and completed a couple of 5k races here in Vegas last month. I have Pat's Run in Tempe next month, which was my original "running goal".

I am trying to set a new goal to push me for something down the line. I was thinking about the Disneyland Half over Labor Day. I do about 5 miles now on my long runs, so I think it will be achievable. Here is my silly concern...

I have only ever run with my iPod. It is how I have learned to pace my running. I was going to register for the half, but saw the part about NO HEADPHONES. I tried to watch youtube videos to see if people use them or not, and it looked like they were. Just wondering of past experience and how serious they are about that rule. I usually only run with 1 ear piece in. The other option is one of the caps that have the speakers built into the band.

Any thoughts, experiences, ideas???

Thanks for any help anyone can give me with this.

Hi RENThead! Welcome to the wish boards I am fairly new here myself! Good Job on the weight loss :thumbsup2 that is very impressive! I don't have any experience with DisneyLAND racing but I have done quite a bit of DisneyWORLD running, they also say that you can not wear earphones but I would say 75% of the people I have seen have had some kind of earphone in and from what I have heard as long as you dont have dangling wires that are really obvious then you should be fine. Although you might find, like I did the first time I disney raced there is so much going on and so many things to look at, band/music/DJ's playing and people encouraging you that you won't even bother with them (I took them the first race and haven't bothered ever since, but I cant run at home without them or I would die or boredom!!!!) I think most people use them for the "dead" areas on the race when you are on blacktop and not in a park but I found I didnt even need them there (this is obviously completly your choice whether you take them or not but just letting you know its not bad if you don't even if you have never run without them) but like I say if you are certain you cant run without them just keep the wires neat and tidy I have never seen anyone have any problems :)

I really hope you choose to do this race Disney races are AMAZING and a 1/2 marathon is a great new goal (I just finished my first 1/2 and have my first full in Jan!)

Good luck with all the training and I hoped this helped a little, maybe someone who has been to DL can confirm what I said :confused3

See you in DL Labour day weekend:cheer2:

Welcome I'm glad you've found us here!

The no headphones rule is for safety reasons. As far as I understand it has not been enforced for these events.

As Kirsty has said, if you take them you probably won't really use them. There are so many people in the event and many friendly folks who are interested in conversing you won't be alone and it is fun to chat. You don't have to stick with any one for the entire event, just move along and strike that next conversation.

Thanks for the info!

Now that USATF has relaxed the headphone rule, I was hoping that the races would as well.

I am just a little worried about being able to not "over run" at the beginning due to the excitement vs. keeping enough in the fuel tanks for miles 11-13.

Of course, I have heard that the first 3 miles is more stop and go picture taking time, so that only leaves 10 miles to "run". I will probably bring my iPod and use my Nike+ to track my times, and see how it goes. That way I have it if i need it as the race gets going or I get off pace.

I think I will take the plunge and sign up. Thank you for the posts and the PM's I got. I am very happy I found this board. Will be making sure I check in over here more often.

See ya all Labor Day weekend!!!
