Hello! First post on the Disneyland board. We are veteran WDW visitors (go every year) and have never been to Disneyland. My husband has a reunion for his Marine unit in San Diego in March. I was thinking about taking my two daughters (14 and 8) to Disneyland via the train. At most we could just spend two days there. Is it worth it? Where would you stay for one night if it is? Appreciate your input.

two days is worth it you can totally do both parks in that time, a bus may be a better option not sure how long the train takes since its only 90 min-ish driving.

I think it's worth it as well.

The train station is near the Angels baseball stadium and it is a short taxi ride to a Harbor Blvd. hotel. Our first choice is Camelot Inn as it's close to the crosswalk to the main entrance plaza.

If you wanted to stay on property, the Grand Californian and DLH are great!

Absolutely. We often go up for just a day. It's only 90 minutes via car (without traffic).

On site, we stay at the GCH. Off site the Anaheim Plaza Inn and Suites.

Used to live in Southern California and took the Amtrak to and from Anaheim to San Diego. It's a lovely ride and inexpensive and if you are so inclined you can have a glass of wine while the gorgeous scenery passes :drinking:

You could take a taxi or Uber from Anaheim Angels stadium to your hotel. Obviously we love the Grand Californian, but if you want budget try the Candy Cane Inn or Fairfield Inn across the street.
Enjoy!

In general the Disney properties are over priced and most people stay off site here. Many off site hotels are closer to the parks than Disney's properties. But do try to stay somewhere close by that has its own free shuttle or stay at a place within a very short walk to the park on Harbor Blvd. March is spring break time here so depending on when you come, the hotels can be a bit pricey and fill up quickly so you really want to try to book a reservation long before you go to have a lot of options and also so you can cancel without issue if something comes up. And yes it is absolutely worth it to go to Disneyland!!

depending on what hotel you're staying in something like luxbus might be another option, as it picks you up from a san diego hotel and drops you off at an anaheim one. kinda like uber or a taxi, given that it seems like there will be 3-4 of you it may not be cheaper...but those big busses can be more comfortable than a taxi or a van.

the only real snag would be the night time entertainment (paint the night, fireworks and world of color). might only be running on fri/sat/sun in march...might be less about how many days, and more about how many/which nights.

I do live in San Diego, but i've never taken the train. I don't think the drive/train would be more than 2 hours. and yes, so worth it!

I wouldn't say Disney properties are OVER-PRICED. They're just in a different price range.
Since you have a lot of time until your trip I would watch for discounts if it's important to you to stay on property. We always stay at The Grand Californian and just love it. But my cousin whom we travel with often to, goes back and forth and stays off-site some trips to save money. When they stay off-site she likes Candy Cane Inn and Fairfield Inn.
