Disneyland Food Favorites?

While I would definitely say the food is better on average at Disneyland than at WDW, I can't honestly say much of it is "good" by my standards. At least at Disneyland I wasn't irritated by paying a lot of money for the food. I understand I'm in a theme park and the food is going to be expensive, so I don't mind as long as the food is at least palatable. None of the food we had in WDW in January (a seven day stay) would qualify except for the popcorn and turkey legs.

That being said, we had two good meals at Disneyland this week. We were there Monday-Wednesday.

Taste Pilots Grill: Whoah! What the heck happened here? Its like somebody put an actual decent burger joint in a theme park! There must be some mistake. Seriously, I've had burgers at Croc's Bits & Bites, Village Haus and here. Oh and Disneyland Hotel room service. I don't have a clue how the food ops work at DLR, but they need to fire whoever runs those other places and put the person who runs Taste Pilots grill in charge. I had the delicious Chase Pilots Cheddar Burger or whatever it was called, and my wife had the Bleu Yonder burger. My daughter had the adorable little miniburgers on the Mickey plate. Everything was delicious, and I don't mean by theme park standards, I mean by eating out standards. Yes, I could do better at home, but I'd take these burgers over burgers anywhere else. And the criss-cut fries, which I don't usually care for, were yummy as well.

Carnation Cafe breakfast: This was better than Denny's, so I was happy. The servers were very friendly as well, which is a plus, and they actually got a 15% tip out of me, which rarely happens. Quick, good food.

Other than those two, I love the Wetzel pretzels and the Churros, and my wife and kids love the turkey legs.

I agree, I used to work at WDW and never liked the food.

I'm surprised. I keep hearing how the food is better at WDW and I am inclined to believe it. It is only recently the food got better at DLR. Years ago we would go to the DLH just to find something a little different. I've never been so I can't say. I would love to go check though! :rotfl:

WDW has more land to build state of the art bakeries, butcher shops, and warehouses. They can buy in bulk for a larger clientele and store it where as DLR has little room and some kitchens date back to the 1950' and 1960's. Older buildings and small kitchens at DLR limit the chefs.

I do think DLR is improving but I still think the burgers at DL are lousy compared to the brand new Taste Pilot Grill that has the modern equipment and larger kitchen. the hot dogs at Coke Corner are better than they used to be. I am dreading getting a burger at DL as Taste Pilot has me spoiled as does the pizza joints and Ariel.

I agree about the burgers. It seemed like that used to be all you could find at DL before DCA opened, and I never thought they were that great. I haven't had a burger at Taste Pilots so can't say. I did have a chicken sandwhich and the meat was small. At Whitewater Snacks the chicken sandwhich was big and much better. If I go back to TP I'll have to get a hamburger instead since it seems like they do that better. Had a burger at Hungry Bear in Jan out of desperation because it was the only uncrowded place. It was just ok, not very exciting at all.

if I lived near Cafe du Monde I would probably skip it too, HOWEVER, they are Mickey shaped at CO!))

Hold on... stop the presses.... MICKEY shaped??? ::MickeyMo See... for that reason alone - I MUST try them!!! (What can I say? I'm a slave to the Disney marketing genius!!!)

So is "CO" Cafe Orleans??? I'll have to add that to my ever growing list of "must eat"!!!

Yes, Cafe Orleans. There is a picture of them on the beignet thread. They have Mickey sprinkles too! :goodvibes

We had a burger at TPG last weekend, it was good. It was actually much much better than the burgers at Hungry Bear. I get the chicken when I'm there simply because it's smaller than the bun. I pull the bun off around the chicken and eat it from there. :) DBF had the bleu cheese burger and I had a few bites, it was very good.

My two "must" snacks are:

1. Frozen banana
2. Churro (preferably at night - I don't know why, but I love a churro in the evening)

I have to agree with you here, especially the frozen Banannas. I can't get enough of those things. :thumbsup2

The corn dogs from the Little Red Truck on Main St are THE best.

I have to have at least one coconut macaroon each trip. For these make sure to get them early, because they are hardly ever available for the last trip back down Main St at the end of the night.

The Tigger Tails from Pooh's Corner. They are marshmallows dipped in caramel, then dipped in orange chocolate, with a drizzle of dark chocolate down the top. Very good, but very sticky!

DH loves the peanut butter fudge from Pooh Corner.

We also like eating at CO and Blue Bayou. We tried RBT too on our last trip and they turkey sandwich from there was very good. We put the BBQ sauce on it and make it even better! The salads from there looked very yummy too and were HUGE!

Does anyone know if tigger tails and fudge are gluten free and soy free? In theory they should be within my 98% soy and 100% gluten free requirements.

I don't know about the dietary stuff...but those tigger tails are for the serious sweet tooth. Or serious white chocolate lovers at any rate. On our last trip myself, boyfriend, and kids 15, 13, 11, 11, and 8 were totally grossed out by them, none of us couldn't get past two bites. (note to self...purchase ONE new thing instead of SEVEN before taste testing!)

Then again, I'm always amazed how many people seem to like them!

Hmm, I would think they are both but they could be made on machines that use both gluten and soy so you should ask before you try. :)

DD9 and I LOVE the Tigger Tails, BUT we have to share because one is too much for 1 person. :) We buy a couple and eat one pretty quickly, then we save the other for later. :)

I do not worry about made on the same machine as I might as well take the risk and live life to the fullest. Dinner time and I wish I had taste pilot's criss cross fries.

I have celiac and they only tell you about some foods at the restaurants not about all the candy and fudge.

We just returned today from our trip and I about had a heart attack when I went into the bakery in the early afternoon and they told me they didn't have any. :scared1: I almost broke down right there... :sad1: They told me to come back at about 6 and they may have some them. To my great relief, they did!!! :lovestruc :worship:
