Disneyland for the Disabled

Thanks for the insight.... I also have blue eyes but I'm not so fair skinned...

I have worn contacts for the last 20 years but have been having eye irration problems in the last five, so much so I have gone back to nothing or glasses unless going out. (my eyes are only -2.0). I have also started having closeup problems and can see better closeup without glasses now. I think the closeup thing is just my age (40 something) but the irration thing is a mixture of lens quality and cleaning solutions. The solution I used for 15 years never caused me a problem but then they took it off the market and since then whatever I used makes no difference to my problem. Unfortunately about the same time they took my lens type off the market also, conspiracy theorys abound as my with my old system I used to get six months out of $20 worth of lenses, now I'm lucky to get 3 months (wearing them a lot less) for $50.

I have some people telling me that Laser was the best thing they ever did, I have others who have regretted it. Guess I might wait a little longer...

The last time we went to Disneyland was in 2003 (i think). We had a very disabled girl (blind, wheelchair, etc..) Sorry to say it wasn't good! I think they had 2 maybe 3 rides she was able to go to the exit. On one ride they asked if she can get out of the car in less then 10 seconds if not she can't ride I told them that this is her favorite ride, I think you can wait (they alway had before). I'm not sure what happen to Disneyland for disabled people. WDW is GREAT. If you go to Universal Studios Hollywood they are great too. I hope you have better luck. At City Hall there was a few of us letting Disney know this isn't right! I hope things are better now!!

The friend who had it done at the same time has NO complaints. My SIL considers it to be a miracle. She tends to say gaggy things like "the morning after I had it done my alarm went off, I opened my eyes, and I could actually see my husband without putting my glasses on, I cried!" Note: that's only gaggy b/c her husband is my brother.

Those who have good reactions are in the majority, I think. Alas, you don't know until you know, you know?

I think the most important thing is that you will be wearing sunglasses forever. Since you are in contacts you might already be doing that, but I had left my contacts behind, so never wore sunglasses, and I just didn't realize...stupid of me, really.

Her wheelchair alone should have gotten her into the accessible entrances (in DL that generally means the exits...DCA was made post-ADA and so I've heard the accessible entrances aren't always the exits over there).

She got to use the exits, but only on a couple of rides.

And if I remember correctly they no longer have passes to pick up at City Hall. (They still do in WDW)

They said that all of the rides are accessible, unfortunately that doesn't mean a disabled person can wait that long. There was a lady at City Hall trying to explain that her son can't wait that long, he would start yelling or kicking (he was in a wheelchair too) Disney just said sorry.

"That ride" was Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. The sad part is she loves rides!!

She isn't coming with us on our next trip to DL. We'll just take her to WDW next time, WDW treats them so great.

They have GACs at DLR too. I have read that there was a period of time when they didn't, but they do now again.

I think maybe you went at a weird time in their history...things have changed (back).

I can confirm that they DO have GAC's at DLR. We received one for my son earlier this month while there. And he did ride Big Thunder, Matterhorn, Peter Pan - all through the exit.
