I've heard you can buy guide books on Disneyland and books on Disneyland's history. Does anyone have any that they would recommend reading in preparation for our first ever trip to DL?

I am currently reading the Disneyland Encylopedia and love it! :thumbsup2 It has listed every ride, attraction, and food place that ever existed. It is good for history and for seeing what is there now. Of course DLR is always changing so unless they update it, it will be missing a few things like the new Tinkerbell Hollow. But still, it is pretty up to date. You will find things in there that you might not see otherwise. Ex: the names on the store windows on main street, the lamp in the window over the firehouse, the petrified log, etc.

For a guide, I like The Unofficial Guide to Disneyland. It is humorous to read cover to cover and has every restaurant described, hotels in the area, and how scary the rides are for different ages.

The Disneyland Hidden Mickey book is also a fun one to bring with you to the park. :)

I just read the unofficial guide, and it was really good. I also have the Birnbaum Guide, which is much less critical but has great pictures and helps get DD excited about the trip.

I like the Disneyland Passporter. It is a really good guide, it was written with help from Disneyland junkies like the people on this site. As a matter of fact that was where I found Disboards they have a list of resources to get information and this was one of them.:goodvibes

Love the Unofficial Guide. As a note, try the library before purchasing. There are many, many guidebooks for DL & WDW at our library.

For our first trips I went to the library and got the most recent Unofficial guide and Birnbaums. I liked them both for different reasons, and having them from the library made it really easy.

Just be sure to get the most recent guides of each...don't go by old guides, and remember that the info will be *at least* 6 months older than the publishing date, so take everything with a grain of salt.
