Disneyland Half Marathon 2024

I have a massive throwaway collection, but since I’m coming straight from WDW on *not* Southwest I won’t be able to pack as much of it as I’d like. I’ll probably tie a second jacket around my waist for the flight, and rely on a Mylar blanket for the rest. My costume already involves gloves. I’ve heard the corral waiting time at DL is a lot less so 🤞 that’s ok. I’m heading from DL to Oregon for a few days afterwards so I’ll have winter layers with me, which I’ll need anyway if it’s below 60s because I’m the coldest person alive.

Inspired by the SAFD in the Marathon Weekend thread; how do y'all pack for DL in the winter? What sort of weather should I be anticipating here? Never been to LA/SoCal before so entirely unsure what to expect.
I keep trying to figure that out too..
Layers seems like the key... so I am soo going to over pack. 🙃 I am hoping less rain this year. I know in Colorado it has been a more dry year so far and CA seems to be on the same track i think.. so hoping it does not rain like it did last Jan. That was unusual. I do know though what some consider cold is not cold to me, so I am not worried about that as much. I am going to be keeping a close eye on the weather forecast and add or pair down depending on the weather. I have way to many options I want to wear... lol.

I live in California. Be ready to watch weather reports the days before for last minute changes and bring options. A few days before the last January Disneyland races we had torrential rains (ran the Hot Chocolate race and longer lengths were cancelled, there was flooding, etc). It is cold rain too - not the East Coast warm stuff! We wore long sleeve shirts under our running gear for the Disney race that year (5K and 10K), long pants, and warm hats for pre-race. However, it can be mild - enough that I successfully had an outdoor beach wedding one year in early January. Rain is not uncommon though in January (and it's predicted to continue to be a wet season). Even living here, I have plans for layers and am not sure exactly what I will wear race day. But, fingers crossed for no rain race weekend.

same here. I'm jumping from Orlando straight into LAX, so it's like packing for 2 trips. But then, I can do laundry at WDW, so I don't have to pack as much?
I usually check two bags when I fly to WDW on SW just because I can… I want everything for the full, which means a toaster, yoga mat, stick… 😂 I don’t need those for the half at DL (or my trip after that) so unless I find a stranger flying back to DC that is willing to take an extra suitcase I think I will end up mailing a box of stuff back. These are the trip planning logistics I love though and I keep having to hold myself back from starting my packing piles already!

I saw some pics of the merch today where you would go if you are purchasing. Maybe it's been showing for a while and I just now noticed. I bought the jacket/tee bundle and that is the one thing that still doesn't have a picture. It's a big mystery !

Yeah the pics been on there for a bit but some have been mystery's for a bit too. I just bought the Dumbo pins bundle though... after the figment pins where sold out before all of club level even got there I decided to bite the bullet and buy the stupid bundle. I do not need 3 pins... I just want the medal one pin. I hate that they make you bundle it. But seeing the craziness of Wine and Dine and Figment I decided I just do not want to risk getting no pin.

You could always sell them on eBay and maybe pay for the whole bundle that way :)

I do not think the not medal pins will sell that well and I do not want to turn into the thing I hate. lol.

But my son said did say he wanted one of the pins now... so at least there is 2nd one done... he likes the one with dumbo on it.

So I guess if anyone wants to buy the purple one from me at the price Disney charges for the pin individual let me know I can save it for you and you can have it. I can give it to you are at the race :)

Thank you for bringing up the D23 tour! Id never heard of it before.

Serves me right though for being off the boards for a couple weeks though! 10:30 wasn't an option, so I booked 9:30. Just in case anyone hasn't spoken up for that timeslot, I'm renting a car and would be happy to give someone a lift.

Hello,

Does anyone know about volunteering for this event yet? I searched in the website and couldn't find info on DL, only WDW; I know the system has changed. It seems they are using paid Hoag clinicians for the medical staff, but I'm curious about the regular volunteer staff.

If you go to the bottom of the runDisney home page, in the section "Exhibitors and Volunteers" you can see other race links to volunteer. I don't see the Disneyland races listed and don't know if it's just too early, or too late. But, you might watch that spot.

Good run this morning! Getting closer and real!

Just saw delayed opening on Sunday 9AM with 8:30 EE. Not that I’ll be there that early… lol… but my family might. Only DCA has EE on Saturday but both parks open at 8. What can we dissect about race course from that? Haha!,
I love that we are thinking the same! I’m running the half so I was checking park hours this morning and noticed the delayed start. The race starts at 5 am, I’m assuming the final corral starts by 5:30-5:45 am. The balloon ladies finish in 3.5 hrs so I’m assuming by 9 am. Historically the Disneyland races have had the first 3-4 miles in/around the parks. Fingers crossed that maybe there are more miles in the parks, hence the delayed park opening 🤞

Also noticed no EE at DCA on Friday or at Disneyland on Saturday so maybe the races spend the second half of the course in the park that isn’t open for EE.

Loved to hear other theories

Agreed! My theory is the 10K goes into DCA first and winds around there and then crosses over to DL before coming back out to the finish.

Agree that it puts me hopeful for some more park time- maybe 6ish miles? I was thinking the balloon ladies would go off closer to 6 but that would still have them done with 6 miles of park by 7:40ish.

Fun to have a tiny bit of info haha

Just found Mickey’s Magic Mix listed at 9:30 pm on race weekend! It wasn’t listed on the daily calendar but when I found the list of activities it has a date/time that night. Hooray!!

Yay! I’m glad there’s at least some nighttime entertainment happening, even though I was hoping for Wonderous Journey… but I’ll take what we can get at this point 😅. Still bummed about World of Color.
