WOW! Did anyone else go to these? Or have you been to them? THEY ARE INTENSE. They line you up and spend *literally* 3 seconds looking at you before they move on to the next person. They don't tell you who or what they are looking for. Nothing. I, quite obviously, did not make it to the 2nd round, but wow. And there was this guy that I thought they would take FOR SURE because he LOOKED like a Prince, and they didn't. Anyone feeling my pain?

Oh, and some of the most beautiful girls I have ever seen in my LIFE.

Yeah I know how you feel. My first, and last for a while, was the fairy auditions since they wanted ALL ETHNICITIES. And since I'm a short Asian, it's harder for me to get cast as a face character. I even know a Hispanic girl who got cast for Mulan! Talk about crazy or what. The only thing I'd be able to be is a fuzzy, but it's nice to not have something covering your face all the time.
So I was going for Silvermist, since that's the only one I could potentially be, so when they didn't pick me, I wondered why. I didn't get mad, I was just curious. Then there were 2 girls that were by me trying out for the part of Iridessa (the African looking one I believe) and one girl had light skin while the other had dark. Since I've seen her pic, Iridessa looks like she would have light skin but both got picked! I really have no idea what they're looking for. Sometimes when you see a face character, they look nothing like the character at all. Those crazy casting ppl!

There was another post on this and they said height matters more than "looks". You could be a dead ringer for Belle, but if you are too short or too tall...NOPE!

Aren't all of the princesses really short?

I had a friend who actually got to be a fuzzy. She wasn't too excited about it because she really wanted to be Tink, but she said she had a pretty good time at it. she did say that she did see the politics around the place, but then again you do at any place you work. It was hard though, as you guys have stated! Its crazy.

Wow, that's interesting to read about. Makes me wonder what exactly the criteria are.

A fellow CM of mine is in the Disney College Program at WDW, and she had originally tried out for Belle. She made it to the 2nd audition, the one where she had to sing, and she failed. So they put her in Main St. janitorial services!!! Talk about a change of job description!! She really enjoys what she does though, but now she is kinda like a princess if you think about it, she is Cinderella before she is a princess. Hopefully someday she will get to be Belle.

What's funny is that they do change the characters that they play sometimes. We met "Jasmine" one time at DL & she was soooo nice to my DS (autistic), walked with him all the way down main street & rode the carousel with him. Then, on another trip after that, we were walking out of the Tower of Terror store and here walks Belle, who greets my son by name and asks if he remembers her. Of course, he just thinks she's Belle, but she is the same girl that was Jasmine before! She asks us to walk with her to Animation, where she was going to greet people, and so we did! :)

Wow. Now THAT is what I call pixie dust! How incredibly nice and awesome of that CM! :wizard: The thousands of people they meet each day, and they remember kids' names! Hope you gave her a good comment at City hall! :thumbsup2

can't always be looks. My sister-in-law and brother-in-law knew a guy that played Prince Charming at Disneyland in Tokyo and they said that they were shocked because they thought that a prince would have to be good-looking and although nice, he was not that good looking. :scared1:

There are lots of requirements. Obviously face is minor, compared to resume. I had a close friend that started her extensive Disney career in CP as a friend to Dale.

Height is also a big one. The girls who are friends with Mickey and Minnie have to be under 5'2''. Chip and Dale's friends are over 5'3''. The guys who know the Queen of Hearts are 6' and so on. You don't see many Pinnochio, Dumbo, or Jiminey Crickets, since those friends are under 5' - in the 4'10 range.

Then there is the matter of the ability to stay in character and not break it. Add on acting ability, dance, miming (fuzzy) or vocal talents (face) and you see the picture. You have to also be able to handle yourself in any situation - good or bad.

FYI - There was an interesting article from the LA Times that someone posted a link to last month on a guy who was friends with Jack Sparrow. He portrayed him as a hobby before he went to the audition. Had the full costume in his closet already. He described some of the rough situations you face as a character and how strictly things are run.

My experience goes back some time now, in San Francisco, Ca. casting was being done by Dl. for an MC, and for actors that would be placed in roles for a show that was already being planned. Well, I saw one young woman who would have been perfect in my opinion as Snow White, unfortunately she was not called back, she was quite upset about it.
I was in interested in the MC and acting roles, there were four judges they were straight faced, the judge on the left end of the table looked as though he was bored to tears, (I had not even begun to open my mouth yet ) then I began my (a one minute comedic monologue was required) original comedic monologue, and then back out the door, no one from my group had been called back,(you were grouped together, to wait to be called, then seen individually) then when we saw two very tiny girls that looked like each other, who had been called back, we had all agreed, that no wonder we were not, for none of us looked anything like them. I am 5 feet 8 inches, the two girls were maybe 5 feet, if even that, they were very petite, me, I am not. Oh well, it was fun, exciting, I know that I had a good original comedic monologue even if none of the judges reacted to me, although I do recall having seen some glimmer of life in the one judge for at least a moment, during my routine, thank god, because for a minute there, I thought I might have to call 911 for they all seemed so dead to me. I was in my early twenties at the time, however now, I would probably be too old, maybe not, however, I am by no means, any longer in my twenties. (god forbid ;) ) he he!
Auditions were also being conducted for singers, but I sing terrible, so I could forget about that, again, oh well.

I did try my best, really. even if the judges did not like me, I was not too impressed by them either, to say the least!

Oh my, that just brought tears to my eyes. That is so sweet.
I am so glad that your little boy was able to have those experiences.
:wizard: Just Magical.

Unfortunately that sounds like a typical audition panel. Sometimes the "judges" are just jerks but other times they're like that to see how you do under pressure and without energy to feed off of. It's not fun being the one trying to impress unimpressed people though, at least you did it and have that experience under your belt.

This isn't the first I've heard about these face auditions, and it doesn't really sound like a fun experience to go through. It would be nice to know what they're looking for before hand so people aren't wasting their time and that of the recruiters. Oh well.

What is "good looking" to some peple isn't always good looking to other. Attractiveness is relative.

Your post confuses me. What do you mean by "friend of" Mickey, Minnie, Chip, Dale, etc.?

Friend of Mickey is the person who dresses up in a Mickey costume, etc. Just Disney terminology ;)

Resume doesn't matter AT ALL. They don't even look at it until the final round and by then you're either gonna make it or break it based on talent. I have a GREAT musical theater resume but it was of no use because they don't even ask you your name let alone what you've done before. FACE IS MAJOR for FACE characters. In fact, it's really the ONLY thing for the entire 1st round.

This is interesting, as one of my DD's friends from HS has played Cinderella at DL. Yes she is pretty, and she also has the very sweet voice. She had to leave for awhile to compete in the Miss Califonia Pageant. So you can imagine she is well versed in speaking, and being with people. From what I understand, she will be going back again, and gets to play Cinderella again in the the Electrical parade.

You have made me very curious as to what she went through, to get to that stage. It would be fun to ask her some questions. popcorn::

They know who you are. You had to submit an application and resume to be there. They screen you on that before they even let you into the audition. It's a very subtle process, but they know. ;) We also had a "friend of Snow White" in our circle of friends.
