I wish Disney would open a Park in Australia.Lets try and get the ball rolling by seeing how many people would support it and how we can get it to happen.

Unfortunately it will not happen, at least not for decades as Australia has already had its chance to have a Disneyland park and blew it.
Whilst I do not know many of the details, in the 1990s significant initial steps were taken including having plans drawn up for the Gold Coast area and making representations to the state and federal government. Despite this it was Hong Kong who ended up with the Disneyland park that Australia could have had.
For Disney it was probably the right decision as Hong Kong ended up making a very bad deal with Disney that has given Disney unexpected bargaining power for years. Further Australia has turned out to be a powerful visitor base for the parks where they make the real money, originally Disneyland but increasingly WDW.
Now that Disney have Hong Kong Disneyland the existing expansion plans and second park there, and more importantly Shanghai Disneyland Resort, will take priority for at least another 10 - 15 years.

can we have it on the west side of melbourne please

brisbane already has enough fun parks

what do we have ?

luna park :rotfl:

I agree with DVCAustralia we are a powerful visitor base for Disney and from what I have also read a feasibility study was not in Disney's best interest, Melbourne Sydney Gold Coast were all taken into account and in recent years Disney have been looking at Sydney to build a resort most likely that will not be built either. Nice to dream we had Disneyland in Australia it would save the 13+ hours of flying . As for the Brisbane fun parks I would not waste my time the lines are so long and customer service is going down hill, to be honest I would rather spend a day at Six Flags Magic Mountain than waste my time at Movie world or Dreamworld

If you watch the media, you will notice that Disney reps come to Australia every couple of years. Most often it is to QLD.

It is unlikely that we will get a park in the next few years. China is getting their park and the word is that South America is next. Of course, I personally feel that Belconen in ACT would be the perfect place for the next Disney park... :0)

Always keep hoping. You never know when the magic is going to come.

Negotiations for a Melbourne Disney Wildlife park were happening about 18 months ago but fell through at the 11th hour.

If they were to put a park here it would have to be in a place where it's roughly the same temperature year through, which is why there are so many theme parks in QLD, and the US resorts are in Southern Cali and Florida.

I often fantasize about them buying out a whole heap of farmland not far from my town and buying one there. I'd love to work for Disney :lovestruc

I had no idea we had so many close calls. Do you think it would have the same feel to it? I've never been to Disney in Hong Kong and I often wonder if it has the same magic. I'm happy if they choose the Gold Coast. I can't imagine living just 45 minutes away from a disney park. We don't even have Disney stores here anymore.

A Disney park here would have a different feel in that it's not in the US. But it would still have the 'specialness' of Disney.

Take for example, DL Paris. I thought for sure it would be totally different. But it was just as magical, just a bit unfamiliar (oh, and there was a lot of stuff written in French and my dd, dh and I enjoyed the Lion King in French with English songs. weird!)

Each Disney park throughout the world has it's own thing that makes it stand out. I am sure it would be the same if we got a park here. Hey, they could have a Rescuers Down Under dark ride (okay, maybe not...). :goodvibes
