Disneyland expands security checkpoint to include Downtown Disney

As of now, there are no check points at Disney Springs

I get that people want to feel safe at Disney World, but come on, there is such a thing as too much. However, I see this as a HUGE undertaking for Disney as there are so many access points to Disney Springs. There are the water launches, the parking lots, and the buses

While there are no security checkpoints at DS, there are a lot of CMs at the Lime and Orange garages as well as the access points into the various parts of DS. Also, with the remodel of DD into DS, access into the shopping area has become more restricted. If you remember the background stories about the Pulse shooter, he had looked at DS as a possible target. He crossed off DS from his hit list, because there was too much security. IMHO, there were too many CMs who could spot automatic weapon in his possession, as he entered.

The two new Smart Garages - Lime and Orange (and they're building a third Smart Garage) have sensors over each parking spot. A green light goes on, if no car is parked there. There are overhead sensors and signs on each row and level, showing how many open spaces are available. If those parking sensors also double as security cameras, then potential problems can be seen quicker.

It's silly...you want to search shopping bags full of swag? I think it's all an elaborate headfake...but nothing new there.

Actually, this will probably reduce the number of shopping bags they look through. With Downtown Disney not included in the bag check area you would have to pass back through the secure area to get to the buses on the opposite side. It was kind of annoying.

Truly in DS there are way to many entry points to put metal detectors at all of them. The only way to logically put in metal detectors in would to be to close a large number of entry points and only make a select few ports of entry available. If you do not do this the cost of staffing and price to put in the metal detectors would be down right outrageous. This makes it almost an impossibility that we will ever see metal detectors at DS.
