Disneyland Divas working out, getting healthy, and looking fine in '09!!

Hi!
I had about 1450 calories today and burned 505 calories at the gym.

I completed 4.75 miles, 1.75 of those on the treadmill! I'm getting better and better! I'm very tired right now and I'll definitely be feeling it in the morning.

My goal this week is to exercise 5 days, so far I'm doing good 2/5!

Oh, wish me good luck girls, I have a job interview tomorrow morning.

Good night!

Come on beth, you've done SO well this far JUST KEEP SWIMMING!

Cristabel--I was just thinking to myself today that would make a great quote of the day. Really! Isn't that funny? Great minds think alike. I guess we all need to JUST KEEP SWIMMING!

Beth--Have you tried that weight watcher formula? I wonder how many points weight watchers you would have a day? Maybe you are eating too few calories?

Grumpyvet--WELCOME! :cheer2: Just keep swimming! :cheer2:

2_eagle_mon: Welcome Back! And I'm so sorry to hear about your bunny. :sad1:

I can't sleep tonight...too many details of who to get to school by when before what going through my head. But reading this board has made me sleepy -- in the best sort of way! Distracted me from all the minutia I needn't worry about. Way past time for bed now...

Don't you dare give up Beth! Remember, your weight fluctuates during the day! You've been doing a great job, so don't you throw in that towel. We all have our ups and downs, but we should never give up!
I know deep down you are right. And I'm not giving up, it's just been really frustrating lately. I've been at this since the first week of May and was doing pretty good. Then lately it just seems to have come to a stand still and I'm trying to figure out what to do next. :confused3

But I know the only way to guarantee not to lose anything is to quit so I won't do that. :)

Even though there are times when the idea sounds pretty appealing!! LOL

Hey everyone!! I need to lose at least 25 lbs AGAIN!!! I fell off the exercise band wagon, got a bit menapausey and piled on the pounds.

Go figure. So, I will check in on Thursday with my report of swimming a minimum of 1.5 miles!!!! I hope!!:)

Amy
Hey Amy!!!! Glad to see you here. This is a great group of ladies who's been keeping my butt in gear and supporting me to no end. So be prepared because they will make sure you are swimming lap after lap after lap again. ;)

Welcome and can't wait to hear on Thursday how you did!!!!! :yay: :cheer2:

Hi all,

I can't believe how long it's been since I've posted here. I just spent the last 45 minutes trying to get caught up with everything. It has been a crazy couple of weeks (maybe more like a month?). I've been stressed at work and when I'm stressed I munch. I had been doing pretty well before but gained 2.2 lbs in one week. :sad2: I got back on track and at my weigh in today was down 1.2 :). I also went back to the gym tonight and did 30 minutes on the treadmill.

I love this idea. I've been stuck going up and down on the same 5 lbs for about a year. Maybe I need to change my goals. Instead of the pounds lost, I'll track the number of miles I do at the gym. I just checked Google and it is 398 miles from my house to Disneyland. If I start logging my mileage I can "walk my way to fitness".

:sad1: As I was typing the above, my DS came in and told me his 8yr old rabbit just passed away. He's not been doing well the last couple of days and I was afraid it was going to happen, but still its going to be hard for him. He's 21 but has Aspergers (a high functioning form of autism) and his bunny has been his buddy. He has a really hard time communicating his feelings and Nibbles was always someone he could "talk" to. Its going to be a rough couple of weeks as we deal with this. I know some people don't understand how people can get so emotional about a pet. But dang it I'm going to miss that bunny.

I'll try and be better about checking in and logging my miles.

J
Hey, glad you made it back to us. :) And good for you on getting back into the gym and the walking your way to fitness goal. That is a great idea to chart the miles to Disneyland. :thumbsup2

I am so sorry about your son's rabbit. :(

Don't feel discouraged Beth! How long have you kept your calorie count between 1200-1300? My mom says that if you have been doing it for too long your body has adjusted, she suggest going to 1500 and upping your workout for a bit (a couple of weeks) to shake up your body a bit.

I haven't lost in 2 weeks, so I'm also feeling a bit blue but I've decided that you can't "see" the weight come off, but you can see your body changing. Like just the other day I noticed by butt is getting smaller:woohoo: and that is something I am VERY happy about.

OH another thing, try to add in strength training. The more muscle you build, the faster your body burns fat!

Come on beth, you've done SO well this far JUST KEEP SWIMMING!
I've had my calories at that for about 3 or so months now. Some days higher and some day lower, but I try to keep around 1200.
Maybe your mom is right. I didn't really think you could hit a plateau this early on, but who knows. There is so much conflicting info out there on health that even when I try to read up on it, I end up more confused. :rotfl:

Have you measured yourself? I bought a tape measure and I'm going to take some measurements so at least I can track if I am losing inches even if the scale isn't budging.

According to the WW thing January posted I should be eating 29 points but I don't really know how that translates into calories.

Sorry you had a rough time sleeping. I hate it when your brain won't turn off.

I love the quote of the day!

JUST KEEP SWIMMING!!!

I hope everyone has a good day. It's Hump Day! Keep up the great work!

And I thought I'd leave a snack in case anyone stops by. (I love the idea of the pumpkin to hold the dip!) Enjoy! And I'll see ya later. :)

Here's the equation if you want to translate it:

points=(calories/50)+(fat grams/12)-(min{r,4}/5)

Yeah, right...:headache:

I looked on eBay and saw they had a weight watcher starter kit for a current bid of $7. Might be a good investment so you can have a guide on points...if you're interested.

I also found this calorie calculator to determine how many calories you should eat to lose weight
http://www.healthyweightforum.org/eng/calculators/calories-required/

I'd do a little investigating to see if perhaps you need a couple hundred more calories to kick that metabolism into gear. I'm no expert on this, but it's a possibility.

Keep on swimming!!

:rotfl2:

It didn't even occur to me to look on ebay! Thanks for that thought. I never buy stuff from there so I always forget about it.

And thanks for that link too. I'm going to see what it tells me. Maybe I am not really eating enough. :confused3

OK, I'm changing my goal again. I want to be in the 100s by March, even if it's 199 lbs. So that means 10 lbs by March! If I can't achieve that, then I give up.

I figure that's realistic for me, because Halloween is next month, Thanksgiving is in November, Christmas is December, my birthday is in January and then there's Valentine's Day in February. I have no willpower, and that's 4 months of yummy temptations!

Of course if I happen to lose more, I wont complain. :upsidedow

It's definitely possible to hit a plateau at 3 months!

And no I haven't measured myself. I'm upset with myself that I didn't think of it right when I started so I now I don't see the point of it. I do feel it in clothes, I fit into my size 20s now (which is like one pair of pants:rolleyes:) and I'm hurrying to get to size 18 because I have tons of clothes there.

So, I've made an important decision.

In addition to the Nuts for Mutts 5k on October 19th, I've decided to do the 5k run/walk for The City of Santa Clarita Marathon (my city!) on November 2nd, which is also my 20th birthday. What a better way to celebrate another year of life than by living! I'm so excited!

For training, I'll be walking outside and running at the gym because I have bad knees and don't want to hurt myself. The majority of the marathon is on trails, which is good because pounding on concrete hurts!

Wish me luck, girls!

It gets better, I'm hoping we'll be home, showered and dressed by 9:30am and I want to go to....where else?...DISNEYLAND. Yeah, we'll be pretty tuckered out but I want to have my birthday breakfast in Disneyland!

I know what you mean.
In October it's my birthday, our Disneyland trip and Halloween.
In November I have my DD's b-day plus Thanksgiving.
In December it's my DS's b-day plus Christmas.
In January it's my DH's birthday.

I am most worried about October. I know we'll be splurging for my birthday. And of course I refuse to worry about calories when I am on vacation. And Halloween with four kids means TONS of candy around. :scared1:

Good luck! That's awesome. Wow, what a great way to spend your b-day!! But are you really only going to be 20?!?!?!?! Damn, you're just a baby. LOL

Yes, I'm still a wittle baby. :lmao:
I'm hoping to celebrate my 21st birthday in WDW (preferably Epcot;)) JK but I am looking forward to "drinking around the world".

Woo Hoo! I've made it back to the boards two days in a row!

After a rough night we are all doing much better today. I actually did really well today at work. Mostly because I was in so many meetings that I didn't have a chance to snack. I've finally become one of those people that carry around a bottle of water and actually drink it!

Didn't make it to the gym today, but plan on going tomorrow.

Cristabel - I'm in awe that you've decided to take on two 5k run/walks! I hope that I can get to that point some day. NO way could I do a run (really bad knees and ankles), but its a good goal to work towards and you've picked a really great causes to support. BTW, how did the interview go?

MommaU4 - Don't give up. I speak from experience. This is the second time that I've dropped 50lbs with WW and I hit this wall. Last time I gave up and low and behold I had to start all over again. Measuring yourself is a good idea. Have you saved any of your "fat" clothes? I got rid of everything but one pair of jeans. When I'm getting ready to throw in the towel and give up I put them back on to really SEE how far I've come. I REALLY don't want to go back there. Even if you stay on this plateau you haven't gone backwards. I just started to read your October PTR. I love all of your fall pictures. I'm sorry we didn't plan our girls trip later in the month to be able to see all the DL fall decorations. I guess I'll just have to live vicarously through your photos and TR.

Wendylady36 - Don't give up! I too want to reach the elusive 100s. I'm hoping for much earlier than March. If I can ever get past 205 I'd be thrilled beyond belief.

Anyone have some good suggestions for the best food choices at DL? I'm only a week away and I'm starting to worry. The girls that I'm going with are planning on going all out on the food. When I'm with the family I can pretty much handle the cravings (normally I just take one bite of their pastry/dessert/fries) while I have a salad and I'm good, but I can't see myself doing that next week. The only meal that we have planned is lunch at the French Market (so they can get Monte Cristo Sandwiches). HELP!

This is a great question! I'd LOVE to get some tips on healthy eating at Disneyland. Here's some ideas from me.

Some healthy food options in Disneyland:
-Enlightened (sugar free) Jamba Juice at Downtown Disney
-Salads with dressing on the side (and dip your fork in the dressing before you eat, rather than putting dressing on the salad)
-Pineapple spears in Adventureland
-Fresh Fruit on Main Street
-Frozen apple juice drink in DCA (I got one in Bugs Land)
-Yogurt, cereal, fruit at Whitewater Snacks
-Fruit plate (but stay away from the muffins) for breakfast in Tomorrowland
-Poached eggs on toast (without butter) at many sit down and order breakfast places
-Oatmeal with fresh fruit at many sit down breakfast places
-Subway sandwich on Harbor

Tips:
-Bring healthy snacks with you to eat between meals
-Plan your meals (use allears.net for menus)

Treats that aren't all that bad:
-Cotton candy
-Dole Whip (as far as I can figure, but someone may prove me wrong here)

Question:
What about those turkey legs? Are those good or bad?

And remember you'll be doing a ton of walking and definitely earning a treat or two! It's Disneyland after all!

Ok, tonight's run went pretty well.
I managed to complete 1.88 miles in 30 minutes, almost 15 minutes a mile. I need to get to at least 14 minute miles for the 5k in November. It's a run/walk and I get a medal at the end. In total (3 miles) I burned 500 calories.

I would have loved to have placed (def. 3rd) but that would mean I would need to run 7 minute miles. Yeah, like that's going to happen in two months:rolleyes: I'm just glad to be doing this and I don't want to come in last. That would be embarrassing. But I doubt I would because they have 60 year old women who walk the whole course (yeah, that's inspiring:lmao:)

Today I ate within the range 1340 - 1410. Pretty good

:sad1: I give up. I don't know what I am doing wrong. The scale is going the wrong way. Yesterday I was 230 and now I'm 231!!! WTH??
I even walked extra today. And I drank my water. Probably not enough water, but more then I had been. I've been keeping my calories between 1200 and 1300.
I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I'm really, really trying to stay positive and upbeat because I hate to be a downer, but it's hard and right now I really am just ready to throw in the towel.  :sad2: :guilty:

I feel the same this week, but you know what? It is like fighting our inner deamon. This week I have been so good but the scale says I have gained...I think it is a test. Eventually we will get down to our goal weight and when we are there we are going to have to work on maintaining. If we can't fight our way past a week where the scale is possesed even though we are doing things "right" then we are going to be in big trouble in the long run. If we fight past this eventually the scale will figure out that we are not playing around and it will stop being possesed and do what it is supposed to do...show our weight going down! Also, I heard an idea to shake things up would be to one day have 1200 then the next day to 1400 then the next day do 1200 then 1300 then 1200 then 1500. You would still not exceed 1300 a day overall, you are just redistributing 100 calories here and there and shaking up your body a bit so it doesn't get "used" to things. I think I may try this next week!

Sarah

I like the idea of "walking" to disneyland...I think it would be well over 1000 miles for me though...that might take a while!
