My family is wanting to plan a trip for 2024. Some of my family won't be able to go during off peak time because they work for the school district. While I had some other trips planned I would rather go with the family than a solo trip. We are between two weeks, the first week of January and the third week of March. We are not sure what would be the best in terms of crowds, etc. I personally know that no matter the week, the parks will be very crowded. I figure that the weather would be about the same. I am looking at the point charts and VGC has this week in the highest point category and then VDH have this week in the lowest point. Do you know why this would have the most discrepancy between the two resorts?
Anyway, I know that regular members cannot book VDH until July so the first week might be sold out by then. We just want to have a couple of back up plans as in this initial phase of planning the dates/plans are very fluid. I just got back from a trip at VGC and loved it so I would not mind staying there again, but not sure if the high points is something I am wanting to do.

No one knows for sure; my guess is that they appear to be radically rethinking how they do DLR DVC categories now with VDH in the mix, and we should expect starting in 2025 the VGC one to begin to converge to the VDH one.

I think it’s highly unlikely that the new owners will sell out studios any date prior to the opening of booking to all.

RunDisney in January may be the one exception.

thank you for that. I have noticed there were many owners who took part in the magical beginnings so there is not that many points for the upcoming year in circulation

I would honestly be surprised if the VDH points chart stays super low for that first week in January. That week is pretty much always the last week of the Christmas holiday decorations, food, ride overlays at DLR. The VGC point chart is high for that week because it’s still a pretty high demand time at DLR.

Both of your date options will likely be super crowded as many of our school districts still are on winter break the first week of January, and the third week in March is spring break for tons of our local districts. That said, springtime is one of my favorite times at DLR with so many gorgeous trees in bloom and of course the ducklings! 🥹😍

VGC has always had a varying early Jan period. When Jan 1 is a Sat. Jan 2 and after is in low season, When Jan 1 is any day from Sun through Fri, Jan 2 through the Fri or Sat after Jan 1 is also in the high season. Since Jan 1 is Monday in 2024, Jan 2-6 is in the high season.

VGH's 2024 point chart just leaves all of Jan in the low season. Why is unknown but notable is that the VGH charts are showing that its high point Christmas season starts earlier before Christmas than VGC. Moreover, a major difference between the charts in 2024 is that VGH has seven seasons while VGC continues to have only four. A possibility is that DVC may be intending to convert VGC's point chart into a seven season point chart in the future.

Irrelevant. If new buyers are selling their first year's points back to DVC, then Disney can pull the corresponding rooms from inventory for cash bookings. Also it's the 2023 points that are being sold back. There's nothing prohibiting people from using their 2024 points for a January reservation, even borrowing if their Use Year is later in the calendar.

That said, reservations tend to be easier to get when a resort is actively selling since inventory exceeds owners. But Magical Beginnings wouldn't have any positive impact.
