So, how long will it be before Disneyland closes due to the unionization of its workforce?
Seems like their union is calling for a strike every other year.:confused3

Come to an agreement and then a couple of years later you don't like that deal so you strike again.

There are a lot of different unions in place in Disneyland. At any given time at least one of the unions contract will have expired or will be expiring soon. As soon as you put out that fire another one flares up. Union negotiations are a never ending process over there!

In that it has never happened I would say, uhhh, never.

I am always suspicious of screen names with a low number of posts who come around and post things like this. I have never seen Mickey28 on this forum before. My first guess is this person is looking to make trouble and not for honest dialog.

On the off chance that this person is asking for honest dialog, then they would have to clarify what part of the resort would close. The parks or the hotels. And they would have to answer the question "What do you mean by unionization?"

From what I've read on mouseplanet, there's really no strike happening. It's people...some actual employees, some...not so much...who might picket, or pretend to fast while sitting in tents, but it's not a *strike*. No one is leaving the rooms uncleaned (hotel union...union hasn't really sat down to negotiate ANYTHING with disney despite disney wanting to talk with them), no one is not working...any picketing seems to be getting done in their off time, if it's being done by employees at all.

I hope it closes soon, 400 plus for my annual pass is killing me........popcorn::

j/k y'all

really?:rolleyes1 if you have a problem with DL u should find a different board. if it is honest conversation u are making, well dl will never close no matter what issues they have.

even if the entire park goes on strike, a lot of CM most likely wont do it because they need their jobs...

They can hire me :) I won't complain and will be super happy just to walk onto the property every day

If the OP is in fact trying to stir up trouble then they are glad each time this thread gets bumped because more people see it. Some folks who do this post something negative and provocative and then walk away while it gets hundreds of hotly contested responses keeping it on page 1 for weeks. Pro-union. Anti-union. Pro-Disney. Anti-Disney. Level-headed. Hot-headed. Current employees. Former employees. Wannabe employees. And on and on.

I am not criticizing any of the responders so far. But if you have not seen the long heated threads that are not at all constructive and started by trouble-makers, then I am just giving you a heads up.

I was reluctant even to make this post because I knew I would bump this again. Unless this thread takes on an honest and constructive direction from the OP I personally will not bump it again. I hope no one else does either. :cool2:

The OP joined in '06, and from just a quick and random perusal of the pages of their posts, it all seems fine.

This stuff is in the news right now (and there's a post on the CB too, of what someone saw at GCH involving union people), it's normal to talk about it.

The conversations on mouseplanet have been good, I believe that lots of people have gotten really good information, because it is talked about. If it's NOT discussed, then people just believe the soundbites. If people see people apparently striking, they think there's a strike. A strike is different from a protest, and employees are different from non employees walking with signs.

It's GOOD to talk about this, because more truth comes out that way, and fewer people believe the soundbite nonsense or what they believe about strikes vs what's going on at the disneyland hotels.

There were pickets up when we were there in August. Maybe 4-6 people at times. They never said a word to us and we to them. Never was a problem.

Maybe on the community board section of the dis, but not so much here. We ae pretty non confrontational here and usually posts like this just go away.

OP here,
No, I was not trying to stir up trouble, but I knew the topic would get people talking. Sorry, I was away for so long I almost forgot about the thread. I usually post on the WDW board because that is where my family and I visit. However, I do read Mouseplanet and I always read the DL updates because I am always curious about what's going on at all the Disney parks. So I figured I would post on here to hear what people more involved with DL thought about the situation currently going on at DL.
My post count is low Hyrdoguy because I generally don't have a lot of questions about WDW, but I am always on the boards looking at the pics people posts and I get involved in some conversations when I feel like I have good input. I was hoping for a serious discussion about the situation currently happening. My family and I hope to visit DL one day, but will probably wait until out youngest child is a bit older.
Back to the original topic though how does Disney seem to handle dealing with the SIE unions. It just seems to come up a bit more often with DL than at WDW. Also hope that the reimagineering of DCA is a success for the resort and the company as a whole. Thanks for your input and again did not mean to ruffle feathers.

Having worked in a union shop and having family
members currently working in union shops I see the unions getting weaker and the "company" getting stronger. We have striked been locked out and the company is still there. The union workers are still there but just with less. I doubt Disneyland is going anywhere people need jobs they will buckle.

I too have observed this condition taking place over the years. It is very important as a result for Unions to get or receive as much bite back as possbile. For it is not just important to have teeth, but to have an awesome bite as well. Otherwise, unions will become even less efficient for the worker. And that is what most of us are, workers.

In answer to the original question:

NEVER!........

shall Disneyland close forever.

Matter of fact the park is normally open 365 days a year. If there is an earthquake, it might have to close for a short duration. But then it's doors will re-open for business. Thank you... :wizard:
