How does the fireworks show at Disneyland compare to that at Magic Kingdom? We've got only one day at Disneyland and am trying to figure out if we should try to watch the show. Have seen Wishes at MK several times and really enjoyed.

Second weekend in Feb., 2015.

If you only have one night, I'd say see Fantasmic... Actually I'd say see WOC lol, but I think it's down for refurb when you are there, which is a huge bummer. At least from the Fantasmic viewing area you can see the fireworks too... Not an ideal spot, but kind of a two for the price of one deal.

DL has four fireworks shows and is in transition to the 60th anniversary celebration in May 2015. It is hard to say exactly which fireworks show - if any - will show in Feb. The Holiday fireworks will show into the first week of January. Usually DL shifts to Remember Dreams Come True which runs until May. But the rumor is that RDCT (which was developed for the 50th anniversary) is gone for good. There will be a brand new show in May geared around the 60th. But what happens in Jan-Apr? I do not know.

HydroGuy gave a good synopsis of what is known (or not known) at this point about fireworks during the winter/early spring. If it was RDCT, I would say it's worth seeing the show. However, without knowing which show you'd see, it tough to say whether it's worth it or not to go.

I generally agree that if you only had one night and could only do one DLR nighttime show, I'd go see Fantasmic!. Aside from the issue with the viewing area (which may or may not have improved with the implementation of FP in mid-December), the DL version of F! is more impressive than the DHS version (to me).

From 1-7-15 to 5-14-15 (on nigts that fireworks are scheduled, usually fri-sun is rumored to be showing the old "Fantasy in the sky" fireworks to allow installation of the new 60th anniversary show infrastructure. Also Fantasmic! will be running nightly through 2015 due to no WOC until 5-15-15.

"Fantasy in the Sky" firework huh? That would be interesting if they did this. I don't really remember how the fireworks were before "Remember" so this will be like a new(ish) show to me.

I can't seem to find many videos of Fantasy in the Sky, but the ones posted seem very very short. I would hope that Disneyland would have something better than that.

As for seeing Fantasmic!, if you've seen it at WDW then I'd just see whatever fireworks is showing. Yes, the DL version is better with lots of action scenes, but there's not arena so you'll need to find a spot on the cement for about an hour before the show (using the FP).

If Wikipedia is to be believed, it looks like Fantasy in the Sky was last presented in 1999. So it doesn't necessarily surprise me that there aren't very many videos of it. My understanding is that this show will be used as a "bridge" to get them through to the 60th anniversary show. The rumors are that they're installing new equipment and/or upgrading equipment, so perhaps they cannot use a lot of the effects that would be used for things like RDCT, which would explain why they have to go back to a "simpler" show like Fantasy in the Sky.

Personally, I would watch the Disneyland fireworks over Fantasmic! and WOC any day!!

On our first trip 3 years ago, we did all 3. I LOVED the DL fireworks we saw as Tinkerbell flew back and forth during the show! Fantasmic! is very good, but we've seen it many times in WDW so once was enough in DL for us. We went to WOC but I was not able to see ANYTHING because I'm 5'4" and everyone stands for this. I was very disappointed.

Fast forward to the recent trip 3 weeks ago. We saw the DL holiday fireworks twice. It was so windy that it couldn't be shown 3 nights that we tried. For the first time, we ate dinner outside of the Plaza and watched from there. The next night we stood by IASW and LOVED the view and the projections on the building. I think that only happens during the holiday fireworks but, not being a DL regular, I don't know.
We did not try to see Fantasmic! again. And, we were able to watch the winter version of WOC from a balcony at the Grand Californian. THAT was the best way for me to see that, and the only way I will try to watch WOC in the future!

Just my opinion :) I love the fireworks!! (Illuminations is also a favorite of mine in WDW)

It will most likely be "Fantasy in the Sky" on weekends in February which is apparently a pretty basic fireworks show.

So for me, if I were only going to watch one thing, I'd probably choose Fantasmic. But it's usually possible to watch both in the same night, I think.

In February, they may be running Fantasmic every night. And they may be testing out a fast pass system for it.

I don't understand the logic for possibly bringing Fantasy In The Sky back temporarily. There is no nostalgia factor here. That show ran way beyond its time. There have been several shows since FITS was put out of its (and our) misery. I'd rather DL just stop fireworks altogether until the rumored new show is ready.

If you have a choice, then choose Fantasmic. You can't go wrong with that amazing show.

The logic is that it doesn't have fireworks from a bunch of different locations like Remember and other shows. So it's easier for them to put on as a 'filler' while gearing up for the 60th fireworks. I'm sure if they didn't have a show at all, way too many people would complain. A simple show is better than no show.

As far as nostalgia, my husband is actually kind of excited to see it again since he saw it when he was younger.

Has it been confirmed that WOC will be closed until 5-15-15 ?

Thanks for all the responses. We saw Fantasmic in 2013 at Hollywood Studios. Is the Disneyland version worth skipping a ride or two to see? Wasn't particularly impressed by the Disney World version.

Fantasmic is better at DL than at DHS. I will not watch F! at DHS anymore after I saw it again last year.

Seeing F! usually means skipping more than "a ride or two". Is it worth it? It depends on your priorities and how much time you have.

I'll always skip a ride or two for nightime spectaculars. It's kinda why I went to WDW so much. Three parks with a huge nightly show every single night. And now even the AK will get a show. For me, even though F! is not nearly as good at WDW, it's just part of the day.
