My work is putting together a cheering station on the route for the disneyland half. Just a place for my employees to get out and cheer for the runners and make a little noise. Looking at locations right now. A couple of questions...

1...Where in the race would you like a little fun pick me up?
-the middle between the parks and Angels Stadium
-after Angel's stadium on the way to the finish (the last 3 miles)

2...Anything you would want there in particular?
-fruit
-candy
-pretzels
-margaritta's

3...Any other suggestions?

Of course we will be representing the "Wish Green" so you all can find them. I will be running, but my team is excited to get out there and cheer everyone on. Would love any ideas and suggestions from those that have done it in the past.

Thanks!

Wow! What a cool thing to do! Cheering any place on the course would be greatly appreciated, but the stretch between the parks before the stadium would be awesome. Pretzels work for me, but again, anything would be nice.

There's an old thread somewhere that had cheering hints, I don't exactly remember where it is, but one thing I know most people don't appreciate hearing is "you're almost there", other than that any cheering is great to hear. It's funny how people you don't know cheering can put a little extra energy in every step. Be sure to tell your co-workers they rock!

That is so awesome! I would say either location would be good. The back 5K after the stadium would be good. Maybe between Mile 11 & 12? I know there are people around the tunnel, but outside of that I can't think of any. Also outside the stadium, along Gene Autry drive would be a good place. There' sthe water stop, and I think that is it. On the front half b/w the parks and the stadium, there are some groups, but I can't remember any between Mile 7and 8, again, besides the water stop.

Oranges or pretzles would be good. Can you do margaritas? That is fabulous! Don't runners use salt to stay hydrated? It's perfect! :rotfl2:

Tell your co-workers they are awesome and will be appreciated. Once you decide, you have to come back and tell everyone so we can look out for them!! :cool1:

the two things I remember from my races were pretzels at the DL Half, and oranges and licorice at the WDW full (thanks WISH people).

We were talking about it at work today and trying to figure out where it would be easy for them to get to on race morning.

Kinda leaning towards Gene Autry outside the stadium. Or in front of Gardenwalk in Disney Way. I will let you all know when we finalize things.

If anyone else has ideas, please feel free to send em!!

That is awesome!!! A very big thank you to you & your co-workers!!!! I will really appreciate seeing them out there!!!! :cool1: As far as snacks....I like pretzels, twizzlers, or oranges. But will appreciate them being out there with or without snacks. :thumbsup2

I won't be running the DL half, but just wanted to say what a neat thing for your coworkers to do! I know I always appreciate groups cheering for me during my runs. It can be just the thing to get ne through the miles:).
I do have to second the PP on the "your almost there" thing, I would rather hear "keep it up" or "you rock" or something like that;).

Very cool idea! The stretch that I recall being a drag was the few miles BEFORE we got to the Honda Center. That was pretty dreary. Ugly and few spectators. That is the doldrums of the race for me. The Honda/Angels/exit stretch was "easy" because you're lifted by running through the stadium, then when you leave you know you're in the home stretch.

The "almost there" thing is funny; at the Pasadena Half in February, at around mile 1, there was a guy on his front lawn with a sign that said "You are NOT almost there!" :rotfl2:

That has got to be hands down the best sign or cheer I have every heard about on a course! :rotfl2:

I think we are gonna end up at the last area after the stadium on Gene Autry area. I totally agree about the area between the parks and the Honda center, just not sure about parking, logistics of that area, as it is pretty land locked. I am gonna drive the route again this week to see if I can come up with something for that area.

Thanks to all for the help. The team is excited. We even just got in new tees as part of our current promotion that we will have to wear. we weren's planning on it, but it works perfectly.

That is so Awesome! I know I can use the pick-me-up anytime I can. I look forward to finding your co-workers and saying hi as I limp by :lmao:

I agree that any cheering is a good thing! Thanks so much for doing this. :goodvibes

One of my favorite signs last year at DL was a big picture of Dory from Nemo that said "just keep running".

I'm partial to Twizzlers but would appreciate anything. When I asked my DH he replied "chocolate is always good"

Thanks again. I can't believe how close to race time we are.

May I request HOT Chocolate, HOT Tea, HOT Coffee, HOT Apple Cider, HOT Soup, HOT Dogs, HOT Tamales, HOT... oh wait, that was for Florida.:rotfl2:

For California, typically you'd need ICE, ICE, ICE, and hey, how about some ICE! :lmao:

Post a photo of your team's t-shirt, so we know who to look for.

Ooohh! Good call on the ice. :thumbsup2 They had that in June at the RNR San Diego and it was great. Towards the end, I just want something cold. Even a little itty bitty ice cube would be great!!

Make a sign that says...

"Pick up the pace, Disney is running out of medals at the finish line!"

or

"Run like you do down Main Street when the park opens."

That will get people moving faster.

ONE FREAKIN WEEK TO GO!!!!!!!!!!

My employees are all set to be cheering at Mile 11ish. I bought all of the neon green poster tagboard from 2 different Stores. It should be very hard to miss them.

They have been making signs with everyone's names on it along with general signs of encouragement. I make no promises of what they will turn out like, but any support is good support and everyone needs an athletic supporter! HAHAHA

We will gave licorice and pretsels out, but also a stash of oranges and chocolate for any WISH members that want a special pick me up. Just ask them for it and they will get it to you.

Not sure whatelse they will come up with. The theme in our store right now is " Run Unleashed...Hunt or be Hunted" so our them for the morning is 'Yell Unleashed..Cheer or be Cheered". :cheer2:

Have fun everyone and let me know if there is anything else that you want at the 10-11 mile mark and I will try to get it there with them.

Travel Safe and Run Healthy!

Am I the only one who wants the margaritas mentioned in the first post? After 10 miles, that sounds really tasty to me. :)

My team has been reading the thread to get ideas for signs. They made one today that says "free margarita's ahead" above it says "dont you wish there were..." in little letters. HAHAHAHAHA

I would take apretty much, whatever you had to offer at mile 10-11!!

(would take the margartiat also, if you had one, hahahahah:rotfl2::rotfl:)

THANKS soooo much for you and your co-workers for doing this and I will look out for them and give them a cheer also!!!:cheer2::yay::thumbsup2

Loved the signs, at least the ones I took the time to read...........I was still worried about finishing on time.

Absolutely loved the spray mist bottle!!!

Thank you to the woman with the bottle!!
