I follow Disneyland on Twitter. I just saw an update that said they are closing the parks early tonight because of weather.

I've never heard of them closing early because of weather and was wondering if anyone knew more about this?

Thanks.

I would very highly doubt it. It's not raining badly and they didn't close during the torrential downpours a couple weeks ago.

We're here now and this is how our day went. 9:00 a.m park opening. Went directly to PP (less than 5 minutes), then to Mr. Toad (less than 5 minutes), Snow White (walk on), and Pinnochio (walk on). (alice, and tea cups closed due to rain (didn't feel like riding Dumbo and Story books in the rain). Went over to Small World (another walk on). Went to Nemo (had to wait for a sub to unload then we loaded, so maybe 5-8 minutes?).

Went and did Space (about 8 minutes to get through cue), Buzz (about 5 minutes). Didn't feel like doing Star Tours or Astro orbiter. I believe we were done with all of that by about 10:30 ish.

Went and got Indy fp's (not needed we found out later) then went over to DCA, had lunch, no wait for Soarin, did Turtle Talk, Monsters Inc and walked around the shops some. (we're doing DCA tomorrow and didn't want to do too much today).

Went back to DL, did JC, Indy (twice, walk through the 1/4 mile cue but walk on once you got to through it), Pirates, and Haunted Mansion. We skipped Splash because we don't like to do that in cold weather (we come every month or so from Colorado, so something missed isn't a big deal).

It started raining harder, so we decided to stop at the bakery, grab a cookie and hot chocolate to split and head back to the room. All this accomplished by about 3:30 at the latest (I think we got back to the room about then, we're at Dessert Inn).

Right now it's POURING. It had started to get worse about the time we left with the wind picking up, but now it's just really pouring.

I didn't hear anything about park closure as we left so early, but, it wouldn't surprise me with the crowd level and amount of rain. It was absolutely DEAD at that park. We love it like that though. The lack of strollers alone makes the walkways easier to manage.

ALOT of construction going on. If you're coming soon, be prepared for that. Rivers of America is blocked, Tomorrow Land Terrace is closed, and Hollywood Blvd has blockades down the whole center, so you must break off to one side or the other to narrow passages to get through that area.

For smokers who have not been in a while (these have changed since December when we were here), the smoking area under the monorail tracks near small world has moved back to where it was before Nemo was finished. The Tom Sawyer area has moved next to the Haunted Mansion near the fountain, near where you would enter to get a FP when the machines are open.

If anyone has any questions, let me know.

p.s. If you are coming this weekend, dress WARM

I'm not surprised. They close three hours early two weeks ago today and two hours early the day before that.

I live within an hour of Disneyland and it is POURING as of about an hour ago. Thunder, lightning, POURING!

If it is raining just as hard at DL, yeah, they will close early. Safety, low attendance, not able to offer the expected experience.

It does not happen "often," but neither does absolute pouring rain.

So I guess this is what I have to look forward to in the next few hours. I also live about an hour from DL but I guess in the oposite direction because we've had just very light rain on and off today - nothing heavy - yet!

I was surprised at this news since it's not raining hard here but i guess it must be getting bad over there.

Has it slowed down at your house Disney Dreams?

I just walked outside the hotel room and now it's down to a drizzle at best. I wish it would decide what it wanted to do so I know whether to get in my pajamas and have a glass of wine or head back to the parks, haha.

It's amazing how fast it goes from pouring for 2-3 hours to barely needing a rain jacket.

It has stopped. I'm not sure when it ended as i turned some music on pretty loud to drown out the thunder.

As for it deciding what it's going to do, I think it's supposed to rain on and off today and tomorrow.

PJs and a glass of wine sounds good. Rainy day hint if it rains tomorrow: Animation Academy and Innoventions. :)

Oh we'll definitely do AA. We love Turtle Talk and try to find out when they are drawing characters we haven't done yet.

Aladdin is also playing all weekend, so that's another hour or so out of the ick :thumbsup2

The votes are in, wine and pajamas it is, haha

PJs and wine - hehe

nice choice since (here anyway) it's raining again.

It has been pouring in the "torrential" category at some points tonight. And they DID close early a few weeks ago when it was raining really badly.

That's what I was thinking. I mean, I've been there during downpours before. So I don't get it.
There's downpours and then there's rain to the point where it creates flooding. And also, lightning - which is a safety issue.

It's just so funny because gets way worse weather and I don't think they close for it. So weird.

We aren't heading out there anytime soon. Maybe this Fall though.

hoping for low crowds tomorrow... we'll be in around 6pm (I hope!) CAN'T WAIT!!!

Thanks for the update had2stoplurking!

Be safe on your trip in! Hope you have a lovely, low crowd weekend. I see your family picture is in your avatar, so if I see you, I'll be sure to say hello.

Have a great trip!

We were there yesterday. We got ther at about noon-ish. I'm not familiar with their parking procedures (or if this matters) but we parked on the Mickey level about two rows from the escalator. That is the lowest level and the closest we've ever gotten when arriving this late. The lines were super light. It was a steady drizzle for most of the day. They were doing their best at trying to keep the "puddles" from forming. (they actually use a large squeegie...it was kind of funny to watch). It was around 3 pm when we first heard the annoucement that they were closing early. We were a bit suprised, but I'm not sure if I could have lasted in that weather until 11.

After a really rainy trip one year, we now bring rain coats and rain pants with us during the wet season, just in case. On that wet trip, we saw other people in them and were so jealous. We bought some for ourselves as soon as we got home. :)

I think walking around in wet jeans is just an awful feeling.

We were at DL during the week of rain Jan 17 to 23. They closed Disneyland early 4 of the 5 week days. The rain was crazy and there were very few people at the park. Most of the rides were still open and we had absolutely no line ups. Actually went to Knotts Berry and they closed it after 2 hours ( no refund). Must have been only 50 people in the whole park.

NOt to mention, Disneyland floods pretty badly. There are like pools everywhere you walk!!!

I wonder if part of the reason they close is because it's expensive to staff everyone in the park when there are very few guests.

Well, at some point you (as a business person) need to look at: Are there enough people at the Parks to make the expense of remaining open worthwhile. This includes paying Cast Members, running electricity to operate rides, food, stores, etc......
