Disneyland frugally with 6 kids

I always pop my own popcorn in the hotel room and bring it along, and we usually get Cold Stone on Harbor. What are Tiger Tails and how do you make them? Are they chocolate dipped pretzels?

Tigger Tails are carmel covered marshmallows on a stick, covered in orange chocolate with dark chocolate "tiger" stripes. I wrote an article about how to make them at home (with step-by-step photos), so if you type "How to make Disneyland Tigger Tails at home" into your search bar, my article is usually the first on the page. I'd include the link here but I don't think I'm allowed to.

I looked but can't find it. Could you PM it to me? They sound yummy

I will say this about Anaheim Plaza, many rooms do not have a microwave which is a P A I N!. When I drive, I have a small microwave that I take with me so it's no big deal, but come on, why should I have to schlep a MICROWAVE with me on vacation?? Heck even the cheapo Motel 6 in Buttonwillow has a microwave! But the mini fridge was brand new and it was nice to have a new fridge. I really like AP the pool is huge

You can get a room with a microwave at AP, but unless it's a super slow time, it'll cost a few dollars more per night. I don't drive in; I fly in. I have bought cheap $ 20-30 microwaves from Wal-Mart, and when I leave, I leave it with a note that the maid can have it. It's still cheaper than overpaying for a room anywhere. These cheapie microwaves are the same size and style as the ones at Hojo. Good enough, and if I'm staying 5 days that's $6 a day to have a microwave. I've occasionally even taken it with me to Vegas if we go there, and then it ends up costing me cents per day because we usually go for 2-3 weeks at a time on vacation. Now that's frugal! ;):thumbsup2 My thinking is why should I pay $139 or more to stay in a place that has a microwave, if I could go someplace without one for $50-90 a night and buy my own microwave for $6 a day or less on sale.

Post the link! Please. :) I think the rules are that you aren't supposed to post a link to a site that you have a financial interest in? Most BB are like that. If all links were blocked/banned, this website would not work as efficiently. There would be no point in using this website, we could all just google the info we needed.:goodvibes

They sound wonderful. PLEASE POST :worship:

Mugglemama you can post it!!! PLEASE share!!!!

sorry it took me so long to respond, i didn't get a chance to check the boards until just now. sorry!

i will try posting the link here, just so long as everyone knows that because i authored the article, i do make a WHOPPING $2 for every 1,000 page views i get, lol. so i guess technically i do have a financial interest in it, although the amount of page views i am likely to get from this thread wouldn't even add up to a full penny.:rotfl2:

http://***************************/article/904083/how_to_make_disneyland_tigger_tails.html?cat=25

it seems the company that published it has changed it's format recently and now i'm noticing that not all of the step-by-step photos are included. hmmm, i will see if i still have them on my computer and if anyone needs them, i'll post them here.

enjoy! and fyi, i didn't mention anything in the article about adding orange extract to the orange chocolate because one, i didn't know that DLR tigger tails were orange flavored, and two, i ate one of those chocolate oranges once and made myself sick, so i can't handle chocolate and orange together anymore. i've heard they taste yummy with or without! we obviously made them without, and they were really tasty.

ETA: i just tried the link and i guess DisBoards disabled it. sorry everybody! if you type into your search bar, "Make Disneyland Tigger Tails at Home Associated Content Madison", I am SURE you will be able to find it.

I found your article very easily by googling. also, if you click on the picture that shows the completed Tigger tails, it allows you to click to the other pictures you are referencing.

oh good, thanks for letting me know. that's how it used to be and i'm not sure why it's not working for me at the moment, but i'm glad it worked for you. :)

Does the Hojo have adjoining rooms? The reason I ask is that I also have a large family and we are looking at suites. Looking at the Hojo website, Max capacity for the biggest room is 5 persons (We have 6).

I am still looking for a decent hotel (and Pool, because the kids are water rats) that can accommodate a family our size.

Thanks in advance!

Adjoining rooms would just be rooms next to each other, so I'm sure they have that. :goodvibes I think you were really wondering if they have connecting rooms which would have an interior door connecting them... I believe they do, but I don't think they can be guaranteed, so you'd have to be prepared for the possibility of one adult staying in each room if they weren't connecting. I suggest calling directly and asking for in-house reservations to ask about whether connecting rooms can be guaranteed. :hippie:

Also, on the HoJo discussion boards, there's a response here indicating the KidSuite allows 6: http://www.hojoanaheim.com/boards/viewtopic.php?f=44&t=757#p3254. But I know the website shows 5 max, so there's a discrepancy there! Maybe Lorealle from HoJo will see this here and clear it up, as I've seen this question on a couple of different threads recently.

You are correct.. meant connecting rooms :-)

I may just call Hojo Tomorrow and find out...

Thanks for the clarification and help!

I found it. Now I want to make them. I had one last month, I didn't notice it tasting orange.

maybe i was misinformed, then? i'm not sure, lol. as i said, i've never actually eaten the ones made at disneyland. the ones we made at home were really yummy, although they were crazy sweet, so after about 1/3 of the tail, my kids were each like, "ugh. i don't feel so good". so, next time i'm going to make mini ones, so that they can enjoy them, without going into a sugar coma! :lmao:

I had a couple weeks ago, it definitely tasted orange. :) Not overly orange, just a hint of orange. :)

so you dip it in caramel, let it cool, dip in orange let it cool drizzle it in chocolate. Is that the basics?
